Man, Adrian really can't catch a break on this one. Whether it's Bruce talking or Janick playing, this majestic of a solo must be played with no interruptions. All fans deserve to listen clearly to it, and the band should respect that. You'll never see Adrian nor Dave playing over Janicks solos on Blood Brothers, for instance.
Janick always fuck up the old maiden songs like 11:58 solo, I fucking tired of hear him playing over adrian solos, he is way below Adrian and Dave level
Especially with regard to Bruce yapping over some of Adrian’s solos I agree with this comment. This is such a beautiful solo, there’s no need for theatrics and verbalizations during the brief period of time which it is performed. For me, it’s the same deal when there’s a video of a performance and instead of showing the person playing the solo they’re showing another member of the band just messing around.
@@JuanPiVlokWhy don't you go and listen to the live version maiden released not so long ago....Janick is doing it there but it sits perfectly in the background. Stop being such a buthurt dweeb
I bet it sounded a bit better live than through a shitty phone mic. It's why I don't watch shows filmed by fans, just not good. Ive seen them live up front and it all sounds full and killer when you're there.
Very true. I recorded my bands gig recently, and the go pro (placed at the mixing deak straight down from the middle of the stage) mic picked up the frequencies from my amp really good while the other guitar player’s guitar was barely audible. From other videos of the same gig it is much more even in balance.
I don't watch them because I don't want to encourage them. If I pay hundreds to see a band play live I don't want a bunch of ultra bright screens in my way. The sole exception to this is Chappell Roan's band playing Barracuda earlier this week, they fkn slayed it
This seems to be a thing Janick does on a lot of songs - live and on records - you can really hear it on The Red and the Black. He'll play an arpeggiated line under Adrian's solo. Sometimes it is a bit distracting... but at least it's better than when he would double Adrian's solo like he used to do on some of the earlier live videos of Wasted Years. That sounded terrible to me since their soloing styles are so different.
I don't like those parts either. The solo on Isle of Avalon gets very messy due to that kind of thing. This isn't an example of that, however, as it's just a layer behind the chords - you can hear it on the original recording as well.
Sigh, I'm really saddened that I'll be missing them tonight in Los Angeles but tickets are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. I've been waiting months and they've only gone up. I REALLY wanted to hear them play material from Somewhere in Time live :(
Next time if that is an issue check out shows in San Diego. I had the same problem and decided, screw it, I'm driving 3 hours to see Iron Maiden. The drive wasn't that bad, and there was no fee for parking at the North Island Amphitheater. And the view was way better than The Forum.
So what? It’s a melody part which makes up a part of the song. Obviously, it’s not a mixed audio, so it may sound “odd” to some - sounds like a perfectly in tune melody line to me … after all, isn’t that what classic Maiden tracks are all about ?
Do people really not understand that where the guy recording is standing, especially when that close, is going to make a massive difference? Janick rules!
They are $600 because the show is basically sold out (and has been for months). The only tickets left are re-sales and a couple dozen platinum tickets they held back until a couple weeks ago. You should have picked tickets up a year ago when they went on sale. I paid about $130 for mine, which is about average for half decent seats for a big name act.
Can we talk about Steve? I just saw them in L.A. and i felt the bass needed to be louder. I couldn't really hear him stand out when he goes higher or does some fills. Feels like he is playing subdued now. On the slow bass lines with melodies, he sounded fine , but i just feel like he wasn't standing out. At least not to me. Anyone else feel this way?
This is exactly why the trio is my favorite instead of either duo. Also, Dave and Janick’s chemistry is just as good as Adrian’s. When it was just them two, they were so energetic and happy looking. Of course we still see it from Dave but not as much as before, he seems like a bit of a mediator between energy and calm.
I don't know what the issue people have with this and Janick is, if you listen to the official live from last year, it sits really well in the mix and adds a tiny bit of flavor to an otherwise bland rhythm. Janick may have his moments when he does something crazy shreddy and weird, but he's an amazing songwriter and player. Also thanks for the vid! I never noticed this part before and I actually think its better than the original. Can't wait to see it live TOMORROW!!!!!!
Yeah... It's like you pointed out, front row it's never a good spot to catch the best sound mix. I alway find his sound "harsh", and lacking definition when compared to Dave's and Adrian's, especially during rhythm, and as a "first rows" type guy, that like to be as close as possible to hai favourite band, and huge that's why i always go to the other side. Not a Jannick "hater", it's just a matter of preference on my part, bu i do have to highlit his "lead" on ending of this song live.
