Dude, you fucking RIPPED! You, in this video, are even better than most of the guys who skate these days! You had some style going, and despite the sloppy editing, I'm pretty sure that someone out there at the time would've hooked you up with a sponsor. Just look at all those 360 flips on that chunky board, given the time. Holy crap! I was loving the oldschool airs there, too. Brilliant! Just too bad that people these days don't even do half of that stuff anymore. Boring people. :P
Tombi The Gamershark Yeah, he could of easily gotten sponsored but back then the only way you could get sponsored was if you lived in Cali. There wasn't really and East Coast scene until the mid 90's
I didnt read the description til the point in the did when I saw the Appleton park. IM 37, we used to go there all the time when I was a kid. Had a Cab "ban this" deck, gullwings, vision clothes, I miss is bad! The Bones brigade documentary almost had me in tears. Good skatin bro. Thumbs up.
sick video ben! i cannot believe i saw you doing 360 shuvs and treflips in 1989. damn! you were better than the pros! i hope you are still skating even though you may be around 42 years old. there are skaters in their fifties still rippin it up. you were ahead of the time. i would definitely say this was from 1989 looking at the shoes and board. thanks so much for posting this. skate or die dude!
I am getting back into skateboarding this summer.Just turned 42.Good stuff from bitd!PS,Check out some recent Jay Adams interviews.[2010].They are good, especially since he is older like me.Maybe you will pick it up again also.Later Skater.
Awesome!! I skated a little park yesterday.Got to start slow.I keep it old school.Never too much with all the flip tricks.Been going through a lot of stuff lately. When i get on the board, all that shit is forgotten.Forget a "Antidepressant"!! Go skate.Good for mind body and soul.Skate for fun man!! Peace.
I've been skateboarding since 1986. I still skate today. In 1989, I would have been 15. This footage is spot on with what was going on in '89/90. You had a HUGE bag of tricks. I think you could have easily gotten hooked up with at least a smaller company. I enjoyed the vid. Thanks for posting.
Dude, you're probably my age. 1989 was my skating prime days too... and I certainly appreciate our dress sense those days! I like them high top airwalks!
I love the video! This was my prime skating years. I had no idea where you were from, but then I saw Rotation Station! I’m from Chicago and used to go there. I miss those days!
I use to skate in my basement a lot but all I had was a cement cylinder block to ollie over. man how dope was your life. I am so going to build a skatepark in my basement when I get my first house.
You were definitely good enough to be sponsored at that time. You were damn good for the late 80's. Would even be better than 90% of the kids at my skatepark today lol. Man sure wish I still had my old video from '00/ '01.
reminds me alot of my skating back in the day.(all day every day, ,all night every night) all the same tricks, same style. Has a mike vallely style in some ways. dope video!!
Skated from 88 to 04. You were sick man. It looks more like 1990 even approaching 91. Just going by the clothes, shoes, did I see airwalk pyros. Also the tricks. Everything I mentioned changed so fast. The look and tricks would evolve so the beginning of say 1990 looked different to the end. Some looks 89, some 90. Could have been me and my friends lol. I got loads of good footage in 90s, like really good, and others in Liverpool England. But the friend who had tapes wouldn't give me copies at the time. I think he was jealous and thought I may put sponsor me tape together. Stupid really coz he had great footage too. Even in later years when I bumped into him, he was cagey about it. I did manage to get 2 to 3 mins off him but he didn't give me the really good footage. Very average so I never show anyone. Although at 46 and bad injuries it's better than nothing. I wish I could skate now with all tricks acceptable and not subject to trick fashions
Sweet video. I didnt think I was gonna watch the whole thing but I did. Man boards were so heavy back then haha. That 360 ollie off the concrete ledge at the school was awesome.
Yea, it was exactly the time when I started to skate as an 8 years old boy. We didn t know anything about skateboarding in our small village in Germany, where we grew up. Just Ollies and 180s - hahaha. Would have been great to have guys like you in town!!! You were rocking in this time - wow!!!
Good stuff man. I grew up skating during the 80s too. Just got an old school setup a few months ago and can't stop skating now even though i'm just over 40 years old. I can't believe I ever stopped. in my opinion, the 2 things the 80s got right were street skating and hardcore punk.
207 thousand views lol , rock on brodinskie , rad video. basement stuff is the best ,. I knew I guy when I was a kid with a small half pipe in his basement when you dropped in you had to watch your head hight.
yes! that was insane! boardslide to 50-50...i've never seen that before. mad props for the nosegrab 360. and the bs 360. amazing stuff. haha nice ollie nose mannys
Wow this vid takes me back. I'm 32 now, so I was roughly the same age as you back then, and I was doing the exact same thing... SKATING. Mind you, I wasn't nearly as good. Some nice tricks in there man, Cheers!
I hope this isn't one of those guys who at some point in his life, he grew up he decided to get "real job" and never touched a skateboard again ever since. I know some of my friend who is like that, and I think that's really sad..you should keep skatin no matter what, man.
+sahalanimation i never understood that mentality , you dont have to skate every day but im 24 and work and skateboard whenever i can. its almost as if some people all of a sudden become afraid of it.
I think you had great potential to get sponsored bro,I really like your change ups from one trick to another on the curbs man...really makes me motivated
Wow, seeing old home videos is so nostalgic, even though I don't know this guy and probably live on the other side of the country. Good stuff. You were much better than me back then (though, I didn't really start until late 1990, having just cruised for five years). As was pointed out, going faster might have made a difference in sponsorship, especially back then. But he certainly had enough tricks in his bag.
Deck not from 89? What are you talking about? Indy stage 7 trucks, even has old school side rails! Can't get a good look of board graphics but that hammerhead says 89 all day!!
Hell yeah bro!! Backside lipslides and handrails in 89!! Great tech tricks too, railslide to grinds, love it!! Good video from the year I started!! Still skate??
this video is way better then newschool skateboarding in oakville ontario in the 80's was just like this video but i got no footage from the 80's of my skateboarding
Sweet times. We used to go to a place called meanwhile gardens round the corner from where we lived in th 80's. I reckon I'm a year or two younger than yourself and was never the best skateboarder. But had a lot of fun trying. We used to go some place called " slam city skates". All vision stuff.
you could have been on HSTREET, haha. Oh that rental cop at the beginning is classic. Same story across America in the 90's. I thought I told you punks to leave.
judging by board shape, more like 90 or early '91. he also has bridge bolts which were really popular in '90. BTW, there were many skateparks in the 70s and 80s: Pipeline, McGills, Del Mar... 360 kickflips (tre flips) came out around '88. FYI
Dude this video is the shit. I want to start skating again. My friends and I used to make tapes like this all the time with the big huge VHS camcorder. This guy could have been sponsored maybe for a local team but there was a lot of guys that were this good or better. I started really skating a lot around 1990 and my friends were into doing ollie impossible like it was nothing and triple kickflips.
Old school tricks were all still in originality, The Old school power slide introduced what we now call a Bert slide, hands on floor twisting board in a powerslide, now we dont even teach the ground with our hands to do a power slide, they did most of there tricks with hands, and all of them were popular for going high speeds surfing the Pavement.
@hatsdontfit Sweet thats a nice looking board! I want the green vision gator old school deck, the reissue vision boards are so nice! How much are you paying for yours and what site are you getting it off?
So many good skaters back then, and it was hard to get sponsored in the late eighties and nineties, reason being you had to enter contests and place in the top 3 or 4.. sometimes local shops would sponsor you but still needed to enter contest
You were good! You would have been a good regional amateur in 89, that ollie north was crackin at that time. In my NE PA scene in 1989 you would be maybe top three of about 30 street skaters. Flow is kinda stiff, muscular style, trucks kinda tight I'm guessing. I was good, but you were probably a little better, more technical. There was always about two guys better than me in the local scene. You were very slow and style too rigid. Also looks like you were stuck in a dead place like I was, so no exposure to diverse spots and more cutting edge skaters. Your pop was good for the time, really good. Sponsored? Yes, like I was - Skate Rags, maybe a shop sponsor, wheels at the most. This was cool to watch, 89 was the year I was in the thick of it.
luv the hi-tops !! all the OG oshkosh park and Tulula park footy. did you still sk8 at the oshkosh park in the mid 90's? nice historical retrospective.
It looks more like 91-92 judging by the board shape and style. which deck were you riding Ben? If this was really 89 you were ahead of the time. Anyway still fantastic skills. timeless I think
This was a cool vid. As others have said, brings back a lot of memories. Do you still skate? I'd love to see some current footage as well. I took some time off between 93-98 however started up again and skating better than ever. take care.
Ahaha it's exactly like new videos now ahaha cops and everything
SomeThingElseYT HOLY CRAP! I didn't expect to see you here, love your vids man!
Woa dude do you skate?? Also love your vids
No idea that something else yt would skate or let alone watch a skateboard video and if you do skateboard that'd be a nice video
I wonder why you’re here?
Wait you skate!?!??
Dude, you fucking RIPPED!
You, in this video, are even better than most of the guys who skate these days!

