I bought an upgrade gyro for my MST rmx2.0, and after trying to tinker with it I put the stock gyro back in since I am used to it. I would love more videos on drift gyros... gyros feel like their own rabbithole.
I did the same thing.. then I adjusted the camber, and messed with the gyro slowly until I was content. It honestly took couple of tries and give ups.. I gave up on it like 3x.. but then I was like man it's got to work and I dialed it in good enough for my amateur status... Hope you didn't give up on it . I grabbed the futaba gyro
I love building. I bought an HSP chassis (used on offer up) RDR without battery. For $120. Then I bought scale interior parts I converted it to RWD and bought an Amazon HSP chassis (flat) and transferred all the components. Then I bought a yoko gyro. $77 And some rims $26 and tires $16 then I had some plastic lying around I cut them and put them on to help with steering angle. Messed with the placement of all my components. Bought an R34 body painted it and a light kit. $375.98 later it’s exactly how I wanted it to be. I’m getting the hang of drifting it. I’m having lots of fun and I’m becoming addicted to this hobby 😅🎉
I got out of RC years ago. Drifted old Yokomo YZF, TamiaTA04, all before drifting was even a thing. Ran the Sakura in RWD for awhile and now starting up again everyone is RWD and gyros? Must be nice.
I have a rmx 2.0s I built it’s a great platform, I’m in the middle of building a Sakura d5, I’m still pretty new to drifting but it’s fun learning. I be seen a lot if people say the spectrum radios aren’t great for drifting, they usually don’t play well with the gyro’s
Your honesty makes you likeable, I'm in the same boat built a tamiya tto2D awd drift car. Cant steer it much, but also very little wheel time. I now bought the MST 2.0 kit and its close to being finished. Your review of the two cars is very useful info, thanks for sharing.
The biggest difference is 1 cost so much less, because you pay more for quality you can pay a lot to make the rmx2.0 better about the same cost and it will be equivalent but why would ya
I'm not a builder, but have always thought it would be cool to try at some point. Both vehicles look great. There's nothing to he sad about with your custom build if you enjoyed building it. If nothing else, it will be a great platform to really learn about what parts and tunes are good for drifting. You probably learn much more from a "failed" custom build than a pre-built car. At least you have the two to compare against each other so you can tweak your custom build.
I know what you did. You cheaped out on the servo, and possibly your gyro, as well. Also, what worked best for me, was having the steering speed turned down to where it feels more realistic, the steering dual rate turned down to where you're about 75-85% of full lock, and the gyro sensitivity set to about 53-58%, depending on the surface. Try to invest in a sensored motor and esc, like a Hobbywing Quicrun 10BL120, and Quicrun 10.5t. Also, definitely get some Yokomo DR-C, or DR-A tires. They work wonders.
@@10thScaleGarage Oof. Based on personal experience, get the YeahRacing HackSlider gyro. I used to have one, before I sold my drifter. It was an awesome gyro, for the money.
I rather wait don’t buy cheap electronics and rtr. Buy nice kit and electronics the results will be amazing! And it will be more enjoyable. At the end you’ll be ending up buying upgrades to make the kit more drivable ending up costing more. Just my own opinion
@@10thScaleGarage I think it's best to get some baseline good electronics for the chassis at least cuz if u run too cheap on em it's completely undrivable like what you've shown😅 I've been through that and it's hell lol. U should get a shorty 2s lipo from what I noticed ur using a tiny pack that looks like it should be on a transmitter. I'm not sure what's the esc and motor ur using but ur gyro seems fine(hopefully it's compatible with the servo). Anyways the chassis ur using is the worst platform for starters(the Sakura D4)😅 I suggest getting the Sakura D5v2/D5mr(they resolved the problems the d4 had and made it better), Yokomo YD2 series and Reved RDX(new) to really start on to get the best starting experience and improve upon that
Try moving the internals such as the battery to find the perfect weight. Also, adding small weights may also help. It seems like the weight is quite far to the front(im not a pro) so *maybe* try adding/moving it to the back. It would be lit if you made a video about it as well.
White car needs tuning. Component and gyro placement/ settings can drastically alter a car. When I built my d5 it was undriveable but a bit of tweaking to battery and gyro position and settings and now it drives great
By the way you can upgrade the MST but good luck getting any parts I own one Drive lines for the Active toe have been on back order for three months. Rear ESC mount 4 1/2 months. Not to mention the electronics that come in it are absolute garbage so the very first thing you will be upgrading will be the Gyro and servo. So in the long run the MST is going to cost you three times more than just building a kit.
