Iranian Mack drives are the best Mack drivers in the world in terms of gear changing, specially those from Shiraz and Shahreza, some of them are so fast in changing gears going uphill that you can't track movement of their hands
You can't prove these things. you have to experience them and in order to experience you have to drive in so many different countries. The other point is that not many 5*4 gearboxes are left in other parts of the world. I have seen a few videos from American drivers driving the solo unit arount and they were awful. They would not have a chance of getting one of them uphill loaded in such a rough climate like Iran.
I actually drive in Britain right now but as most drivers are owner driver in Iran so things rarely change which is good in some ways. you still get 1975 Macks moving super heavy loads around. I mean over 100 tonne
I would love to drive one of new semis. 10 speed manual boxes were the last model Iran imprted in 2001 and ever since it has all been the European stuff coming in which is why many drivers stick to their old vehicles, Oh mate the sound of 5*4 going up mountains, true music concert to me:)
Oh yes, plenty of them. They are seasonal load though, Summer and Spring. A lot of fun, They sit nicely on low loader but you have no wing mirrors with them at all, as wide as anything they are.
These are old Mack trucks that made for Mine industry, but they have been sold to Iran as trade for oil. Poor Iranian truck drivers, including my dad, were so hard working people, but dealing and driving 20 gears manual truck, with no hydraulic steering wheel, No cooling system, No Road Truck suspension ( Air suspension), Not sleeping bunk.. was so hard that made so many truck drivers to become older than their age. My dad used to 1965 Mack ( same as you see in minute 0.25) same color, and later on he got 1972 which was better but didn't have hydraulic steering system. I drove 1972, 20 gears, and I have been in hottest place such as Bandar Abbas with my father. After revolution ( engelab) some Volvo F-12 , Scania arrived to Iran which was the King of Trucks in 1988, but they were made for Mine industry as well considering suspension, and heavy gear box !!! Meanwhile, most of the Road truck in Europe were two axle on Truck, and 3 axles in Trailer, which came to Iran so later than Turkey. I am so happy that most of Truck are up to date now, and truck drivers enjoy the European style Trucking.
Exactly happened to me and my father as well ! It was very hard job especially in summer ! But hey I learned how to drive with Mack at 12or 13 ! It was hard but it wasn't all bad ! God bless our father 🙏
