I created this video to spark a conversation that I hope will eventually lead to real accountability for food manufacturers and the ingredient choices they make. Even if change takes time, I take comfort in knowing that I’m doing my best for my family, and I’m sure you’re doing the same for yours.
Let's talk about this...I appreciate you!

I love this conversation! We refer to healthy foods as SLOW foods this is an easy way for my son to understand what is good for him. Proud mom moment I heard my son tell his grandma that chips are fast foods so he shouldn’t eat them or he won’t get big and strong. I think it starts with us as parents showing our kids what healthy looks like.

I think these 10-12 food companies that own pretty much every item in a store couldnt care less about our health. Its all about profit for them. They have the money to lobby for what goes on a label and how its worded on the label etc. It's very scary.
You touch on a good option, to grow your own food. I dont have the room except for a small square foot garden on the back patio, but I do grow herbs like you mentioned. I also love to can and make my own jam. I buy the ingredients at a local farmers market. It's so much better.
Thanks for the video and topic.

It is definitely scary but I do think that what was done to the big tobacco companies can and will be done to big food companies.
There are a lot of great hydroponic options out there as well for growing your own food if you don’t have a lot of space too. Maybe I’ll do a video on starting your own hydroponic garden?

@@BeergrYT I hope so, i think sugar is just as addictive as tobacco and has withdrawl symptoms, causes cancers to the body same as tobacco. Youre right that something needs to be done. In moderation i think its ok, but theres so much sugar in pretty much everything these days that is bought at the store. It's not just sugar though, as you say in the video, its all these artificial dyes and unnatural ingredients.
Hydroponics is a great option. I have some lights but need to make a stand for it. That would be a cool video.

I've seen people in farmer markets that buy stuff from grocery store put in boxes as if they got it from home and display it. Unfortunately, farmer markets are questionable now as well. It would be great if we have more rules and regulations on our food like the EU.

Thank you for making a video on this topic! Eating REAL food is so important for every person to feel their best so they can make good decisions for the physical, mental and financial health. It's so frustrating watching those around me suffer while they deny that it's the artificial food that's decaying their quality of life. Certainly the high price of food lately will push a change on that soon. I'm shocked by how much everyone else spends - eating healthy is so much cheaper now!!

Excellent video, my friend! If anything, I hope this helps people understand better, as well as aid them in making better choices. I know I make some pretty poor habit decisions and how I eat is definitely one I need watch, especially as someone who struggles with weight loss. Big food manufacturers ,like big business in general, just use delay, distract, and derail tactics to absolve themselves of any accountability. Eventually consumer pressure can force change as it has in the past. And while I am also hopeful that one day food manufacturers will be held accountable, I also realize that change is gradual and we need to do our best to make improvements ourselves. This video is just part of a really deep subject, but you do an excellent job of summing up issues, what we can do, and excellent alternatives. Thanks for sharing!
PS: Again you taunt me with the Flambadou!🤣

European Food standards may be higher but there is still a lot of problems. In order to get their food labled healthy, companies made up their own similar looking labels or they mix the organic product with lower quality ingredients in order to cut cost.
There is a good chance that a lot of italian extra vergine olive oils are not italian and mixed with low quality oil.
They also scam you be printing "Made in Italy" on their canned tomatoes wich just means it was packed in Italy and the tomatoes actually come from China or somewhere else. Consumer protection organisations have been pushing for that to change but so far there is no progress.

Finally someone speaks up. I've been telling people in my surrounding we (as a society) do have an option to hurt those compagnies. I've gone my own way by indeed only eating real foods, feeling healthier and better than before. People are often just lazy, or simply do not care. Which is fine, but atleast stop complaining about the amount of power of those coorperations, cause they still give it to them.

recently like a couple of years in Mexico the government forced companies to label their products... the companies payed a lot of money to push a narrative that the mexican goverment was making them spend a lot of money on something that was not needed... oh but it was needed... we all realized that most "healthy products" where anything but.... the other day i wanted to buy a Hazelnut spread like "nutella" well thanks to the labeling i saw that nutella had 3 warning... i ended up buying another brand that only had 1 warning label... i want to add that the nutella brand had a label that said that it was colored with stuff not suitable for children... how bout that

Something that makes me sound/feel like one of those alternative health nut weirdos is my hatred of food dyes. I used to not care about them, but one day in my 20s, i started gettint migraines. After 10 years of them, i finally started noticing that I would get them after I ate/drank certain things, the only things they had in common was certain food colorings.
I still get migraines from some things(I actually have one right now) but avoiding certain food products has cut my migraine occurrences in half at least. The fact that something random like that, tells me that ingredients can have a lot of effects on that we really have no clue what is going on.

Voting with your wallet never has and never will work. There will always be lazy people and people who literally have no time to cook for themselves.
However what we can do is raise awareness for bad ingredients and let people know what to avoid. This video is a step in the right direction. The next step is to tell people how specific ingredients affect our behavior and give people a list of ingredients and concoctions to avoid. Good start!

    • @BeergrYT
      @BeergrYT  2 месяца назад +1

I dunno, I agree and disagree with you on the voting with our wallet statement. It’s just that it’s a very long term solution but I definitely think it’s a solution. A lot has changed in the last ten years even. For example, 10 years ago you would almost never see gluten free versions of foods, but now it’s pretty much in every store. That’s a super small example but it’s definitely one to take a closer look at.
I love the idea of making vids about specific ingredients found in some of the most popular foods and their effects on our brains and bodies.

@@BeergrYT What he is essentially saying is that there will always be more lazy ignorant people than active and informed ones. See, for example what happens to other markets as well (e.g. brand clothing). However voting with our wallets DOES work. It is just that people are not bright enough to notice and they think that improvements "just happened". Because they were lazing off and did nothing and other people did the work, they think that nothing works, just like them :P

Those companies have a legal obligation to their shareholders to maximize profit - a single down quarter to make the food more healthy is LEGALLY unacceptable to them.

@@BeergrYT Excuse my rant, but: It's fair to say that our political and economic systems are primed for a populist revolution of sorts, such that we may (quite justifiably) begin expecting social responsibility above pure profit for its own sake on all fronts. A company should only be allowed to reap record profits when it has cut zero corners (such as underpaying/understaffing or sacrificing the long term sustainability of their own business model) and caused no harm in the process. The unrestrained (functionally crony-) capitalist ideal of "private companies should be as free as possible and the market may decide" is corrupted when you have oligopolistic cartels producing everything (including massive amounts of propaganda to manufacture consent for their methods) within reach and the only laws of consequence restrain the agency of small producers. What's more, it all fails because our political leadership can be bought and are not sufficiently pressured to put The People's needs before that of corporate interests. We've been lead to accept a wide variety of externalities resulting from these corporate entities' methods that take their toll on the wellbeing of The People in a variety of ways, while somehow year over year these entities manage to beat their previous numbers--and in spite of the average working individual even within their organizations struggling financially. Surely a growing proportion of the populace must be realizing by now that we are being systemically plundered and poisoned by people beholden to a broken system that rewards the wrong interests and serves nothing but to embolden greed. Civic pride and dignity must return in the form of both politicians and businessmen alike not only performing well in personal terms, but also in ensuring they care for their own society in return, without which their position could not exist. It is likely the average Joe follows suit when the system thus rewards virtue by design.