I had the D4 once and it was a pain to tune for drifting over all I really didn’t like it and had to sell it and get the yokomo yd-2s it drift amazing and it was a little more easy to tune than the d4 what I recommend for the d4 is more angle I’m the front and harder tires so it doesn’t grip so much so it can slide around and makes sure to have a sensor motor and esc if you get the sweet point tune for the d4 it would be amazing too! Keep it up don’t give up on the d4
i disagree, the d4 is one of the worst rwd platforms out there and it makes me cringe when people somehow still recommend them over the massively superior d5. the amount of money and tuning required for a d4 is not worth it, especially since it'll never reach the performance of a box stock rmx no matter what you do to it. just avoid them at all cost lmao
@@2drpeppersplz yeah the d4 is terrible to tune out of the box tbh, it's not a great platform for beginners. another issue I am seeing is you haven't tuned the chassis. D4's need to be dialed in extensively and really have alot of adjustability that make the tuning of the car a big part of it. you should have gotten a D5 and dialed that in tbh, especially when you already are using budget electronics it would at least make tuning easier and while it would be not as adjustable it would at least make more sense to compare to a Rmx especially at the price point.
also looking into drifting this isn't a particularly easy hobby at definitely a hard and sharp learning curve. like your probably don't even realize it but your RMX is Waaaaaaaaaaayy out of wack from the looks of it your steering in the front is janky and needs to be walked in as the front needs to be able to lead the rear. RC drifting is a culmination of alot of aspects in drifting and unless you have people who can properly tune your chassis and teach you you will be in a difficult rut and have a very bad day. this shouldn't discourage someone though it is alot like skating where you kinda need to really keep pushing the boundaries of what you don't know further and futher away as you learn more and more and while it has a aggressive learning curve it just means this isn't a hobby for everyone and thats pretty cool.

Hey 10th scale garage. Maybe some tips to check out for on your built drifter. Set your front toe almost 0° no more than 3°. Front ride height lower than the rear for weight transfer. Your gyro gain looked a little high because it was pushing its nose when initiated into a drift. Keep up the awesome content man
Actually the mst rmx 2.0 is a pretty good rtr chassis out of the box, not that a built chassis is bad but the Sakura d4 is a tricky chassis to tune. From what I heard the Sakura d4 is terrible out of the box and needs a lot of tuning to get right so it's bad for beginners but okay for pros and experienced drivers. I could recommend you the Sakura D5 or D5mr instead since I had a fun experience with it while I was still a little new to this advanced drifting stuff and it's one of the cheapest drift chassis out there. Yokomo yd2 series is better than the d5 and has tuning potential but it's around the rdx level but the RDX has a prefixed tune as turnbuckles are locked when out of the box but very versatile anyways. It really just depends on what chassis you bought and stuff and whether it's a good chassis or a bad chassis, any chassis can be good with a lot of tuning. (I know this comment is really long but hopefully this can at least let u know about rc drift chassis a little more in general)

Thank you for the comparison, I just picked up an MST 2.0 from Hobby Town last weekend, my first drift (have had HPI Sprints in the past). What battery brand do you recommend as far as a 2s Lipo?
I got my son an RMX. I tried to go cheap and picked up some Traxxas electronics. Bad idea. I'll be getting some real drift electronics soon. Great video as always! 🤘
The problem of your custom build is the gyro and servo combo...Just buy a Futaba GYD450 gyro and a ReveD RS-ST servo, your car will drastically improve in handling and maintaining beautiful drifts..
After you get your build worked out I would like to know if your opinion changes. My first crawler was two beat down 10.2's. I gutted, took the best parts each had and built one. I was excited until I took it to a comp. It sucked! I had no idea how to properly tune/set-up. After much research, several adjustments it did pretty good. I added a few more upgrades, learned some more and now it is a beast. Good video!
I feel your pain with the D4 bro, in prettymuch the same place with mine, bit less cash into it but just as bad handling even after hours of fiddling and watching tips n tuning vids, wheel spacers to stop the front binding up, bit less rear toe, and why the hell is the chassis too long to fit any body properly? rear wheels all shoved back in the wheel arches, I mean cmon..
You're gonna continue to spend hours and just waist time if you have the money buy a Yokomo yd2 e or s but if your on a budget get the Sakura d5 its 100 times better then the d4
Nice info. I about got the d4 a couple weeks ago but decided to wait till after I get the kraton 6s out of lawaway lol I'm glad I waited. And Im also hoping the MST parts come back in stock from the Christmas rush before I get it because there really wasn't any parts available. everything was back ordered or out of stock. And if I can upgrade it I don't want. I love customizing lmao .... subbed 🤘
Few major things id say is that. You didnt get a legit sakura d4. You got a fully alloyed out chinese copy. While this looks great the out box set up is TERRIBLE. Another big thing would be gyro placement. Try moving it to the back and see if that helps catching the drifts. For tires id try using the ones from the mst. Maybe mess with battery placement or atleast just hold it down.
Pretty sure its just tires bro, those tires obviously had traction issues, you could see the car fail to steer at all on a few attempts and just plow straight on forward.
I agree, but for some reason I feel like the tires are too soft??? They certainly feel softer than the tires on my MST or any of the tires on my AWD drifters.