Have you ever played on stage with a loud PA? If the backline would be enough for that, the monitors would not be invented at all :) Also, loud enough backline would override the main mix for the guys in the front row the very same way.
@@carbofos9979 I have played large stages. Dial your amp that you can hear yourself and ask other instruments/vocals to your monitor. That has been the basic rule from soundtechs. Of course this only applies if you are using real amps and not Nintendo's plugged to FOH.
@@VSL229 If your amp is loud enough to be heard up to the very edge of the stage, where the PA and reflections from the room come loudest, guess what? Anyone standing in the front row and in the audio beam of your backline is going to hear an added extra of you. It is inevitable. Again, as I said, anyone who is choosing to be in the front row does it at cost of having the compromised sound ( even if the entire band is using in-ears). Anyway it is just one of many incoveniences and risks of beeing in a front row. Oh, and I need to add that human ears and body are picking sound very different from the phone mic. The guys certainly had an extra of Janick, but how did they actually perceive that - this is a question.
@@VSL229 P.S. Maiden's soundman Ken "Pooch" Van Druten said in the interview that as all of three guitars are of similar tone (Strat + Marshall mostly) he needs to separate via the panning. So Jan's guitar is pretty far right and Dave is left (Adrian is obviously in the pan center). And only their solos are switched to the center, when the time comes. This adds to being too close to the stage.
Janick is messing around way too much and not focusing enough on his playing. Who cares if he can spin around like a ballerina or do splits on a monitor? He has good chops and cool musical ideas but I think his running around takes away more than it adds to the show.
I love Janick but personally I don’t like how he will take some of Adrian’s solos. Even when they both play at the same time. He has enough material with Maiden that Adrian doesn’t have the need to attempt to match Janick’s solo. That’s just my opinion
The C arpeggio should have a sharp 4th to stay in key (F# not F natural) If anyone knows Yanick please let him know. I am available for online lessons. 🤘
Honestly. I never liked Janic in Maiden. Why does he plays a solo on top of Adrian’s solos? Triads? Why not just the chords that go in the song? Does he always have to be present when Adrian is soloing by laying anything on top of an Adrian solo? His dances! Honestly I don’t hate the guy, I just see he wants the spot light, this dude belongs in a hair band, Motley Crue needs a guitarist! He can do his dance right there!!
I completely agree! Never cared for him! His dancing and always holding the guitar vertical playing just drives me crazy! Going to see them in November and I purposely got tickets on Adrian’s side of the stage just so it limits me seeing janic
Because triads are chords and because that's the kind of thing people do to add layers to parts. The Somewhere in Time album is full of stuff like that - including this song because what Janick is playing is just what's on the original version.
El problema de janick, es que siempre toca lo mismos solos o siempre tiene que hacer algo inspirado en blackmore, llega a ser cansador porque no varia mucho, hay solos muy buenos en los álbumes pero en vivo... Deja mucho que desear
There are not reason to be a copycat of Adrian. I prefer an original guitar player than a one who plays note by note trying to imitate another musician.
He didn't mess it up, it's part of the accompaniment on the album version 😅 As I mentioned in the video, it only sounds like it clashes a bit because you hear his guitar over everything else due to the recording taking place very close to his monitor.
What on earth is he doing, frankly, on any live Maiden track? Leaping about like a demented leprechaun, whipping his guitar with the cable and waving his hands over the neck like a bad magician at a kids' party.

Very cool ??? I wouldn't use the word "cool". To me the right word is "strange" like most of the things this guy does in Maiden. Janick seems to be a nice guy and he's not a bad guitar player. But he was clearly not the right choice for Maiden. And I still do believe that a 3rd guitarist was not a bad idea. It's just that Janick style and personality are not compatible with Maiden music. Roy Z or Faulkner for instance would have done a far superior job than Janick

As it is explained by Nico, Jan's guitar sits properly in the overall PA mix.
Janicks solos on Blood Brothers? As in plural?
Janick always fuck up the old maiden songs like 11:58 solo, I fucking tired of hear him playing over adrian solos, he is way below Adrian and Dave level
Did you forget that this band has rehearsed the songs and decide how they are gonna play each part of the songs?
Especially with regard to Bruce yapping over some of Adrian’s solos I agree with this comment. This is such a beautiful solo, there’s no need for theatrics and verbalizations during the brief period of time which it is performed.
For me, it’s the same deal when there’s a video of a performance and instead of showing the person playing the solo they’re showing another member of the band just messing around.
@@JuanPiVlokWhy don't you go and listen to the live version maiden released not so long ago....Janick is doing it there but it sits perfectly in the background.
