And 5 minutes away from the highest elevation you can drive in dfw, with a flyover ramp that let's you see the ft worth skyline Arlington stadium Irving downtown and a bit of dallas downtown
Good video dude. There's definitely an element of awesomeness when looking at the stacks. I live right by the 183/Toll45 stack in Austin and am still amazed at the pure size of it.
@CosmoPhotography Thanks, it was a fun video to make! Keep in mind the cost to build in Texas is cheaper , no unions. The High Five was $261 Million, the Springfield Interchange near DC was around $700 Million.
@Billabongs122988 I don't have exact counts but I believe Texas has more stack interchanges, Texas definitely has more 5-Level interchanges. Considering I have never been to California I can't answer which has wider roads,
@FreewayBrent Thanks, yeah, we went through Austin and San Antonio on the way to Corpus Christi. I was inspired but Friday's trip to NC, good to be back on the road even if it was a boring ride.
This was an impressive collaboration of highway stacks, even though it is a bit dated, do you recall how many days it took to drive and collect all of this video footage in order to compress and make this video? So far I believe Texas has the most phenomenal highway stacks that I have ever seen! I honestly must say (Great Video Jim=GVJ)!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, it was a collection of clips from different trips from 2007 to 2010, I had no intention of making this video at the time we got the footage. Don't sleep on California's stacks :)
Man I guess it's true when they say that everything is bigger in Texas lol. Those stacks are huge!!! It makes me want to take a road trip to Texas so bad!!! Thanks for the videos!
@MyMultimedia The 5th Level in Texas is for the frontage roads, look closely at the high five (first interchange in this video) the frontage roads is the 2nd level (US-75 being the 1st), I-635 the 3rd then the flyover ramps at 4th and 5th. In Los Angeles there is one 5 Level at I-105/I-110 with the 5th level being an HOV ramp.
@713dank I did not film every 5-level stack in Houston, I can realistically only use what I film, you know? I am from New England but have lived in Atlanta most of my life and I greatly prefer the way things are done in the south with regards to transportation.
If you are on the top stack of the High 5 you get a kick ass view of the Dallas skyline in the distance. New stacks: I-30 and SH-161 Between Dallas and Ft. Worth. And I-30 and Hwy 360 (under construction) in Arlington
Agreed on that point. Public transportation improvements should be made in conjunction with road building and not in place of it. And if there's not money for both - put it towards the roads exclusively.
Wow, this one was very unexpected, and not only because I thought you were taking a break through the remainder of 2010. I like the font you chose for your annotations in this one. Hey wait a minute, I didn't realize you went to Austin, too, lol.
Very nice editing! Didn't catch your edited Texas outline at 0:20 until I watched it a second time. Creative! The fonts and transitions were also very well chosen. I can't even begin to imagine how much all of that infrastructure costs to maintain and replace when it eventually ages. It seems as if Texas allocates a lot of money to their roadways. Wonder how the rest of the state is doing? :P Great job, Jim!
As usual, good stuff! You're gonna need to come back to Dallas soon though - there's gonna be some even NICER stacks on 75/121 and Dallas North Tollway/121 in the next year or so.
love your joy rides....but how many takes does it take(no pun) i never see you in backed up in traffic is there a favorite time of day or is this all editing...keep on truckin whoo hoo
@10251991JRH I did not film those interchanges. This video is not EVERY stack in Texas, heck I could do a video of just Houston stacks alone, and I did not film every one of them. Lets be realistic here.
@Freewayjim Well what about IH-10 East/BW 8 Northeast-Southeast interchange? And I got bigger news for you: US-90 east/BW 8 northeast-southeast interchange will be almost finished in a few years. The construction just got started building the roads last year.
May I ask what you do for a living Freewayjim? Considering you drive alot, but will often document multiple approaches for the stacks, I wouldn't think you're a truck driver (as that would be expensive and untimely for such an occupation).
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Just a by-product of a booming economy there. But just think of how much worse it would be had Texas decided not to make those investments in its infrastructure. Here in the DC area they are finally getting their act together and getting some much needed projects off the ground but these are things that should've been done 15-20 years ago and not today.
