Hello loves! DISCLAIMER (as I’m sure you’ll be able to tell from the video, I do like/love niche, that is just a comment I hear all the time from others is they don’t like niche!). Today's video is a bit more of a listen verses watch, I hope you enjoy! Please let me know down below what your BIGGEST advantages and disadvantages of niche verses designer perfumes are?? Do you do niche? Or are you a designer person?
I am now doing Niche perfumes, lately I bought Amouage portrayal woman Amouage love tuberose Amouage Honor woman By the fireplace Kilian love don't be shy Kilian rolling in love
I have a pretty good mixture of both niche and designer. Some people used to say once you go niche, you never go back. I have several niche scents now, and I still buy designer. 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
I don’t typically delve into niche for a unique/interesting fragrance, I appreciate niche because the compositions tend to be more smoothly blended. I definitely prefer smelling universally pleasing.
I like some designer perfumes & some niche perfumes. I think often times "niche" = more expensive. It's difficult to ascertain the "quality" of a fragrance but if we're conflating quality with expensive natural materials, most niche niche brands aren't higher quality. The majority of niche brands use the same synthetics designer brands use, the difference is they're formulated to be a bit more unique. Niche brands are still large mass market brands that need to ensure product consistency, and natural materials can vary in smell.
Ive been obsessed with having perfume as long as i can remember but i never had one that really blow me away until i tried niche and than i was hooked!!
Interesting video! Once I started getting into niche, I had a hard time loving a lot of the designer perfumes because so many seemed to smell similar and kind of syrupy sweet to me. I am drawn to niche houses that are fairly crowd pleasing, that also smell original and high quality. I do think there are good designer fragrances out there, so no one should feel pressured to overspend just to get niche. Also, I totally understand your thoughts on A City on Fire.🤣
Loved this video as always💕 I love both niche and designer but i really like finding fragrances sorely based on its fragrance and not for its brand or packaging! I like how niche diversify with unique fragrances that you not only love but fall in love with 🥰
I love so many niche but they definitely are more pricey. Sadly not all lines offer samples so you have to blind buy, which can be a risky fail if you don’t love it. Great video!
I love Niche perfumes not all, But much of them are just beautiful. Very happy to own Niche perfumes, I mean designer are ok, but niche is definitely something else.
Thank you for this review! I have a love/ hate relationship with niche fragrances. The ones I love I really love and I like that most niche fragrances are unisex, but some niche scents are overwhelming and give me headaches. My top ten fragrances would include about 3 niche and the rest designer fragrance. Expensive does not always equal a great smell.
Definitely right niche doesn’t equal a great sillage, projection or longevity sometimes either. You have to be very careful picking them and blind buying with those astronomical prices they have lol
Those are good houses. Kilian is kind of hit or miss with the longevity of their niche tho. I appreciate these 3 the most along with bond #9, tiziana, and Mancera as well
@@ms.faiththomas4372 I want to try Tribeca and Greenwhich but it’s hard to find individual samples from Bond...I had 3 Mancera fragrance Roses Vanille and Holidays I sold and Jardin Exclusif I gave to my dad that house to me is just sooo heavy if you get what I mean I love this scents but too bold for me and leans more masculine
Personal taste is most important. I‘m more into fresh, floral fragrances. I found my love for older designers. I also like the Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterranean Range which is considered Niche.
I like niche perfumes that aren't too polarizing. In designer perfumes, even tho i like the scent, my nose picks up on the alcohol too much, and the niche perfumes (from my experience the ones I have tried) are smoother and blended better. Oh and for unique perfumes I also like indie brands! they are usually less expensive, but the only con is that sometimes brands only offer it in oil perfume form.
