Christopher Lloyd's performance here and in MoM honestly is remarkable, it resembles Nimoy's work a lot more than Hauer's and it brings a whole lot of energy.
After Nimoy passed and KH3 would need a new voice, I had always hoped his voice would be Christopher Lloyd (he's got a unique voice and experience with voice acting) but KH3 happened and I gave up on it. Without reading the cast list before playing remind, I lost my mind when he opened his mouth to speak. I knew he was perfect
I think I know how Xehanort was voice is like this, canon wise to be precise, and no, it's not because he smokes, if he did, that would be entirely be a different game all together. Throughout the series, he wanted to seek answers to awaken Kingdom Hearts because he's scared of one thing and it's not just because he wanted to know why it was never seen again after the darkness took it, but it's also the fact that Xehanort himself is dying. Hearing his voice (Nimoy and Lloyd's respectively,) it sounded like he was suffering from laryngitis, which if he was having a cold, pushing his vocal cords hard enough, evidence of the video now, including straining his body throughout battles he fought in. That's the thing that when we get older, we know that some point we'll die, but Xehanort wanted to know how he can live on, in so many different ways he tried: Taking over Terra's body, splitting himself up into many different versions of himself, using the power of darkness, but all he was doing was trying to delay the inevitable for as long as he could. Eraqus' spirit helped his old friend come to terms that even if he found a way live on forever, there will be consequences of it if he does so. In truth what Union X had showed us, we are indeed Xehanort, we are scared to grow too old and die at some point. We want to find a way to live on, but in truth, there is no way, all we can do is try to find time to the ones we have around us and make the best of it. Xehanort is an amazing antagonist and the shock that we were him, all the more intriguing and awesome to know more about!
Okay...I love Nimoy, Hauer (Rest in peace, you amazing men), and Lloyd. All of them have their strengths in certain ways when it came to voicing Xehanort.

That's why he's better than Hauer. Hauer is not a bad actor at all. He's just not Xehanort. And people may say he does lines like "Perhaps, IF you survive" better, he's only good when he's not hamming it up. But to be Master Xehanort means to be hammy and dramatic AF, and Hauer really strains at that. I'm not satisfied when Hauer shouts "Come, Kingdom Hearts!" coz it really sounds like he's forcing it. Lloyd, OTOH, just has that natural ham in his voice that is PERFECT for being old Nort

Beast Cutter Baphonort is the best story boss in this game. His lines like “No Mercy!” Make it even better. I really wish the first half of his data fight was his Re:Mind form.
Be more specific, do you mean Sam Witwer, his VA from Unleashed or the *actor* from the movies, Ian McDiarmid? Sam might nail it with a different tone, but- Oh, I'm, afraid, Ian's voice is a bit too high, for Master Xehanort in general...
Ian McDiarmid is an incredible actor but I don’t know if I would go that route. For as evil as Xehanort has been, his character is complex because of his past where it is shown that while evil, he did want to make the world better and eliminate darkness in his own misguided way, and in the end they found a way to make him seem redeemable. Ian McDiarmid’s Palpatine was truly and unrelentingly evil and I think a performance like that if Ian had decided to channel Palpatine, it would have been a little too much evil even for Xehanort.

No offense to Rutger Hauer but Christopher Lloyed did this role justice. Hauer's voice, imo, was too soft where as Nimoy and Lloyd are more raspy and have more emotion to it.
the reason i prefer this voice over his previous one is it sounds closer to Leonord Nimoy, not sure how to spell his name, but he also sounds so excited. whereas in OG kh3 he sounds almost bored this voice makes him sound like this is an event he’s been waiting for his entire life which is fitting bc he has been

I caught that when in the DLC the manner in which he calls out to KH, he sounded overjoyed and gleeful like he was waiting to let out that excitement after years of planning were finally paying off. As much as I enjoyed Lloyd’s performance, that was probably my personal fav bit
Hauer's problem is that when the time comes to be bombastic, he can't do it. He's straining and thus ends up sounding forced. Just listen to his "Come, Kingdom Hearts!"
I love Christopher. He makes a great bad guy But NO ONE has done a more sinister villain in this series than Billy Zane. He was by far the best. Right down to the battle sounds. The delivery was spectacular. It helped that the writing was vastly superior back then, too. KH has the dumbest ongoing story these days. Zane was too good for where they went anyway.