It's good skating. Not pro level for 1989 but very strong.
Super pro level
damn, you skate better than most of the street pros at that time
I am getting back into skateboarding this summer.Just turned 42.Good stuff from bitd!PS,Check out some recent Jay Adams interviews.[2010].They are good, especially since he is older like me.Maybe you will pick it up again also.Later Skater.

Awesome!! I skated a little park yesterday.Got to start slow.I keep it old school.Never too much with all the flip tricks.Been going through a lot of stuff lately. When i get on the board, all that shit is forgotten.Forget a "Antidepressant"!! Style. This is style, kids. Watch and learn.
Dude, you're probably my age. 1989 was my skating prime days too... and I certainly appreciate our dress sense those days!
I like them high top airwalks!
I miss seeing the low quality of 90s ;( damn and those old skating shoes look awesome 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I love the video! This was my prime skating years. I had no idea where you were from, but then I saw Rotation Station! I’m from Chicago and used to go there. I miss those days!
I would have sponsored you... Definitely killing it. The 360 flips were on point!!!
Ollies looked way cooler back then...
that's because the board shapes were different not all the same
bruh wdym?
Damn insane board control. That's crazy 360 shuvs all day. Crazy pop. Hope he still rides. 👍🤙
It's so awesome seeing someone who wasn't famous or pro skating well in the late 80s. Rare for sure.
I use to skate in my basement a lot but all I had was a cement cylinder block to ollie over. man how dope was your life. I am so going to build a skatepark in my basement when I get my first house.

