The irony of using the internet to bring me back to better times when there was no internet and when I was 18 and this amazing song and video came out.

Hi my dear.... WOW ! This brought back some of my teenage memories back in the 80s. This particular song came out in 1985 and was the DEBUT single from A-ha (they are from Norway, by the way, and the singer's name is Morten Harket !) and it was a number one hit in numerous countries all over Europe, including Germany) ! This music video was really something else back in 1985, since no other music video has been so creative and innovative like this one. I believe it was even the best musc video of the year 1985 and won several awards. I really loved this song back in the days, as well as their first album, which also came out in 1985. They have countless other hits and great songs. Check out "The sun always shines on TV", "Hunting high and low", "Stay on these roads", "Summer moved on"... there are so many other great songs from A.ha !
I really enjoyed watching this video, as much as you did, my dear.... and yes ! My comment to your last reaction video to The Allman Brothers has been deleted again, so don't think I forgot you last time. 🙂
So here's to your next one !
Hugs and kisses from your dear friend Gerry
PS : You look so beautiful and gorgeous with these braids !

Greetings from Norway, the home country of a-ha.
I would be very surprised if your mother has NOT heard Take on me. The song was so different from anything heard before, so it needed the legendary video to get people used to the music. The video was therefore absolutely decisive for a-ha's breakthrough, but Take on me, which is one of the most iconic songs of the 80s, stands well on its own. It has been played an average of 3-400 times a day on the radio in the US for almost 40 years. It has been used in countless TV shows and many have made covers of it. If your mother know the song from her younger days, tell her to go listen to the MTV Unplugged version of the song. It has a completely different sound and feeling to it.
The video is made using a technique called rotoscoping. The entire action was filmed first, before drawing by hand over the frames. It took two artists 4 months to complete the video, which consists of 3,000 drawings.
A-ha is an amazing band. They have released 11 studio albums, the last, True North in October 2022. The members of the band are brilliant musicians and song writers who plays several instruments. The singer, Morten Harket has a wonderful voice, recognizable for all a-ha fans. Their music is incredible, full of soul and substance, and the songwriters are creative, so the music has taken on a new character over the years, but always with the familiar a-ha sound.
I recommend you listen to The sun always shines on TV, Stay on these roads, Manhattan Skyline, Summer moved on, Analogue, Cast in Steel, I'm In... I could go on and on, they have so many wonderful tunes.

One of the great songs of the 1980's and an absolutely huge hit for A-Ha. I still play this on the memory sticks I use in my car today. Thanks for the excellent reaction Cynthia!

how did they make it in the 80s? because music videos were a new medium and some people wanted them to be high quality works of art.

Hi Cynthia, you may be surprised to learn that this track actually bombed 3 TIMES before this successful Video version! The video itself took 10,000 seperate drawings and some 16 weeks to complete, alongside 'Queen's Bohemian Rhspsody' this song has been downloaded well over 1B times! 😜

That Take on me video is continued in another video by that same group A-ha of the song The Sun Always Shines on TV. If you want to find out what happened with that final story, watch the beginning of that video...

Hi and thanks for reacting to A-HA. In 1985 a trio of young men from Oslo, Norway asked the world to take on them. I took up that challenge and for 38 years I have been an A-HA fan and I’ve never regretted a second of it. A-HA have a huge back catalogue of music so I hope you’ll react to more of their music. A-HA are criminally underrated and unappreciated they are loved by many in the UK where I’m from and throughout Europe but not the US. The take on me video was made by a technique called rotescopy in which individual hand drawing are made and sequenced in with live action. The take on me video has 14,000 hand drawings in it and it took 6 months to create. A-HA have released 11 albums so there is plenty of their music to react to if you want too. Their last album was released last year in 2022 called true north. The keyboard riff in take on me was written by Magne Furuholmen A-HA’s keyboard player when he was 14 years old and in his first band along with A-HA’s guitar player and chief songwriter Paul Waaktaar-Savoy. The band was called Bridges. Take care and thanks again 😘 ❤️🇳🇴❤️A-HA FOREVER❤️🇳🇴❤️
