I definitely enjoy this. Would keep this on hand as a Canadian option in my cabinet, especially when I want something sweet and something that doesn't quite longer. Just easy to drink
Ralfy, you shouldn't be surprised about your welcome. You are a legend in such a very short time. All of @whiskylassie's friends were jealous to see the picture of you and her sharing a dram.
Copper pot is my favourite product they make. Prefer it to the barrel select and the more expensive Double barrel reserve (they've been packing 50ml bottles of the double barrel with the cheaper varieties at the LCBO as a promotion). Any rye / Canadian whiskey fan should try this out... It's not much more expensive than the barrel select but it's much more complex. Worth the money!
Hi Ralfy - I enjoy your reviews. A couple of years ago, I picked up 40 creek and liked it. Glad you reviewed it. A friend of mine who likes Rye, did not like 40 creek at all. Strange, but I guess everyone has their own taste. Thanks again, - Paul in Ontario
Just cracked open a bottle of this on the merit of your review. I'm no experienced whisky drinker, however at this price point, this is by far the most interesting whisky I have tasted. It does indeed have a complexity and depth to its flavour. Give it some time to air out in the glass, and it goes down quite smooth. Thumbs up!
hey ralphy, they've justed renamed the winery to Forty Creek Distillery (and sold the wine part of the business), so they are forty creek distillery now indeed :)
Ralfy, why didn't you get a bottle of 'Lot No. 40' instead? You would have been amazed. 39$ and most likely the best canadian whisky we have. I hope you tried it.
I wonder if there might be a re-review of this in store someday? I bought some recently and it tastes very much like a dessert whisky, but I don't get the impression that it's too young.
Hi Ralfy, any advice on these rums: Havana Club 7yo/Pyrat XO Reserve/Ron Zacapa 23.. I have them available for about the same price, but the reviews i found on the web are a bit contradicting. Love your videos btw, keep up the great work!
Hi Ralfy, I have noticed that some whisky bottles are easier to pour a glass than others. For example it is impossible for me to pour a glass of caol ila without a drop running down the neck of the bottle. I think this is a minor design problem ( a very small thing indeed) but you haven't mentioned it so maybe you have mastered even the most trickiest bottles!
Hi Ralfy Have you tried the Collingwood whisky also situated in Ontario but a liitle drive north. I would like to get your take on it. I live minutes away from the distillery. Thanks get well Ralfy
I couldn't find the Copper Pot expression, but the Barrel Select was easy to find, and not expensive @ $19.00. What I found most impressive about 40 Creek is the amount of flavor and the depth of complexity. The BS stands shoulder to shoulder with the Single Malts in my collection. Highly recommended
haha - I'm actually drinking one right now. Noticeably Canadian but with a strange twist. To me it seems sweet on the nose, semi sweet to dry in the mouth and sour in the finish. I'm still trying to figure out what these flavors are. First time with a new bottle. This is going to take some time. Very different.
Ralfy, really like your reviews. I recently tried this Whisky myself. I love the flavor (Very smooth for its age) but I find I get a headache from even a very small amounts(1oz over ice). I suspect maybe because it is so young and the angels share has not taken care of the heads in the product. I do not have this issue with other Canadian Whisky. I recently purchased a bottle of Gibsons Finest Rare and its very nice... and no headache (Maybe not as complex of a whisky). If it was not for the headache I would drink this Forty Creek Copper Pot...
Total Wine and More is carrying this - at least in Albuquerque NM. $16 for the 750ml. Definitely agree with Ralfy, the extra bit if Rye makes for a nice sipping whiskey, and a really good bargain as compared to Single Malt Scotch.
Canada...a very conservative Country with little/no innovation...sound familiar Ralfy?? Wherever you are mate, whatever industry... old habits always die hard. good solidstuff mate...thnx for that! Peace
in 2014 I believe here in Alberta they made the provinces first single malt whisky and barrels are currently aging...look forward to the release when they are 10 yrs old and more...all field to bottle nothing imported should be an interesting whisky for sure....Check it out Eau Claire distillery they even state ON the bottle non chill filtered no colouring added
Copper Pot is an excellent blend that carries the distinct Forty Creek spicy flavour prominently (the other Forty Creek expressions also carry this note). Yes, it is young and yes is is a touch rough due to age, but it is very flavourful and complex and well worth your money. Skip the Barrel Select and give this one a try. Also, don't forget the Double Barrel, or the new Heart of Gold either - they are top notch as well.
Heck no. As far as I know, they've said they're going to keep the distillery as is pretty much. There'll just be a wider distribution, which is awesome for the folks outside of Canada. They can finally enjoy what we've been drinking for a while now :)
That's what they said about Wild Turkey. Giant new distillery with apparently identical column and pot still combo. The fill strength went from 53 to 57 percent though.😝 I'm not looking forward to the change.
I admire you commitment to do the reviews come Hell or high water, Ralfy...but rest up until you are well and healthy before soldiering on. When you're not 100% your normal jovial nature and unbridled enthusiasm for whisky is noticeably absent.
Ralfy, hey. bravestuff maltmate. but eez in mate...slow it sum! get wel n enjoy th malt moments ...as th spirit allows! Its all n th name of luv! cheers
So that extra dollop of rye...in the 40Crk CopperPot didnt quite float your boat as much as the current formulation of Barrel Select ?! ...hmmm. so much for youth then. While some may sparkle today, tomorrow will tell the entire tale Ralfy...guaranteed!! Peace
Expectation and demand drives innovation. In N. America, big money backs terrible tasting whiskey. Perhaps it's a holdover from Prohibition, when cocktails emerged as the way to drink. At any rate, in N. America there is no knowledge of any criteria to judge whiskey except for a quality of smoothness. It's very parochial. There can't be a big enough demand for single malt whisky until people have tried it. With no demand, big money goes for the bad tasting stuff.
Wiser's Legacy, Red Letter or Lot 40 would have been better buys at the time as they are truly world class Whiskies. Ralphy could also have picked up FC Portwood Reserve, Confederation Oak batch B and Heart of Gold while he was at the distillery. Copper Pot is fine as a bottom shelf sipper but not in the league of the high end products available at the time of his visit. However I do understand these are are much more expensive.
Let's face it, Canadian Whiskey is garbage. For the price and comparison there is always something better on the shelf, and even 20-25 year old offerings are over priced and pretentious attempts at trying to compete with a good Irish Whiskey or Scotch. This felt like a pity review based on just having attended a Canadian event, haha. Always informative but still a review that doesn't incline me to purchase the product.
this exactly, I had this and thought it was crap. Canadian whisky usually uses all the crapped out casks that are no longer fit for proper whisky maturation.
I definitely enjoy this. Would keep this on hand as a Canadian option in my cabinet, especially when I want something sweet and something that doesn't quite longer. Just easy to drink

