For anyone following this a little tip if you dont have sandpaper or sanding sticks is to use the back of the scalpel blade so scrape the excess. Scrape horizontal to the piece with the blade square or slightly tilted, it wont take chunks
For me I like to assemble it first. If I leave on the sprue and paint, then I have problems having to back and fix the areas where I cut from the sprue. So perosonal preference to assemble first.
What I did was cut off all the arms holding each model piece except one holding each piece . Much easier to paint but everyone has their own style , also Before the glue dries on the top boom for the gaffe sail put the sail next to it to get the right angle then do the same for the bottom boom and glue it a little bit higher so you can put a bow in the sail.
Great question. These were wire cutters that came in a generic electronics kit when I went to school. However, that being said, you can easily find sprue cutters from just about any hobby shop or online store, and for much cheaper!!
yeah.. Not a good solution, but sure does save some arguments... well, maybe not argument, but debates amongst my friends on who is most correct with anchor placement.

Sadly, I can confirm if you don't scrape lightly, you do cut big chunks out. Scrape lightly!!
It is easier to glue the deck to one of the hull sides first and then glue the other hull side sandwiching the two hull sides surrounding the deck.
Thanks for the tip!
Do you think it's a good idea to paint the parts first and then assemble the model?

@@CounterProductiveGames Aha I hear ya.
No tried that ....the manufacturer's tollerances are too tight

I see you dodged the anchor issue.
