Thank you so much. I think it is a great oven. I did not know about it! Every family, with a wood stove needs one of those. Thank you for the video. Good presentation too.
Our furnace gave out on a Thursday night and the part to fix it didn't arrive until the following Tuesday night. Of course we got a freak snow storm with freezing temps in mid April. I wish I had a wood stove but we did have a ventless propane heater with extra filled propane tanks in the garage. We were able to heat a section of our home, the kitchen family room area for $2 a day using this heater. We had a radiator heater to use in the bedroom so we were able to get through 5 days of cold weather without much hassle. Of course we still had electric so we could have used space heaters and the oven in a pinch. But that propane heater really came in handy and since we have 3 full propane back up tanks we could easily have survived another week on just that heat source for cheap. I agree. Have stuff to fall back on. Thanks for the tip on this oven, I am considering getting one to use with a camp stove.
I recently purchased this oven to use w/ the winnerwell nomad stove. During a test burn, it got up to 375 in a half hour. Was able to hold ~350 for a couple hours by keeping an eye on it - adjust the dampeners, add wood, open oven door if too hot. After a few smaller pans arrive, I will try it out. Your trick to set food mid-level up on the cake pan will come in handy. Thanks!
Heidi, you're clever to think of using the cake pan to set the loaf pan on top, to distribute the heat better. Well done! Also, thanks for sharing your tips. Much appreciated!💗💗💗

I purchased the Winnerwell oven from your recommendation, even though you said you haven’t used it yet. I’ve been looking for a good stove-top oven to use and didn’t hesitate when I saw yours. Why not, it’s a rewarding challenge learning new old-world skills. You my dear Heidi, have assisted greatly in this new endeavor. You are appreciated by many, more than you’ll ever know.
You are spot on about the not seeing it as a back up for grid down but just a way of life. One of the reasons I really got into cooking and baking on the wood stove was to make the most out of the energy that was already there and saving money on electricity at the same time and yes, doing such gives us the skills we need so in the event of a power outage, there are no hiccups or learning curves because it is already just what we do
I've had my woodstone for 42 years. It was the very 1st thing we got, When we built our house. I have never ever regretted it. It's dusty at times, Yes you have to get wood prepared every year . I wish I had a wood stove to be able to cook off grid like this! Maybe when we finally find a homestead. I did convince my daughter and son in law to get one for their house as a primary heat source/ back up.
My oldest bought their house with a fireplace. After the first winter and all electric heat they put an insert in and now heat the whole house with it. But they also have plenty of space to store firewood😊. I love wood heat!!!! My home, well there is no storage space for firewood.😕

Though I am not a fan of pellet stoves, I have heard that some insurance companies that do not cover for woodstoves will cover for pellet stoves, however, if I remember correctly, that would not do much good in a power outage because I know at least some if not all need power to operate.
Not an indoor pellet stove. I don't want one of those. That would defeat my purpose for having a wood stove. I'm actually speaking of an outdoor pellet grill. Think Pit Boss or Treager pellet grill. They make the same thing for charcoal. It would need power to run the fan, but I could still use it. Just not per the directions 😉