Okay, hear me out here. I just discovered the newest costume DLCs for Mortal Kombat 11, Sonya, Johnny Cage and Raiden as they appeared in the MK movie. They even got the original actors to reprise their roles. And so I thought: Raiden's actor, Christopher Lambert, sounds a lot like Leonard Nimoy when he voiced Xehanort. I honestly think Lambert would be a much better replacement for Nimoy than Hauer or Lloyd. Nothing against them, but if you've heard Lambert's voice, I think you'd see what I'm talking about.
Honestly Hauer was a bad choice or the person directing him to sound like that made a bad decision. Xehanort sounded nothing like a creepy old man. While Lloyd isnt anywhere near Leonards Xehanort it was a decent replacement voice for the character.
When you replace a voice actor, you need to find someone who can match what the original actor brought to the character. Nimoy had a particular gravel and texture to Xehanort's voice that Hauer (or his director) did not even try to recreate. I'm sure he gave his best, but it just did not sound or feel like the same character. Lloyd is a better replacement, but given a lot of the Disney impressionists, I'm convinced they still could've found someone even better to stand in for the role instead of grabbing for another elderly celebrity. Class act by Lloyd, but for fuck's sake, give impressionists work. I'm not even an actor and I can do Nimoy's Xehanort well enough to impress my friends, there's no reason they couldn't find an actual voice actor who can mimic it.
Agreed. I wish I knew what you're impression sounded like exactly. Still someone should make a mod where it replaces all the voice clips from Xehanort with ones that mimic Nimoy's voice. Having 2 guys doing the voice for the same character feels off to me. I know that Rutger died before he could do any more lines for ReMind or Melody of Memory but it still feels off. Nimoy is obviously the best for old man Xehanort, while Lloyd is second, and Rutger is last because he doesn't have any old man sounding voice in his vocal cords. I'm sorry if I come off as disrespectful, I'm sure they all did their best but Rutger didn't fit the role at all especially since Nimoy did the role first.

My due respects and remorse at the late Rutger Hauer, but i'm sorry his Master Xehanort voice was absolutely awful, I truly feel sorry for him for the shoes he had to fill but the direction he chose to act out Xehanort was just not consistent with the portrayal and mannerisms Leonard Nimoy and the acting direction left behind, from BBS and DDD, at least Christopher Lloyd was making the effort to make a passible imitation of the original acting directions, you know, like a VA should- Of course I don't pin the blame on him, a lot of his original lines in the base game feel very "first takeish" so many problems with the base game at launch were due to the ironically rushed and half-baked development that I wouldn't be surprised if Rutger was putting a more "impromptu" performance than they'd let on.
I agree, except for your opinion on KH3. I mean it's true, KH3 was a flawed game and it was rushed but at least it wasn't the "Hurry up we only a short amount of time until the deadline" kind of rush, more like a "I want to get this done and over with" kind of rush. 1) In the 7v13 clash, all the Guardians should've taken down 1 or 2 Organization not just Kairi before she was crystalized but all the Guardians. Not have Sora just get involved in all the fights except for Luxord, Vanitas (when he was fighting him with Ventus), Xion (to bring her and Roxas back), and the fight with Young Xehanort, Ansem, and Xemnas. 2) Riku should've been the one to restrain Terra-Xehanort long enough for Terra's heart to take back his body 3) An Olympus Coliseum arena, like the mod that we have now (which is still a WIP) 4) 0.2 should've been at the beginning of the game, similar to how we have to play as Roxas in the prologue for KH2 5) Have Episode 2 stories for the worlds if they we were actually going to be playing it for as long as Square Enix predicted we would play 6) Kairi should've gone with Sora to Scala to finish off Xehanort, just Kairi since Riku already had his spotlight in KH2. 7) You should've been able to explore Quadratum a little bit before you fight Yozora, like how you explored the realm of darkness in BBS's Secret Episode. 8) The ending for KH3 should've been a happier one. Everyone gets to have a happy ending including Sora. It would've given the characters a year long break before they begin the next arc and fight the next big baddie. Leave them to discover the world of unreality a different way. 9) A couple more worlds like Radiant Garden, Disney Town/Castle, a little bit of the realm of darkness, and maybe Destiny Island and Land of Departure. 10) more areas to go to in some of the worlds like Twilight Town, Toy Box (more exploring in the vents and the streets before you reach Galaxy Toys), Arendelle, 100 Acre Wood, and the Keyblade Graveyard (like a huge area before we get to the maze). 11) more mini games like similar mini games for 100 Acre Wood Those are most of the stuff that I think should've been in KH3. The modders will have to do it themselves then and thank God for them too. Edit: I've actually been working on a KH3 Rewrite myself for about a few months. It's a long process but I know it will be worth it, it'll give a better aftertaste if you know what I mean. This Rewrite is for story and gameplay wise, anything that modders can create that Square Enix never did.

