The voice actor for old Toph really did a fantastic job capturing the essence and vocal inflections of Toph. I think Sokka's voice actor, though he only appeared for a scene, did an excellent job too.

I was SO scared to see the subtitles turn on for this ep but so relieved when it didn't spoil Toph. Seeing her was such an joyful and emotional surprise
@@royalfun1031 You know how they show who's talking? So the subtitles showed like Toph: Feeling better? So the surprise was ruined because the subtitles already showed it was Toph.
Having suffered with PTSD myself, I sometimes still struggle with watching this episode. It's artistic interpretation, but god damn it's so raw. I see a lot of myself in Korra and I'm grateful for this show. Thank you guys for not subscribing to the hate and making it to book 4!
"Nice to see you again, Twinkletoes!" - This line alone will forever make me cry.. over and over again no matter how many years had passed. ugh straight to the heart.
There's a line in the episode where Zuko finds out about Roku's death where Toph asks if friendships can last more than one lifetime - in context it's about Roku and Gyatso being friends before Aang is born but because of this episode that line absolutely annihilates me every time I hear it.
my favorite part of this episode was probably the fact that it just felt like something straight from the writers, raw and unimpeded by Nick's influence. I mean no random jokes to keep the Spongebob audience engaged, no unecesary action sequences to keep the casual fanbase watching, just a story being told how the writers wanted it. And the story we get is dark, sometimes slower paced, and a bit confusing- and I loved every second of it.
I agree wholeheartedly. While Nickelodeon really put the creators and animators through hell, I think it’s the best thing that could’ve happened to the direction of the show for us to get the story that we did.
I left this episode for so many reasons but it also does recaps in such a nice way. By doing these letters through Korra's perspective, after showing us what it was like for them as if we had been following them the whole time, It's such a nice way to make us feel like we are korra as well. I also think one thing that none of the characters have told her that I think I would have tried, is to tell her "the world will always need its avatar, no matter what changes. Youre allowed to take a break, and let someone carry the burden for a while."
I feel all of them would have said that if they knew how Korra felt, especially Tenzin. At the end of the day, they were just trying to help her, but that help touched some sensitive wounds of hers.
I LOVE SO MUCH the "callbacks" that this episode has, like: Iroh and Zuko cutting theirs hairs and trowing into a river and so does Korra; The black eye on Korra and the shattered mirror and Zuko's scar; The fact that both Aang and Korra saw Toph for the first time in the swamp; I LOVE this little details
That dog should be sus from the very start. It was just a dog. No polarbear dog, no deer dog, no goat dog... just a dog. If you see an animal in that world and it's not an hybrid you should know something's up.
Its not only that korra has to rely on others. All 3 of those villains basically ptsd'd her into thinking and fearing the end of the avatar and the world not needing her anymore. And the air benders becoming nomads and bringing balance only made that harder
I am so glad Korra dealt with a lot of the trauma and PTSD this way. It was such a good representation and not glossing over what has happened in the past.
Im glad that this is the first reaction to point out that Korra and Asami developed their own genuin relationship. Even if it's not what their thinking at the end.
Not the show creators hitting us with the "wiggle your big toe" from kill bill 😂. They did an awesome job showcasing the difficulty of recovering from trauma. Might just be me, but Korra's rehabilitation from Zaheer has parallels with recovering from SA, and if that's intentional, it's handled really well, considering the main demographic it's aimed at
Why do so many people first think it's Hama?? She was like already in her 80's during the Atla episode, y'all think she's now 150+ chilling in the swamp like that? I know there have been 4 people shown to reach amazing age, but 3 were from the Earth Kingdom, and Aang froze himself in an Iceberg for 100 years. HAMA IS DEAD 😭😭
I think Zuko was important in season 3. Because of what uncle iroh said. About learning to help by using the people aang trust the most, since she no longer connected to her past lives. In this case zuko was supposed to be that guide becuase he would tell her what aang would have done.
So easy to tell who watched the series as it aired vs. who watched the series later...because I remember Nickelodeon themselves revealed Toph's appearance for us in the Book 4 trailer 😆😆 "i CaN'T bElIeVe iT...tOpH?"
People really have the audacity to say korra is a weak or bad avatar. Honestly id say she is better and stronger than aang. Like bro took on two of the most dangerous and deadly bloodbenders, had her bending taken from her, had her soul/spirit ripped from inside her and watched it destroyed, defeated a giant fucking demon, fought 4 of the most powerful benders in the world (zuko literally admitted himself together they could take down the world and individually could take down any bender) and fought their leader WHILE BEING POISONED, was poisoned by fucking mercury, broke both of her legs and was wheelchair bound, was asphyxiated, spent three years with poison still in her body, took on a giant platinum megazord 😂, and finally she made a literal giant FUCKING SPIRIT PORTAL....SHE CREATED A SPIRIT PORTAL!? Like naw man idc what anyone says korra os easily one of if not the strongest avatar and the avatar who has suffered the most and gone through the most shit lmao
I do feel bad for Korra however what they do with Korra’s PTSD and Trauma is all handled really badly and is only there to make us feel something for her but in truth I rarely do
@@ThatGuy80baby maybe how they healed her ptsd by asking the person who put her into that traumatic situation and being told to trust him which is something that no one would ever do
@@michaellancia45I know part of the message is about confronting your fears, and maybe her trusting him is her letting go of it? I do agree that trusting someone that has caused you trauma isn't necessarily the best approach, since that isn't advised if they have a pattern of hurting you, but maybe it could be related to someone that has had a terrible car accident and them getting behind the wheel again. There's a level of acceptance and trust there. Again, I know people are different, though
@@ThatGuy80baby at first they handle Korra’s trauma well enough but it seems like they only kept showing us her being tortured by the past and when It comes to healing her we later find out it’s bc she had Metal in her body and that’s why should couldn’t enter the avatar state not bc of her ptsd or mental trauma and then later she’s has to confront zaheer to cure her but no victim would ever go to their abuser and being told to trust them. And near then end it’s like Korra is back to 100% with no more ptsd or mental trauma which is not true you carry that with you always it doesn’t magically disappear and that’s what piss me off bc they try to handle this all grown up but it’s water down to a child perception of what trauma is and before anyone says “well this is a kids show of course they would dumb down ptsd and trauma” ATLA had the effects of war, abusive family, Genocide and other things and it was still handle like you were a adult; ATLA is a show made for Kids and Adults while Korra is made for kids and teens

Love that Toph can recognize the avatar regardless of their incarnation, probably because she never used sight to recognize people