You should take a picture of your whole collection. That must be quite impressive !
If you can please review "Lot 40". Best Canadian whiskey in my opinion.

This replaced Crown Royal as my regular whisky. Dabbling in scotch these days a bit but Copper Pot is an old friend.
I won't watch this video but i came here to thumbs up because u sir are awesome.
Thanks Ralfy! Visiting Toronto and just picked up a bottle. Keep on informing us, you are a wonderful source of information.
Ralfy, why didn't you get a bottle of 'Lot No. 40' instead? You would have been amazed. 39$ and most likely the best canadian whisky we have. I hope you tried it.
the lot 40 is a lot better than this, but a proper scotch is miles ahead.
Forty Creek now available at Bev Mo probably throughout the US. Drinking it now. Very nice.
I wonder if there might be a re-review of this in store someday? I bought some recently and it tastes very much like a dessert whisky, but I don't get the impression that it's too young.

Ralfy, have you tried Alberta Premium Dark Horse? I wonder what you'd think of it...It's bottled at 45% btw

At first glance when the video started I thought the bottle said "Forty Creek Coffee Pot Whisky"
Hi Ralfy
Have you tried the Collingwood whisky also situated in Ontario but a liitle drive north. I would like to get your take on it. I live minutes away from the distillery. Thanks get well Ralfy
hey ralfy have you ever had anything from the Glenora distillery in Cape Breton Nova Scotia
The longer Copper Pot is on the shelf, the better it gets.
Ralfy,
You rated the Forty Creek Barrel Select an 89/100. Do you still feel it's 6 points better than the Copper Pot?
Came here to comment the same thing, was surprised he rated the cheaper version so much higher.

Do I see an empty bottle of Orval there in the left back?
That's magical Mr. Mistoffelees
Ralfy, really like your reviews.

good solidstuff mate...thnx for that!

love this whisky. good review.
what a trooper you are...
This blends well with CRNHR and a bit of Islay(maybe 10%).
I swear they put sherry in this, its so sweet and syrupy
in 2014 I believe here in Alberta they made the provinces first single malt whisky and barrels are currently aging...look forward to the release when they are 10 yrs old and more...all field to bottle nothing imported should be an interesting whisky for sure....Check it out Eau Claire distillery they even state ON the bottle non chill filtered no colouring added

Very strange seeing 40 Creek being reviewed. What's next? Black Velvet?
Ha! I see a bottle of Odell Brewing Company IPA from Fort Collins, CO
Ralfy has great taste in beer!
You're a Celebrity now Ralphy! :D Get used to it! ;)
Campari bought Forty Creek Distillery. Shame ain't it?

Haha indeed it is!
Its so awesome to be able to look up any whiskey on ralfydotcom and watch
the nose on this is not that good but the flavor is amazing.
I like your videos however your missing 2 of Canada's most popular whiskys "Gibson's" and "crown royal"
Wiser's Legacy, Red Letter or Lot 40 would have been better buys at the time as they are truly world class Whiskies. Great story about the Distillery. Didn’t care for this one though.
I see that this is an old video. But christ I just tried a bottle. It is hot trash! Worst Canadian whiskey I have ever had.
The Barrel select is the cheap shit whiskey that everybody drinks here

boy you are wrong. canadian whisky is a fine whisky.
Canadians make the best Rye whisky in the world bar none
I don't know about "best in the world" but a bottle of Lot 40 Rye says not all Canadian whiskey is garbage :-)
this exactly, I had this and thought it was crap. Canadian whisky usually uses all the crapped out casks that are no longer fit for proper whisky maturation.
