Morning Vanessa: You've come up with some great ideas in how to cope when your narrowboat is frozen. I loved how the geese were sleeping atop the frozen canal while another bird took advantage to access the wall at waterline in the locks for a tasty treat. Your white moth for the other side of Alice Grace sounds like it will go well with the daisy on the other side. It was Napoleon the the third, the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte who was exiled to Leamington after his disastrous war with Prussia in 1870 in which Prussia incorporated Alsace Lorraine into its empire. What a beautiful story about the old man feeding the birds made me think of my crows on the golf course I finally fond a bunch of them just before the snow came so I gave them my crackers that I had been saving. I was touched by the footage of the man who feeds the birds and it reminded me of when my mum used to supervise me in the kitchen mixing seeds and nuts then fat, leaving it to set and the joy I felt when we hung the winter cakes out for the birds. Well now, it is lovely to know that I have made it to the big screen! It really is so very different having ice around the boat and not being able to cruise. We were lucky to be moored within walking distance of the service points as it took me by surprise. It has only frozen like that after Christmas for us before. So it's true! I remember another canal boat vlogger saying that the ducks use a form of mind control to get canal boaters to feed them.....clever ducks!

Bought my boat,collected it 19th December 2022 coldest day of the year frozen in for three days,went in lit a fire made a brew and settled down for the duration 😀
I can't get water and i haven't had a shower for the past week. Just strip washing. The neighbours don't like it and said i should do it inside. Ha ha ha I absolutely love it Mrs mindful. We soon purchased Aqua rolls and a wastemaster when caravanning, we did a lot of country music festivals, and touring holidays, unfortunately my husband passed away 91/2 yrs ago, but I have lots of memories, including thawing things out on winter trips, 🥶hope you have a Merry Christmas xxx

Seeing your Robin we have one a lot feeding of bird feeder in our garden good to see,but it came in our back door and i found it in bath room it had left calling cards in most bed rooms not so nice but did get it out to the wilds free at last May i also say our local park and nature reserve has been notified as a site of special scientific interest under the wildlife & countryside act 1981. With mind blowing affects to all of our local people that use it.

Excellent video as usual, I would have loved to have kept a journal like yours but can't draw. I did keep sort of a logbook of places I would go but never kept it up. Always look forward to your videos.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I couldn't draw at all when I first started my journal so I followed John Muir Laws on how to sketch what you see. After practising for a long time, I eventually developed my own style of drawing. Don't be put off trying as it is such a wonderful thing to do and I think everyone should have a nature journal. Finding time it the trickiest thing, like you say, and then sticking to it, but if you can, build it in once a week, eventually, the pattern might stick. I hope you give it a go again. Hi Vanessa. You might like to head over to Mossy Earth. They are involved in rewilding in Scotland, Europe and Iceland as well as other parts. The Redwing was re introduced in the UK with birds from Spain back in the 90's. However, the native population of the Iberian Peninsula has collapsed down to 50 breeding pairs. So 90 chicks have been sent to Spain from the UK just this year. Our population is very healthy. They have a YT channel and a vlog covering this in detail.

The ice is about an inch and a half thick and the boat could probably break it in places if we were to move, but it would damage the blacking and could cause damage to other moored boats especially those that are made from fibre glass. A few of the channels I watch are feeding the birds in England which is great. Here is NZ the temp was 32c so I was putting water out. The seasons really change the way we focus on what is happening around us. Lol did Zephyr realise that she was helping to cart firewood =-) Take care as always.

Absolutely beautiful footage and the music you play is so perfect. I always think that winter is a tough time for live-aboards and the wild life too but you seem to have got it sorted with your aqua roller and trolley. Morning Vanessa: You've come up with some great ideas in how to cope when your narrowboat is frozen. I loved how the geese were sleeping atop the frozen canal while another bird took advantage to access the wall at waterline in the locks for a tasty treat. Your white moth for the other side of Alice Grace sounds like it will go well with the daisy on the other side. What a beautiful story about the old man feeding the birds made me think of my crows on the golf course I finally fond a bunch of them just before the snow came so I gave them my crackers that I had been saving. Found myself watching this for a 2nd time and so well worth it. Your robin is the prettiest little critter Vanessa...I think you answered several of my questions I asked you tonight and the loo etc. You cram so much into your videos I totally forget what I have watched before. Seeing your Robin we have one a lot feeding of bird feeder in our garden good to see,but it came in our back door and i found it in bath room it had left calling cards in most bed rooms not so nice but did get it out to the wilds free at last
May i also say our local park and nature reserve has been notified as a site of special scientific interest under the wildlife & countryside act 1981. With mind blowing affects to all of our local people that use it.

Excellent video as usual, I would have loved to have kept a journal like yours but can't draw. I did keep sort of a logbook of places I would go but never kept it up. Always look forward to your videos.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I couldn't draw at all when I first started my journal so I followed John Muir Laws on how to sketch what you see. After practising for a long time, I eventually developed my own style of drawing. Don't be put off trying as it is such a wonderful thing to do and I think everyone should have a nature journal. Finding time it the trickiest thing, like you say, and then sticking to it, but if you can, build it in once a week, eventually, the pattern might stick. I hope you give it a go again. Hi Vanessa. You might like to head over to Mossy Earth. They are involved in rewilding in Scotland, Europe and Iceland as well as other parts. The Redwing was re introduced in the UK with birds from Spain back in the 90's. However, the native population of the Iberian Peninsula has collapsed down to 50 breeding pairs. So 90 chicks have been sent to Spain from the UK just this year. Our population is very healthy. They have a YT channel and a vlog covering this in detail.

When you put the red coat on Zephyr, I thought it was a harness for pulling the cart :-) Too heavy, maybe. It's a wonder how many colors shine through or around the snow. Lovely video.

You have certainly mastered your sketching craft skills with this stunning portrait of wildlife birds perched upon a park bench.frozen over canal .do you know how thick is the ice formation surrounding your narrowboat hull.would it be possible to break the ice in anyway .also do you and mr m .feed the wildlife birds in the depths of winter.stay safe
Hi Anthony, thank you for another lovely comment.🤗 It is so kind of you to take the time to make such a kind review of the vlog. The ice is about an inch and a half thick and the boat could probably break it in places if we were to move, but it would damage the blacking and could cause damage to other moored boats especially those that are made from fibre glass. A few of the channels I watch are feeding the birds in England which is great. Here is NZ the temp was 32c so I was putting water out. The seasons really change the way we focus on what is happening around us. Lol did Zephyr realise that she was helping to cart firewood =-) Take care as always.
