Thank you so much, I looked at so many videos trying to find a way to get these things out of my tank. This is the first helpful thing I found in 3 months.
I had planeria in one of my 5.5 gallon tanks. It was sitting empty, cycling a couple filters so nutrients were high. Once I was done cycling those filters, I took one out (for another quarantine tank) and put in one of my Male bettas. After he acclimated to the change in tank I noticed him starting to hunt them and eat them off the sides. You can't control this style of treatment, but my tank has been planeria free since then. Great video.
Thank you for respectfully making light of this situation. I've been stressed trying to decide which method to use to erratic planaria. I have a trap and for sure have them, so your video was helpful!
If you're considering the trapping method and don't want to buy/wait for a planaria trap what worked for me was to: 1) empty a 500 mL plastic bottle of water 2) poke 6 holes in the bottom of the bottle with a needle 3) put some fishfood inside the bottle 4) let the bottle rest on the floor of the aquarium with the poked holes resting directly on the substrate 5) empty the bottle once you notice some planaria in it (in my tank it was like every ~3 hours, not a long time) 6) rinse and repeat until you do this method and find no planaria in the bottle

Hey gamers wife. Nice video. I use Fenbendazol against planaria too. Works great. Thats how i use it: I use 30 ml Fenbendazol in 100l (22 gal) water. Let it in there for 10 days. Remember to use a airstone... to keep the O2 high enough... dead worms will rott in the water. On the 11. day i make 50% waterchange. And then i make 50% every 3 days. 3 times. Then i wait 2 weeks and redo the process. Why? Planaria lay eggs. and to kill the new hatched planaria before they are old enough to lay new eggs, u simply do the same process again. Greetings from germany, keep up the good work :-)

Waste of money. Poke some holes in the bottom of a plastic water bottle, drop in some gravel or something for ballast, then add some sinking food pellets. Place it bottom down in the tank, pushing it down into the substrate a bit. First time I used it I had 10 planaria within about 30 minutes.

This is an awesome video and wish it had come out a few months earlier. I was trying various things when a tank or two of mine suddenly showed up with P. (hitchhikers from plants from others--just like you). I have successfully used "planaria zero" which seems safe for shrimp. However, I had to order it from Japan. Your solutions, especially the one using alum is probably a great find. It does the same thing as the planaria zero which basically is a desiccant and "drys up" the worms. I will definitely try alum. I've also just taken the tank down and dried it out. That I'm hoping also works. However, I can appreciate that it's not an option for most people. Since I have a fish room, it's fairly easy for me to do but where there are live plants, I know this is not always possible.
what do you do after the 3rd day? a 50% waterchange? I just dosed my aquarium with alum yesterday and wanted to know the steps for after the 3rd day. Right now the water is super clear, but the surface of everything has a white film, kinda chunky. What should I do?
I too use and swear by bacter ae for my shrimp tanks. Cutting down the back their feedings and going to solid dish foods for a while was very effective, thank you. Also, along my adventure I discovered yet another method. Lower the water level in the tank just below the upper black rim. Once they begin getting hungry, they come out of the gravel and head towards the surface to look down for the food source. I used a fine brine shrimp net and collected them off the glass. No chemical warfare necessary.
Had some white worms but determined they were rhabdocoela (or at least I think they were). Cue much relief, they were pretty easy to get rid of! Thanks for this video though, I thought it was hard to find straightforward info on how to get rid of planaria when that's what I thought I had.
Thanks so much! Yeah, I had never heard of rhabdocoela before I started doing research on planaria, but they are definitely a lot less invasive thankfully. :)
I forgot to mention that I purchased that planaria trap 2 years ago and it works fantastic. Just one thing though, tiny new born shrimp can find there way into the trap. Simply empty the contents of the trap in a cup of the aquarium water and you can suck out the new borns with a turkey baster.
Very Informative video. I notice my three bettas tanks had these small white things that were swimming in my water some weeks ago! I notice they were detritus worms. They are harmless but are nuisance.
I recently noticed detritus worms in one of my betta tanks as well. Hard to understand, because I don't overfeed my tanks - I stand there dropping one pellet, blood worm or brine shrimp in at a time!Anyway, this may be a problem that will solve itself, as I've also seen my bettas hunting and eating a worm or two!
Great video, I'm curious if the planaria trap works, I found some in my shrimp tank and have rabbit snails so I would rather trap then move the snails to a new home as I know the meds would kill my snails.