For some reason this video disgusts and amazes me at the same time--I might like freeways, but I don't believe in having only that. The major cities of Texas have been ripe for genuine mass transit systems for a long while, and yet the transport authorities over there have not responded positively to that.
No, I did not "forget" El Paso, I just had not been there at the time of this video which means no footage (2010), I eventually got there in 2015-16 and have three videos from it on here.
@ScrewdUPClickV2 bsmack66 is right to some extent, the highways in the northeast are way under built for the growth they've seen in the last 40-50 years, at least Texas tries to fix the problem and keep up with demand rather than shuttling everyone off to public transportation.
These tangled up roads are a true piece of artwork
I agree!
Those interchanges are like a genuine tourist attraction. I have never seen any this big in Europe.
What a magnificent compilation, this is! It makes all the interchanges I have encountered so far so tiny.
There is only one 4 stack interchange in NC fortunately i live 30 minutes away from it
@@bridgediscovery1011 I live 2 minutes away from a decaying i-20 copy paste double t stack built in the 70s but it's getting a much needed rebuild
Thank you, Stacks are definitley awesome and underappreciated works of architecture.
The state of Texas is famous for their interchanges and stacks.
California could use a few of these... traffic is HORRIBLE, and needlessly...
Jesse Bains i can confirm those stacks are a waste
Andrew Rattle why
@@asrr62 How are they a waste? they help get traffic through easier, where ever you live they prob don't have the money to build those.
@@TheOpinionSports Exactly. Someone is butthurt lmao
What's neat is that the stacks have increased significantly in number since this video was released.
No El Paso spaghetti bowl? Wanted to see it.... At least to feel a little recognized lol. They were all cool stacks though
I just got back from El Paso and they have a ton of stacks now and still building far east and west.
As they say, everything's bigger in Texas! (Even the overpasses)
I love the Dallas stacks
Freeways in Texas should be a role model for the rest of the country.
@CosmoPhotography Thanks, it was a fun video to make! Keep in mind the cost to build in Texas is cheaper , no unions. The High Five was $261 Million, the Springfield Interchange near DC was around $700 Million.
Great music here too
Thanks!
texas does seem to have alot of stack interchanges. I don't think we have any in minnesota.
There’s a few but not level 5’s
This video is 10 years old! You had a good dashboard camera back then. Thanks for the ride
Thanks, I never used a Dashcam, I use a Sony camcorder for all of my videos (three different models since the channel started).
@@Freewayjim Nice work.I need to visit that country, the only problem I have is invitation
@@bazukamimi5721 Thanks.
@Billabongs122988 I don't have exact counts but I believe Texas has more stack interchanges, Texas definitely has more 5-Level interchanges. Considering I have never been to California I can't answer which has wider roads,
@Billabongs122988
Texas often has frontage roads whilst Cali has collector/distributor systems.
Wow. Texas has a lot of four level stacks. Very nice video, Jim!
Thanks, and there are many more since this video was made.
...mind boggling - great compilation - fav'd...
This is a great video! I love how you managed to make the ramps go with the music rythm at 4:00 :D
My favourite is the one at 3:02. Cheers from Italy!
@FreewayBrent Thanks, yeah, we went through Austin and San Antonio on the way to Corpus Christi. I was inspired but Friday's trip to NC, good to be back on the road even if it was a boring ride.
Man, those are some big freeways, wish we could get some of those in Minnesota! Nice work.

You drove right near my house in this video lol I live off 59 and 610 in Houston
We're soon going to have a second stack in Shreveport, La.
Miss one exit and you end up on Mars 😂
Cool video though, we need some of these in CA
@713dank I did not film every 5-level stack in Houston, I can realistically only use what I film, you know? I am from New England but have lived in Atlanta most of my life and I greatly prefer the way things are done in the south with regards to transportation.
Llkjjmkkk
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! EPIC STACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great take on the stacks of my state!
Thanks!
@LucidRealityChild: Thank you! Most of these are in the larger metro areas although there is a 4-Level stack in El Paso on I-10.
If you are on the top stack of the High 5 you get a kick ass view of the Dallas skyline in the distance.
New stacks: I-30 and SH-161 Between Dallas and Ft. Worth.