Sorry it didn’t work out. Building can be a risk. My first build(Zmt-10) turned out to be a real let down and money pit. 💩 Looks great though. 👌 Let’s get back to SCT’s and the track!
Learn how set up and tune the kit. If you're a complete beginner, go to a hobby shop let them tune your kit then do a comparison video, it's more entertaining and informative that way than just make a comparison without utter knowledge of what you're doing.
The MST is definitely better in terms of usability and utility, but overall I always follow the best quote I ever heard. I'd rather lose a race in a car I built then win a race in a car I bought.

Good video!
Yeah. Learning and progressing is all part of the fun.
Enjoy the weekend
why not go ALL OUT and make a front wheel drive drift car? I would like to see that myself
Someday.
Cool information
I feel your pain with the D4 bro, in prettymuch the same place with mine, bit less cash into it but just as bad handling even after hours of fiddling and watching tips n tuning vids, wheel spacers to stop the front binding up, bit less rear toe, and why the hell is the chassis too long to fit any body properly? rear wheels all shoved back in the wheel arches, I mean cmon..
Agreeeeeeeee
You're gonna continue to spend hours and just waist time if you have the money buy a Yokomo yd2 e or s but if your on a budget get the Sakura d5 its 100 times better then the d4
@@THROWEDDRIFT yo thanks for the advice Rheandel 👍 think ima save for the yd2 e/s, lost faith in 3racing abit 🙄
I love customizing lmao .... subbed 🤘
Welcome to the 10th scale squad!!
@@10thScaleGarage 🤘 thanks bro
Few major things id say is that. You didnt get a legit sakura d4. You got a fully alloyed out chinese copy. While this looks great the out box set up is TERRIBLE.
Another big thing would be gyro placement. Try moving it to the back and see if that helps catching the drifts.
For tires id try using the ones from the mst.
Maybe mess with battery placement or atleast just hold it down.
I like to do both
600 vs 400 I rather get bought over built cause why build something crappy for more money I don’t get it
If you build it they will come.✌🏾👊🏾👍🏾
Pretty sure its just tires bro, those tires obviously had traction issues, you could see the car fail to steer at all on a few attempts and just plow straight on forward.
I agree, but for some reason I feel like the tires are too soft??? They certainly feel softer than the tires on my MST or any of the tires on my AWD drifters.
We prefer built 😉
Yes Carl. I know……
Sorry it didn’t work out. Building can be a risk. My first build(Zmt-10) turned out to be a real let down and money pit. 💩
Looks great though. 👌
Let’s get back to SCT’s and the track!
I’d love to get to the track. Might be a couple months though. It’s crazy cold here.
You should make that the fast and furious car like the truck
Which one??
The blue one
Dumb down that wheel speed. See if that does it
cool video, I wanna get a drift car,
Doooo it
Dooooo it.
@@10thScaleGarage so I don't have a place to drive it, so I wanna rent a location to use and get others into the hobby,
I thought the r34 was the cheep one on first look but I was wrong aha nice cars tho
Can I get one
Yes.
just build a yokomo yd2sx3 proper setup is key
interesting i had this question for the couple of days :))) i am more street driveing :P
I can do that with my 4x4 rustler on 6s. No traction at all haha
Ha! I had a segment where I drifted the whole thing with my Losi Baja Rey but I cut it out.
@@10thScaleGarage dang you should of left it in haha
You have traction control on duuhhhhh
Thanks for this video!
Dude what kind of cheep ass ali express Chinese knock off bottom of the cereal box free with a coupon camera are you using?
Remember Boyz... No points for 2nd place 😎
No points for first place either, haha. I’m broke.
@@10thScaleGarage 😂
When I was 3 year old I wanted the Lexus rcf RC car now I am 12 still i don't have it
There cool but the 4wd drifting is for me. ;)
I’m wayyyyyy better at 4WD drifting.
Learn how set up and tune the kit. If you're a complete beginner, go to a hobby shop let them tune your kit then do a comparison video, it's more entertaining and informative that way than just make a comparison without utter knowledge of what you're doing.
MST makes some good kits though😬
Rather drive than build
too much throttle and too grippy tyres i think
The MST is definitely better in terms of usability and utility, but overall I always follow the best quote I ever heard. I'd rather lose a race in a car I built then win a race in a car I bought.
But the Lexus looks 10x cooler XD
I don't think the car is the whole issue here.
Yeah. We have zero clue what we’re doing.
Hey budd awesome video as aways. I cnt drift worth a damn lol but I am worlds greatest crasher loli like both built an bought
I’m right there with ya!
@@10thScaleGarage if I had the cash that I have spent in bodys an broken parts I could probably buy a xmaxx lol
*150th like*
Sakura chasis just drive like dookie 😂
Word.
omg PLEASE image stabalize the rc footage. i dont wanna throw up watching this video but damnit man its hard to watch