So I have a betta in a 3.5 gallon planted tank with a heater set at about78 to 80 degrees. His tank is changed about weekly, and he will be getting two pellets a day as of now because I think I have planaria in my tank. Do you think i should try to do water changes 2 times a week and keep that feeding schedule or buy the planaria trap? I've only now noticed them because they've been all over the glass. Thanks for the info on the video!
Can I put Panacur C in my tank with betta fish and nerite snails? I have a 10 gallon tank and need to get rid of worms. And is it ok to keep filter sponge and air stone in tank while treating? And then after is my sponge ok to keep?
How long will the mixed concentration of fenben last? Does it need to be refrigerated? I just dosed and have a lot leftover in my mixed up water bottle. Can I save it if I need to dose again in 24 hours?
I love your videos and your energy! And this one as well was very helpful. I do have a question though. I’m learning by experience about pests that can get into your aquarium. I’ve been through the pest snails, detritus worms (was so disgusted until I learned more about them!) and now leeches. Leeches have almost discouraged me from this hobby. But I do love this hobby so I’m not giving into them! I had no choice but to part with my fish, as I’ll be having major surgery soon and have no one to care for them. But, I haven’t taken down my aquarium yet. My plants are mostly cleared out. I have two nerites left in there. It is very difficult to find information on how to rid your tank of leeches. The type I think I have are an Asian freshwater leech Barbronia weberi. Would you and aquarium co op have any advice before I give in and completely take everything down? If I have to start over so be it (it would have to wait until after my surgery), but if there’s a chance I can keep mine going I’d much rather.
I just got the panacur-c and I did what you say! I hope it really helps I have a 5gal tank with a Betta and two kuhliloaches and I noticed those little worms...just one question how long should I wait until give other dose of panacur-c, like once a day for a couple of days and the make a water change or what do you recommend...I also removed the activated charcoal from the pump
I figured I'd grab some small fish this week to deal with the planaria in my axolotl tank. I know they can damage her gills, so I'll be keeping a close eye on it as an experiment.
Thanks so much. They have bloomed. I'm worried because I have so many baby shrimp and a buried mom. I really hope I can fix this without losing all 30 of my babies. 🤞🏾😲
I have praziquantel instead of fenbendazole, but that seems to be sold on much smaller sizes. (I have 50mg tablets). Does anyone happen to know the proper dosage of that?
I had problems with planaria and detritus worms. I was about to medicate my tank but I wanted to do it as naturally as possible. Medicine will be my last option. I wondered why I didn't have any worm with my previous smaller tank when I only had a betta and 2 Corydorys. Unfortunately, my Corys died in the process of transfering/transplanting them to a bigger tank without isolating my fishes (big mistake!!!). Only the betta fish survived. Long story short, I tried maturing/cycling my new tank for a month with just 1 female betta. That's because I also wanted to wait and grow my plants from seeds and a couple of plants bought from the pet shop, etc before I introduce more fishes. To my surprise three weeks after, there were thousands of them all over the glass. They were very disgusting it bothers me knowing there are worms on my tank! So I went to the pet shop, bought me 6 guppies, 12 tetras, 3 corydorys. After 1 day, problem solved! You can just introduce them to your tank and remove them after a day or two if you just need to get rid of the worms. Guppies I found to be the best worm eater. Looked like a frenzy I actually enjoyed watching them hunt the worms one by one. I couldn't see a single worm on the glass even after just a single day! I have a 25 gallons tank. 80cmx40cmx30cm dimension. Just incase someone out there has the same problem and looking for a better solution. Enjoy your Tank!
Great video! I’m a first time shrimp keeper and I noticed that you have a very fine substrate in your shrimp tanks. Is bigger substrate like aquarium gravel/ rocks from petco fine for shrimp too? Or do shrimp need small substrate like sand or fine gravel?
I use aragonite to buffer the water seeing as neo caridina shrimp prefer hard water and it is heavily planted tank as well, they prefer that, but it doesn't mean you HAVE to plant the tank. Hopefully I helped a little bit!
Also you can buy different amounts of Panacur C. For example if you buy the 2 gram size, use 200 ml of water instead of 100 ml. You will end up with the same concentration.
How to Get Rid of Planaria. Quite simple. I bought 5 Coridoras sterbai for my midsize aquarium, The make short work with any critters in your aquarium. They are hardy and will live happily for years in your aquarium.