I like this vid, ever since I saw it some 10 Years ago
Would be fun to see You skate now!
Good old days..
Skated from 88 to 04. You were sick man. It looks more like 1990 even approaching 91. Just going by the clothes, shoes, did I see airwalk pyros. Also the tricks. That 360 nose grab was boss!!
Airwalk 540s! Love this video! This video reminded of how I felt when I got those shoes! Such a sick video! This kid was ripping in 89!
You had a skatepark in your basement.I would be skating that all day every day 4 life.
almost 20 years now... man time flys... i don´t wanna get old man!!!
Anyone watching in 2019 ?
Totally rad man! I took my 80s skateboard to a skate ramp a few years ago and everybody thought it was so cool. Everybody wanted to ride it.
Congrats ! Especially considering heavy board of that times - this makes your evolutions even more modern an avant-garde in that era.
Sweet video. I didnt think I was gonna watch the whole thing but I did. Man boards were so heavy back then haha. That 360 ollie off the concrete ledge at the school was awesome.
wicked video!! I haven't skated in about 10 years and just got a board can't wait to go out!!
Nice video, brings back memories. I don't know about sponsored (probably not), but I'll bet you were known as a really good local.
This is awesome.
So much nostalgia. You were killin it man.
You shredded brother. Hope you and your family are safe. You had some quick ass feet, your switching in stuff during grinds was ridiculous
Good stuff man. I grew up skating during the 80s too. Just got an old school setup a few months ago and can't stop skating now even though i'm just over 40 years old. I can't believe I ever stopped. in my opinion, the 2 things the 80s got right were street skating and hardcore punk.

+metal4life You must understand the mentality if you put Metal4Life as your screen name lol
Michael David Cilantro haha well i made this name in 2007 when i first made my account. i should have put metal&skate4life

@hatsdontfit Where did you order it from and what vision board did you get? :)
god damn your basement was amazing lol. and great spots. too bad you didnt get sponsored and go pro or something, you seemed good enough.
Sweet times. We used to go to a place called meanwhile gardens round the corner from where we lived in th 80's. I reckon I'm a year or two younger than yourself and was never the best skateboarder. But had a lot of fun trying. We used to go some place called " slam city skates". All vision stuff.
Great skating but I'm more impressed with a concrete park with street obtacles in 1989? Where was this?

Sweet video, you got skills to pay the bills
this stuff is awesom
you could have been on HSTREET, haha.
Oh that rental cop at the beginning is classic. Same story across America in the 90's. I thought I told you punks to leave.
Definitely worthy of sponsorship by late 80s standards! Nice, reminds me of early H-Street vids!
nice chops. You were ready for the 90's, ha ha. good shit
Nice skating. You were very technical for that time period!
I've never seen switch-ups on a skateboard -and you even rip with Reeboks on! Cool.
Now this is an old school youtube video too!
judging by board shape, more like 90 or early '91. he also has bridge bolts which were really popular in '90.
BTW, there were many skateparks in the 70s and 80s: Pipeline, McGills, Del Mar...
360 kickflips (tre flips) came out around '88. FYI

should've been sponsored, i wish i could skate in the 80's
HA!! those where the days....was this in Wisconsin? A couple of those spots look like ones I hit out there around '91.....
5:43 has the speed element i am talking about!
love the 360 shoves / impossibles and yes u should have DEFIANTLY got sponsored back then.
You were great!! I love ''amazing feet'' trick!! How is it called?
I like it a lot! :-) Makes me want to work on my ledge lip slides though.

This was cool to watch, 89 was the year I was in the thick of it.
luv the hi-tops !! all the OG oshkosh park and Tulula park footy. did you still sk8 at the oshkosh park in the mid 90's?

It looks more like 91-92 judging by the board shape and style. which deck were you riding Ben? If this was really 89 you were ahead of the time. Anyway still fantastic skills. timeless I think
wow, some of these tricks are pretty decent actually. especially for their time. Nice vid.
Nice skating. My last year of skating was 1990 when I broke my ankle.
Hey what was your setup back then?
I'll bet you were ALL about that New Deal video with Armando Barajas :)
great footage. That was a big-ass basement.
Sweet. Where did you grow up? I like the train in the beginning.... Good steady dedication to the craft. Props.
damn that huge curb is cool man you ripped that shit up
This was a cool vid. As others have said, brings back a lot of memories. Do you still skate? I'd love to see some current footage as well. I took some time off between 93-98 however started up again and skating better than ever. take care.