Stop being such a buthurt dweeb
I always heard that as synth in the original. Loved that in the background. I always thought it was 2 long notes at a time not 3 in the studio tho
I would have to listen to it carefully but yeah, it's possible he changed the pattern a tad. 🙂
“And I guess Janick’s guitar is plugged in after all”. 😂😂😂😂. Way to end the video!
Actually the tone from your monitor was pretty good.
That’s why you have to buy your tickets asap.
Janick best composers
The Talisman live has something similar, however, its not on the studio version at about 4 : 58, but it sounds awesome.
Janick going for a Def Leppard style part - like it!
i'd love to see you live! please come to europe at some point!
Thank you so much!! I'd love to play there someday but unfortunately, we're not a touring band.
E to D to C you say?
So what? It’s a melody part which makes up a part of the song. Obviously, it’s not a mixed audio, so it may sound “odd” to some - sounds like a perfectly in tune melody line to me … after all, isn’t that what classic Maiden tracks are all about ?
Besides jumping around like a goofball?
he is so cringe
Simple, but so beautiful. Very Rory of him.
The way he plays it, yes!
Amazing
Do people really not understand that where the guy recording is standing, especially when that close, is going to make a massive difference? Janick rules!
he is being a stranger in a non strange band
It has been a nice touch from Janick to come up with this triad progression instead of playing the same chords with Dave.
It is a nice touch, indeed, but Jan didn't come up with it. It's in the original recording. 😊
Hey Nico...are you going to see them here in Toronto in a few weeks? I'd love to, but man, the tickets are about 600 at least!
Janick does (plays) something similar in Rock in Rio during the last chorus in Dream of Mirrors... I hope not to be wrong.
Show us your live gear.
I think it sounds good
We love Janick
Nice !!!
There's three guitars and it's gonna be harder for him to cut through. Specially on modern maiden songs where he just plays root note these days
🤘🤘🤘
One thing you never want..... Janick playing over Adrian !!!
Awesome! Enjoy the show and have a great time! 🤘🤘
@@LicksOfTheBeast Got First to the Barrier so it should be quite the experience!

You should dial your backline so that you hear yourself from there not from monitor.
Have you ever played on stage with a loud PA? If the backline would be enough for that, the monitors would not be invented at all :)
Also, loud enough backline would override the main mix for the guys in the front row the very same way.
@@carbofos9979 My amp is on my left side facing to center stage and 2-3 meters from me. People in front row wont hear a thing from it.
The real question is, why is Janick Gers still in the band?
Cause this ruclips.net/video/7KV56kwxiHg/видео.html
Janick is messing around way too much and not focusing enough on his playing. Who cares if he can spin around like a ballerina or do splits on a monitor? He has good chops and cool musical ideas but I think his running around takes away more than it adds to the show.
So you want someone that just stands there with zero energy.. what is wrong with people... So dumb
No thank you. This solo belongs to Adrian 100% Jannick can take bathroom break through it
Dude, what Jannick plays (very loud do to the close by monitor of the vid recording) is even on the original album. Maybe calibrate your ears 🤔😂
I love Janick but personally I don’t like how he will take some of Adrian’s solos. Even when they both play at the same time. He has enough material with Maiden that Adrian doesn’t have the need to attempt to match Janick’s solo. That’s just my opinion
Sweet Janick o mine
Yup. Same kinda thing.
The C arpeggio should have a sharp 4th to stay in key (F# not F natural) If anyone knows Yanick please let him know. I am available for online lessons. 🤘
@@MrUmandMrEr So borrowed chords, chromaticism, and accidentals aren't on the curriculum? 🤣
Going to see them in November and I purposely got tickets on Adrian’s side of the stage just so it limits me seeing janic
yeah...hate on a guy for having a great time playing music. wtf. Gers rules and he is beyond and motley crue guitarist. what a stupid take.
Because triads are chords and because that's the kind of thing people do to add layers to parts.
The Somewhere in Time album is full of stuff like that - including this song because what Janick is playing is just what's on the original version.

Roy Z or Faulkner for instance would have done a far superior job than Janick
no way...Gers is as much maiden as anyone else in the band. Adrian has been butchering his own solos this entire tour. Not that it's bad solos just not the originals and some waaay different. As it is explained by Nico, Jan's guitar sits properly in the overall PA mix. But those in the front row (as the guy who shot the video) are doomed to hear local monitors and/or backline overriding the main mix. I have nothing against devoted fans but the best place to enjoy live MUSIC is the zone near the soundman's booth - and NEVER a front row :) You have to chose either to see closer or to hear better.