Our wood heating stove is rectangular shaped and opens on the end, easily handling an 18"X11" log. It takes planning and practice at first, as you say, but I can bake inside it. When it's hot, before I feed the fire again, I can let the fire get low enough to push the coals into the back half. Then I can set a Dutch oven of quick bread, like biscuits or cornbread, uncovered so it will brown, in the door end and shut the door. I have a good poker with a crook on one end to put the pan in and get it out easily. A quick peep part way through will tell me if I need to put a lid on it. No cook time or temp is ever the same; you just have to learn what works. After the bread is done it only takes a few minutes to get the fire stirred back up. I generally won't go to this much trouble if my electric oven is working though.
I believe I did speak about baking inside the woodstove on the other video I did about the pros and cons but other than doing potatoes, and warning up some things back when we only had the insert, I have not done any baking inside. It would certainly take some special arranging of the wood and being very careful if I were to ever to that.
I went to the site on Amazon and it'll be here next week. I'm excited to use it so I'll give you my input then. Also, I had to find a cast iron dutch oven to bake bread in it. Finally found one that wasn't $200.00.
Hi Heidi. This was so helpful having so many tips on how to use it. I'll check it out to see if it will fit on our little wood stove. We also just got a wood grill. 1st meal in a pot turned out great. I'll try to bake in it, too, but in winter it'll be nice if I can bake on the wood stove. I use the sun oven when I can, but browning doesn't happen. Yes, multiple (practiced) methods of doing things without grid power is very good. We've had our Homestead 1 1/2 yrs, and are getting systems in place. Closer all the time. Thanks for your leading. God bless you always.
Heidi have you looked into Outbacker Firebox Range oven portable wood burning tent stove out of England? Has oven on the side. Thought you might want to check it out. God bless Taryn
No, we are already working with Winnerwell now. Even though I did buy the oven myself, we might be getting a tent stove from them. It won't be brand new but will be like new. We also have GStove Tent Stove that we got from a friend. Since we have a couple different locations we are needing them, having two will be good.
I have seen them, but if we ever make room for a cook stove here, I doubt I would go with that one as I have seen others I like better and would also prefer something a bit smaller than that. I am happy with our current set up though
My newer model of Camp Chef stove/oven is safe for inside use as are my Mr Buddy propane heaters. I also have as a back up way to bake is a RV stove/oven. Granted both use propane and I have a large stockpile of one pound bottles and 25 full grill size tanks. I have a port in the side of my house to open up and run a long propane hose through to use the larger tanks. I have been trying to locate a cast iron oven that can be place over a fire. But haven't had any lucky. Granted I do have a number of different sizes of cast iron dutch ovens. I have a large propane smoker that can be used to bake in. I have a 36 inch Blackstone flat top griddle that you little oven might work on. So I am interested in it.
Thank you, Heidi, for the update on this oven! was looking into it; but I did not get it as I did not know how it work. So, thank for doing this video for us.
I have a electric stove which I don’t like. I have always had a gas one at the other house.I did get the small propane stove like the one you have behind you. We heat by wood in the winter this wood be fantastic to be able to use on top. But I was thinking that we have a homemade cinder block with some old stove shelves over it and I could use that stove on top of it in a grid down situation.
I am still waiting to get a woodstove! Maybe I'll start bugging my husband again lol. Mrs. Heidi off topic question. What do used/do to whiten your teeth?
I do not use anything specifically to whiten my teeth but I do make my own toothpowder and sometimes mix it with coconut oil or bush with coconut oil alone: ruclips.net/video/knUSuIUw99c/видео.html
@@RainCountryHomestead I'll check your toothpowder. I already brush with coconut oil. I love it. I had to much coffee the last week and I can see the stains on my teeth 😬. Thank you. God Bless you and your family 🙏.
I'm at a toss up on wether to purchase the Coleman camp oven or the Winnerwell oven. The Coleman is half the price and larger. But, the Winnerwell seems more compact and has a viewing glass on the door. Have you ever used the Coleman camp oven?
I use trivets a lot for helping to adjust the temperature of various items when I am cooking on the woodstove. I had considered doing that with this but it was easier to adjust the pans inside the stove rather than from the outside but if working directly over coals, yes, having an adjustable set up with be important
@@RainCountryHomestead … It finally dawned on me that you could use coals on top as well, perhaps in a pan, to brown the tops of food such as bread. Once again, like baking in a dutch oven. With the added benefit of baking multiple items at a time. Being portable … Well, let’s just say you sold me on this thing. Will be adding it. I kinda like their small, 4 pound, Titanium wood stove too. :)
We have propane stove and when power is out you can’t use oven as the controls run on electricity. The stove top works but needs lighter to ignite burner.
I just bought this oven to use mostly while camping and am looking for a good case to store it in. Would you happened to have found anything like that for this oven?
I love the way you problem solve and think through everything!
God Bless You Heidi - Thank You. I am so appreciative.

🙏
I have a electric stove which I don’t like. I have always had a gas one at the other house.I did get the small propane stove like the one you have behind you. We heat by wood in the winter this wood be fantastic to be able to use on top. But I was thinking that we have a homemade cinder block with some old stove shelves over it and I could use that stove on top of it in a grid down situation.
I am sure there are several ways people could come up with a construction of their own that would work just as well.
Great video, what is the brand of your toaster oven?
This is the one I have: amzn.to/3qXBEtf
I'm at a toss up on wether to purchase the Coleman camp oven or the Winnerwell oven. The Coleman is half the price and larger. But, the Winnerwell seems more compact and has a viewing glass on the door. Have you ever used the Coleman camp oven?
No, I have not so I cannot compare the two by experience
Gotta use equipment to know it works! The more you use it now, the less crap you’ll go through during SHTF
Right! I never understand people who put up food they have never tried or equipment they have never used for "doomsday"
Would be interesting to test it on a raised trivet strictly over coals that would allow for heat adjustment just like you would a dutch oven.
I wonder how well a welding blanket over the top would help like they used with the Coleman oven.
This seems like a great idea
We have propane stove and when power is out you can’t use oven as the controls run on electricity. The stove top works but needs lighter to ignite burner.
I did not know that, does that apply to all propane ranges or just certain ones? I know ones installed in RVs are made to run solely off propane
@@RainCountryHomestead it’s the controls for oven are digital. Operates on electricity
I just bought this oven to use mostly while camping and am looking for a good case to store it in. Would you happened to have found anything like that for this oven?
No, I have bothered to look since I just keep ours set up year round
We have a med size earth stove but unfortunally our stove pipe takes up alot of space on top of my stove.
What is the brand of your toaster oven? I want to bake in one. Not the two larger versions. Thank you

I have gass ,, I wander if I could put this on top of my larger burner. IBS read of using my gass oven. I think I would use less on top
I would think it would work on top of the larger gas burner since it can be used on a gas camp stove.
Can we put that oven on top of gas stove as source of heat ?
I believe so