I have new planted tank betta only and found my betta chasing a worm this morning. Half an inch or so long. And I'm freaking out. I thought the betta was gonna catch it but it squiggled under the gravel. It came from new plants I planted yesterday. Ive only had the tank for 5 days. Its clean. Petsmart said use paraguard
my problem is they must hitch a ride in with my blackworm culture and now have infested it. I don't think these methods will work without taking out the blackworms as well any suggestion, other then starting a new culture which I've done.
no-planaria seems to be killing my pond and assasin snails but the planaria only seems slowed down by it so far, im trying a heavier dose to see if it helps. it seems to be killing them.
My detritus was so bad and annoying I had to move my fish temporarily to another tank bleach the filter, heater, and decorations and change the gravel it was a lot but now I don’t have them. Definitely the worst part about keeping fish.
That's why I'm here! Oh my 🐠 fish! I'm so grossed out. I immediately moved my Boi out (coolest Betta ever) and put him in my 55 gallon because I had no idea what these creepy, squiggly worms were or if they would kill him or me because my hand are in his tank weekly lol I'm seeing the tiny, hair-thin ones wiggling in the water plus a few larger ones on the glass. I do weekly water changes and really do stay on top of his tank, 10 gallon, at least I thought I was. I did recently buy more plants from Petco. He hates a lot of flow so maybe my filtration system should be turned up a notch? I don't know? I'm so stressed out but now I feel less panicked. I'm on my way to order some Panacur online at Walmart Pet RX Thank you so much GTF xo

Did it work for you?
I figured I'd grab some small fish this week to deal with the planaria in my axolotl tank. I know they can damage her gills, so I'll be keeping a close eye on it as an experiment.
Thanks so much. They have bloomed. I'm worried because I have so many baby shrimp and a buried mom. I really hope I can fix this without losing all 30 of my babies. 🤞🏾😲
"...and then, shake a lot, a lot, a lot -- FOREVER."
LOL!
I have praziquantel instead of fenbendazole, but that seems to be sold on much smaller sizes. (I have 50mg tablets).
Does anyone happen to know the proper dosage of that?
Does anyone know if using panacur c canine dewormer to kill worms, does the filter need to be active or off? Thanks
Havent used but doing research seemed filter to be off and it does work but is harmful to snails in tank so remove snails if you have any
Today I killing this
Good luck! I hoped you were successful. :)
Bro it was on my turtle I remove it with cotton bud and now it's attacking on my aquarium
Can they shrink up to a tiny dot?
Whats the other worm you said? Sea trimp?
You should make a video about how to remove leeches from your tank
It doesn't really matter tbh unless you plan on planting your tank. You could go without substate if you really wanted.
I have corydoras shrimps and a zebra snail I want to do this for my planaria hope it works
Is the dewormer safe to use for a snail tank ???
Don’t think so
I have new planted tank betta only and found my betta chasing a worm this morning. Half an inch or so long. And I'm freaking out. I thought the betta was gonna catch it but it squiggled under the gravel. It came from new plants I planted yesterday. Ive only had the tank for 5 days. Its clean. Petsmart said use paraguard
Seed shrimp and planarian seem like a free clean up crew and food source.
Fenben does work well but trap & water change is my preferred way.
I’ve been using the planaria trap for a week now. I get 20-40 planaria per night. Even though I never see them they are still coming out at night.
my problem is they must hitch a ride in with my blackworm culture and now have infested it. I don't think these methods will work without taking out the blackworms as well any suggestion, other then starting a new culture which I've done.
Does anyone know if the canine tablets are assassin snail safe?
good info, I've had a few infestations of planaria over the years, neon tetras liked to eat them!
no-planaria seems to be killing my pond and assasin snails but the planaria only seems slowed down by it so far, im trying a heavier dose to see if it helps. it seems to be killing them.
it also killed hydra
link me the music in the beginning please I be lookin for it forever 😭😭😭😢😢😢
My detritus was so bad and annoying I had to move my fish temporarily to another tank bleach the filter, heater, and decorations and change the gravel it was a lot but now I don’t have them. Definitely the worst part about keeping fish.
Do they start big
Things I've never seen or encountered to my knowledge... Barf ALL the barf and a new phobia.
Lol, I have a similar reaction to certain creepy crawlies as well...
I'm on my way to order some Panacur online at Walmart Pet RX
Thank you so much GTF xo
Does anyone know PraziPro will get rid of planaria worms???