@ Unfortunately for those of us who like parts of what Hauer did, when you're a Xehanort, the ability to be hammy takes precedence, so Lloyd wins out on that regard. Likewise, the sedate moments are too far and few in between in all of old Nort's appearances in this game, so that aspect gets overshadowed by what we expect out of the old coot

Class act by Lloyd, but for fuck's sake, give impressionists work. I'm not even an actor and I can do Nimoy's Xehanort well enough to impress my friends, there's no reason they couldn't find an actual voice actor who can mimic it.
Agreed. I wish I knew what you're impression sounded like exactly.
Still someone should make a mod where it replaces all the voice clips from Xehanort with ones that mimic Nimoy's voice. Having 2 guys doing the voice for the same character feels off to me. I know that Rutger died before he could do any more lines for ReMind or Melody of Memory but it still feels off.
Nimoy is obviously the best for old man Xehanort, while Lloyd is second, and Rutger is last because he doesn't have any old man sounding voice in his vocal cords.
I'm sorry if I come off as disrespectful, I'm sure they all did their best but Rutger didn't fit the role at all especially since Nimoy did the role first.

@Media Kira Haven't done it for a while; I just tried, and I'm so out of practice that it sounds more like Futurama Richard Nixon lol. Point stands though, I think an impression would've been better than just grabbing at random elder celebrities. Moot point by now, and not a hill to die on by any means.

My due respects and remorse at the late Rutger Hauer, but i'm sorry his Master Xehanort voice was absolutely awful, I truly feel sorry for him for the shoes he had to fill but the direction he chose to act out Xehanort was just not consistent with the portrayal and mannerisms Leonard Nimoy and the acting direction left behind, from BBS and DDD, at least Christopher Lloyd was making the effort to make a passible imitation of the original acting directions, you know, like a VA should- Of course I don't pin the blame on him, a lot of his original lines in the base game feel very "first takeish" so many problems with the base game at launch were due to the ironically rushed and half-baked development that I wouldn't be surprised if Rutger was putting a more "impromptu" performance than they'd let on.
I agree, except for your opinion on KH3.
I mean it's true, KH3 was a flawed game and it was rushed but at least it wasn't the "Hurry up we only a short amount of time until the deadline" kind of rush, more like a "I want to get this done and over with" kind of rush.
1) In the 7v13 clash, all the Guardians should've taken down 1 or 2 Organization not just Kairi before she was crystalized but all the Guardians. Not have Sora just get involved in all the fights except for Luxord, Vanitas (when he was fighting him with Ventus), Xion (to bring her and Roxas back), and the fight with Young Xehanort, Ansem, and Xemnas.
2) Riku should've been the one to restrain Terra-Xehanort long enough for Terra's heart to take back his body
3) An Olympus Coliseum arena, like the mod that we have now (which is still a WIP)
4) 0.2 should've been at the beginning of the game, similar to how we have to play as Roxas in the prologue for KH2
5) Have Episode 2 stories for the worlds if they we were actually going to be playing it for as long as Square Enix predicted we would play
6) Kairi should've gone with Sora to Scala to finish off Xehanort, just Kairi since Riku already had his spotlight in KH2.
7) You should've been able to explore Quadratum a little bit before you fight Yozora, like how you explored the realm of darkness in BBS's Secret Episode.
8) The ending for KH3 should've been a happier one. Everyone gets to have a happy ending including Sora. It would've given the characters a year long break before they begin the next arc and fight the next big baddie. Leave them to discover the world of unreality a different way.
9) A couple more worlds like Radiant Garden, Disney Town/Castle, a little bit of the realm of darkness, and maybe Destiny Island and Land of Departure.
10) more areas to go to in some of the worlds like Twilight Town, Toy Box (more exploring in the vents and the streets before you reach Galaxy Toys), Arendelle, 100 Acre Wood, and the Keyblade Graveyard (like a huge area before we get to the maze).
11) more mini games like similar mini games for 100 Acre Wood
Those are most of the stuff that I think should've been in KH3. The modders will have to do it themselves then and thank God for them too.
Edit: I've actually been working on a KH3 Rewrite myself for about a few months. It's a long process but I know it will be worth it, it'll give a better aftertaste if you know what I mean. This Rewrite is for story and gameplay wise, anything that modders can create that Square Enix never did.

@@MasterTredz Rutger Hauer, good as he was, unfortunately, could not bring the ham that's expected out of Master Xehanort. He was too sedate, and not even in the low-key hammy that Richard Epcar and Paul St. Peter were.
@ Unfortunately for those of us who like parts of what Hauer did, when you're a Xehanort, the ability to be hammy takes precedence, so Lloyd wins out on that regard. Likewise, the sedate moments are too far and few in between in all of old Nort's appearances in this game, so that aspect gets overshadowed by what we expect out of the old coot
