I’ve always preferred Papa Nier more, plus Jamieson Price’s absolutely legendary voice makes the character so emotional. Seeing Emil, a little boy right around Yonah’s age, in danger and suffering probably invokes that fatherly instinct in him and I love it.
Honestly I wish more games did this, being able to play as both a young naive character growing up and a seasoned older character adds so much despite the small changes.
The way Papa Nier try to stay normal sayng Fuck off different from Brother who was shocked and say just r-right,this is the Age experience,Brother Nier dont know what to say in that moment, and dad rocks like FUCK OF THIS
i like how young nier is more soft spoken and soothing, while i like the father's grandeur, how his voice booms, and his slightly higher desperation in his tone. Personally, im glad we have both
@@dracopug Do I have to get the original game to play as the original Nier? Because I am seriously not vibing this young Nier. I was just about to get the game too.
@@leoncoben6983 unfortunately yea. But then again you can play as Father in the '15 nightmares' minigame. But if thays not much, Yoko Taro mentioned he might add a Father dlc. Its just rumor tho.
@@leoncoben6983 I get what you mean but Young Nier from the original Japanese release was and is the canon version of the character. I liked papa nier tho.
@@brandonshort9045 I just think the story makes more sense and is much more compelling with a father/daughter relationship. It just might be a personal opinion, but these type of stories usually are better with a parent/child dynamic. Nier's older, more grizzled, and has the feeling of life experiencing that he should have looking over his daughter. It's not to say that a sibling relationship can't make the story work either but I feel that the dialogue should change to reflect that then, because they say nearly the same exact thing with the same exact meaning and I just feel like it would've been so much better had it the two had different dialogues reflecting their ages and I feel the current fits better for an older man.
Nier(Father) is voiced by Jamieson Price I hear Tobirama Senju from Naruto. Nier (Adult Brother) is voiced by Ray Chase I hear Tengen Uzui from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Brother Nier is definitely the better character, alot of these interactions just feel off for a whole ass man. I love Gestalt and Papa Nier's voice and design but it just felt... Kinda weird how the other characters are so much younger. I think Brother Nier is how it's supposed to be. That said, the remaster having both options would have been amazing and I'd have played through both, as I platinumed it and it's probably the game to have the most influence on me as a person.
The relationship with Yona definitely hits harder as her father In Gestalt. But otherwise i agree, the whole "shonen anime hero boy gone terribly wrong" Brother Neir fits better in every other facet.
@@brandonshort9045disagree, an older brother without parents it's basically the father of the younger sibling, but ot males more sense cause brother Nier was as vulnerable as yonah cause the things he had to endure to both surviving, his reckless and still inocent Nature shows in The way he interacts with new people and how little prejudice he has to outcast, just like a kid meeting new Friends, (theres some lore of the brother Nier that shows the kond of things he had to do to take care of yonah, and it's not pretty to Say the least, and a Lot of those things make sense more as a Young kid)
I think the idea of Papa Nier is more unique to a story but I don’t think it necessarily works better. Also he doesn’t exist earnestly: they only made Papa Nier because Yoko Taro or someone at Square, I forget who, thought that Xbox players would only want to play as a grizzled old man
They both definitely set the right mood for each characters self.
I like how the difference between father NieR and brother is in their reaction to emil calling them cool.
Gestalt is my favorite. Plus, the baddass old-man made the main 4 cast look more unique as a whole.

I love how Father Nier says "Knock it off" right after Emil said he looked pretty cool. Just makes it funny that he even agrees with Kaine on that.
I absolutely love ray chase so honestly I'm biased when it comes to brother nier (adult specifically). But papa nier is awesome too.
i prefer Gestalt. Aside from just liking his look more there's olso more emotion in his voice

Automata really just feels like an anime coomer game compared to this
Gestalt better character and voice actor easily also better concept and design.
Totally disagree tbh
Papa Nier will always be the best one.
Sorry but Nier Replicant having a protagonist as a twink with perfect hair takes me out of the game lol
