Holy hell, this is confusing as eff! Engineering marvel for sure! Can't imagine the foresight, vision, and planning that went into this! Great presentation!

This was a great, in-depth video on the High Five. Many, many times better than the parclo interchange it replaced. I can still remember the awful exit ramp from EB 635 to NB 75.

Man there’s nothing like driving Dallas highways. I love driving the ramps to get onto highways, it’s more exhilarating than almost anything in life. Just hitting the gas and hoping for the best when you get on.😂

California reigned King of Interchanges until the last 10 years when TX took the throne! California has more scenic beauty but Texas has a much better political, economic and social environment. I wish I lived in TX.

This is what I call one kickass interchange, I went to Dallas in fall of '06 but unfortunately never got to see the high five.It simply makes every other 5-stack look like child's play.Awesome video man and keep 'em coming!!!

That's an epic interchange, especially from the frontage roads. This is just interesting infrastructure and TXDOT really did a fantastic job on the interchange ramps, frontage roads, and HOV lanes. This is just AMAZING. I just need to go down there and film Texas, even though I'll not go that way this year. Impressive work, well done.

  • @FreewayBrent

@Crocfan20: lol, I have to agree with you. The only interchange that really comes close to this is the I-105/I-110 interchange in Los Angeles (I live nearby it), but I think the "High 5" has the edge, thanks to the better aesthetics.

    Screwd,
You need to put ALL your High Five footage together into a coherent package, PLUS track down the engineers and the constructions workers involved in the project so you can do some on-camera interviews -- then send it into the Discovery Channel's Build it Bigger producers!

I travel on the High Five several times a week. TxDOT should NOT be proud of this engineering and I hope it is NEVER duplicated anywhere else in Texas or the world. There is NEVER a time when traffic isn't backed up to get from one freeway to the other, going in any direction, even when traffic is light. I don't know what creates this back-up. It could be the long ramps or the curve of the ramps, that slows down traffic, or some other cause. In addition, the curve of the ramps and the narrowness of the ramps creates a driving hazard, especially for trucks. There has to be another way!

there's basically just too much traffic. Having more extensive light rail and freight rail networks can take a lot of vehicles off the roads (check out cities like Vienna, Amsterdam and even Tokyo-Yokohama to see examples of functional traffic planning)

114 California companies moved to Texas in last 24months. Largest State for growth. Dallas, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio are all top 10 growth US. Austin just named best city in the US for Job Growth, consistently named one of the best places to live, has been number one (Forbes) Austin of the fittest cities in the world, Dallas and Houston lead in fine arts and museums, (More Art Galleries: NYC or Houston=Houston? I didnt know either. Dallas is world class IMO, Austin 1.8mill smaller feel

Great video, but NYC area has only the Bruckner Interchange as it's tallest interchange. To me NYSDOT and NJDOT must adapt Txdot or Caltrans urban freeway architecture because most NY/NJ urban freeways are only 6 lanes in each direction, but Dallas and Los Angeles urban freeways have 10-12 lanes in each direction due to the carpool lanes as the 6th or the 5th lane along with the 4 general lanes.

I wish someone did similar tours of other interchanges in the places like NYC, NJ, LA; there are some really interesting ones there, not necessarily the Texas scale but intricate in their own way. After all, you do go to other states too, don't you?

it's cool how dallas improved in the 90s and got better. and keeps being awesome.
Houston in the other hand got better in the 90s but it's screwing itself up now cos its engineers don't seem have common sense anymore.

I met some random Kansas City girls at a bar in Dallas. They were getting a cab to their hotel near the high 5. They didn't know this impressive structure. 5 girls total crammed into my single cab racing pickup. I hit the ramps with my supercharger whining. Think they were half awe and half fear😀

That's me. I'm people. Just moved here last year and am very afraid of those interchanges. I've never been so scared to drive anywhere and I have no idea how long it will take me to get over it. They HAD to know that these roads would be terrifying to some people - especially with them being just 1 lanes.
