    I realize I should have mentioned this in the video, because it clearly isn't obvious:
    Janick DID NOT pull this part out of his @$$ - it's in the original recording of the song. It sounds like it might have been played on a guitar synth, but it's definitely there. There is actually a fair bit of layering like this on the Somewhere In Time album, probably why I like it so much! 😊

      Yeah this suddenly came to my head before the sleep, so I checked it in the morning. The synth part is on the edge of being audible in the original mix, so I can't tell if Jan is playing exactly the same pattern, but surely he is doing something the similar.

    Hah, awesome and so true about 'mix-grade' guitar sound.
    It is so very important that the mixing engineer fits each musicians sound into the narrow bandwidth spectrum that humans hear.
    Instruments that cross into each others bandwidth with either diminishes (mutes) or accentuate (makes louder) and that is undesirable.
    Live mixing is a skill that most musicians forget about. I've had to educate many fellow guitar players to stop using the scooped bedroom sound during rehearsals and start pushing more mids, otherwise they will fade in the mix (as a result turning UP their amp to compensate with little effect)

      @@LicksOfTheBeast NGL, for the longest time it was really difficult for me to try and figure out the rhythm guitar part during the solo on the studio version of the song, I think because of how overpowering the solo itself is, and how loud in the mix it sounds (plus the bass is also doing its regular embellishments).
      What I've come to understand while listening to that section a gazillion times, the rhythm plays like a mixture between what Dave and Janick are doing here.
      It'd be really cool if you could make a video where you explain in detail that particular rhythm guitar section, to clear out any lingering doubts.

I recorded my bands gig recently, and the go pro (placed at the mixing deak straight down from the middle of the stage) mic picked up the frequencies from my amp really good while the other guitar player’s guitar was barely audible. From other videos of the same gig it is much more even in balance.

    This seems to be a thing Janick does on a lot of songs - live and on records - you can really hear it on The Red and the Black. He'll play an arpeggiated line under Adrian's solo. Sometimes it is a bit distracting... but at least it's better than when he would double Adrian's solo like he used to do on some of the earlier live videos of Wasted Years. That sounded terrible to me since their soloing styles are so different.

    • @LicksOfTheBeast
      @LicksOfTheBeast  2 дня назад

      I don't like those parts either. The solo on Isle of Avalon gets very messy due to that kind of thing.

      Again, as I said, anyone who is choosing to be in the front row does it at cost of having the compromised sound ( even if the entire band is using in-ears). Anyway it is just one of many incoveniences and risks of beeing in a front row.

    una cosa che non ho capito è cosa sono le casse monitor? quelle davanti alla band da cui ad esempio il chitarrista può ascoltare gli altri musicisti (es batterista ecc)? Oppure sono le casse appese nella sala da cui asclta il pubblico? Perchè ho notato che anche stare vicini alle casse per pubblico, diciamo, si sente peggio che stare lontani. A me pare che la migliore acustica si ha dove si comincia a vedere meno il palco: paradossalmente tutte le volte che a vedere i maiden sono stato nel pit si vedeva ovviamnete meglio in quanto più vicino al palco però si sentiva molto peggio

      Le casse monitor sono quelle davanti alla band - oltre a servire da poggiapiedi servono anche ad ascoltare il proprio strumento o il mix che uno preferisce (io voglio anche sentire l'altra chitarra, la voce, e un po' di basso) 😊
      Ed hai ragione: il sound è sempre migliore un po' più lontano dal palco. Davanti ci si va più per l'esperienza e per vedere la band da vicino.