And I-30 and Hwy 360 (under construction) in Arlington
this is prolly the coolest video ever i love my home state
Agreed on that point. Public transportation improvements should be made in conjunction with road building and not in place of it. And if there's not money for both - put it towards the roads exclusively.
Whoa, I saw a Prius! I didn't think I'd see one down there in Texas.
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Thanks!
@Trekker1801 Thanks, The frontage roads are the 5th level, train tracks did not count.
@ashvegas1018 Glad you liked it, thanks for watching.
They are redoing that canyon thingy around downtown Dallas. That will make a good video.
@willubhave Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :)
ive been on all the Houston highways here great Vid Freeway Jim ---
You forgot US-59 SW & BW 8 SW interchange stack level. The bridge had orange pant on there.
@aswchris Thanks, too bad I had to leave a few out.
Wow, this one was very unexpected, and not only because I thought you were taking a break through the remainder of 2010. I like the font you chose for your annotations in this one.
Hey wait a minute, I didn't realize you went to Austin, too, lol.
@jenzeppelin Thank you very much! I've never heard of that software you mentioned. I use Final Cut Express 4 for the Mac
They even have a few smaller ones in Waco, Lubbock, Laredo & The Rio Grande Valley
Nice!. I made a few tunnelcompilations for Dutch roadtunnels a weeks ago
Spectacular video..!The brilliant song *.Ghost Riders in the Sky
Stacks, those are my favorite interchanges! Freewayjim, can you make the stacks of my state, Michigan?
Seems like those interchanges are way higher in Texas than the ones in California
Very nice video ,Freewayjim ! Impressive freeways ! Vive le Texas !
Amazing footage from Stackxas!
@VHM072010 Thanks!
@TailsPrower88 Thanks, I'm glad you noticed :)
@LondonUnderground186 Thanks and Merry Christmas to you.

@RCtennis3811 Thanks, yes that would be nice to see.
@FreewayAndrew Indeed, best I've ever seen.
That's some nice stacks!

@FreewayTitan Thanks, I did not leave I-35 through Austin so I did not film the one you mentioned.
@Freewayjim that makes sense since Texas don't have earthquake warnings. Merry Christmas and hope to see again plenty of great vids in 2011 :)
@GeoffJennyOliver Thank you!
@SirKyanite Thanks.
Hey I have a question does Texas edge out Cali in terms of stack interchanges in freeways? Cali has wider road right?. Nice vid!.
@LondonUnderground186 With the exception of I-105 @ I-110, they are.
@eluko79 Thank you, and thanks again for turning me on to that song.
"Ghost Riders" in the sky by Spiderbait, it was in the closing credits :)
No, I just do this on vacations and joyrides.
@10251991JRH I did not film those interchanges. This video is not EVERY stack in Texas, heck I could do a video of just Houston stacks alone, and I did not film every one of them. Lets be realistic here.
Dallas and Houston look great. Austin looks bigger than it really is.
the best video !!
@10251991JRH That interchange is in the video, it's the first one from Houston shown.
A video of the stacks of Texas? Can you make a video of another set of stacks, this time in my state, Michigan?
Henry Miller Sorry not going to Michigan anytime soon.
Do a road trip to Canada!
@Freewayjim Well what about IH-10 East/BW 8 Northeast-Southeast interchange? And I got bigger news for you: US-90 east/BW 8 northeast-southeast interchange will be almost finished in a few years. The construction just got started building the roads last year.
@TailsPrower88 Thanks, same to you!
It is not a stack, but the bridge over the ocean channel which I think is on 610, Houston is impressive.
@bmbsage Thank you!
@omiks3 I did not go to El Paso, that video in now way represents ALL the stacks in Texas.
May I ask what you do for a living Freewayjim? Considering you drive alot, but will often document multiple approaches for the stacks, I wouldn't think you're a truck driver (as that would be expensive and untimely for such an occupation).
@ScrewdUPClickV2 LOL, thanks. I had to leave some out to be honest, and yeah every stack in the state would be wayyyy too long for RUclips.
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Just a by-product of a booming economy there. But just think of how much worse it would be had Texas decided not to make those investments in its infrastructure. Houston is the star of Texas...their freeway systems is unmatched.....Dallas to me seems small in comparison
For some reason this video disgusts and amazes me at the same time--I might like freeways, but I don't believe in having only that.