My absolutely favorites and Penhaligons and Maison Margiela (Replica). I've always much preferred buying from a brand that specialises in its product, rather than a designer brand that sells everything. I do Jo Malone as well. I think the main thing I find with niche is that they smell of natural real world things, whereas designer perfumes just smell of perfume to me. I dont know if that makes sense! 😂😂
I like dabbing my toes into niche occasionally. I do find that they are just less accessible though to try and the price is a big disadvantage. For designer, I like being able to find them easily and for good prices. As for things being too popular though, I feel like fragrance smells different on everyone based on their chemistry so I don’t really get a ton of comments like oh I recognize what you’re wearing. I also generally can’t tell what other people are wearing so that’s not a huge concern for me. Edited to add: I was able to test Delina Exclusif though and ended up loving it. Every time I wear it I think omg this smells so good and unique. It could be my signature scent. Though it is super popular too so are we again getting into the “too popular” territory? 🤷🏻♀️
It depends I guess. I think among perfume enthusiasts it is popular but I don’t think most people that walk by you on the street will have necessarily have the perfume:) I’d say if you love it, get it!:)
I hate niche perfumes because they seem to me as if they are trying too hard to include every scent under the sun in one perfume ( sweet, sour, incense, fresh, citrus and what not) Most of the comments below seem to disagree with me coz they love niche. But sorry I hate niche. Will never buy niche. I love my designer perfumes. I love that they are uncomplicated(not basic) and I do not find two perfumes to be similar atleast until now. Idk why people say designer ones smell like each other. I also hate the very popular everybody’s beloved Baccarat rouge. So ya that’s that.
Great points! have a mix of designer and niche. My main problem with niche is the bottles are huge! They apparently refuse to make smaller bottle sizes. I don’t ever want 3+ whole ounces of any one perfume no matter how good it is. “Better value” doesn’t matter if it goes to waste. I prefer to buy 1 or 1.7 ounces. I’m sure they do it on purpose to stay inaccessible but it irks me to no end. Maybe it’s just me?!
I know it’s so expensive but most of the designers never appeal to me. I never liked generic or mainstream perfumes. I don’t wanna smell like every other person. Considering the ingredients that I don’t like; I already find myself in niche category 😅
While I agree with some of your cons, personally I find con #3-4 more of a pro. I enjoy the hunt, the search for the elusive perfume that melds well with my body chemistry and smells absolutely fabulous. I enjoy the wait for it to arrive especially in my country where there are barely any niche brands and they’re all in the capital city. Yes, designer are more mass pleasing but niche fragrances were never meant to be mass pleasing. Niche itself means a specialized segment of the market.
I was one that would stay away from niche bcuz if the price. But it got to the point of me spending the same amount in 2-3 bottles of designer fragrances and still not feeling satisfied. Like I was over the “same” type of notes and scents . I’m 35 n I been collecting for over ten years so I’ve tried or have had almost every designer fragrance. So I saved my money and bought a popular “safe” niche n I felt in love 😍. It’s definitely worth it for me .
I’ve had better experiences with Niche brands as they are usually very unique & long lasting. But you are so right in that you must take the time (& $) & do your research before buying (I don’t recommend blind buying at all) I’ve been doing this for a long time and enjoy the experience & discoveries I’ve made 💜 getting samples to Canada can be tedious & expensive but worth it! I really like your videos the content is great!!! Thank you!!!! 💕
I think mixing it up and having both is the way to go. You can easily find designer fragrances you'll like, but it's fun to spend some time seeking out interesting niche fragrances as well. I have found a handful of niche that I really like and and am happy to have a bottle of. I will admit though that I've spent a good chunk of money on samples, and while I'm glad I dodged many bullets, it adds up fast.
Thank you for this. I'm new to fragrances sort of (I've never owned too many, but I'm 51, so not "new" exactly...) and interested in getting into niche. I don't really want someone to say, "hey, you're wearing so and so, I love that"--so I've been researching. This video was very helpful.
I agree if you find the right Niche fragrance you can smell unique. I sometimes like to wear Laila by Geir Ness (cooler weather). I love both. i tend to lean more towards niche. I just hate that with niche i can't blind buy anymore. I often buy safer niche scents to mix with my designer fragrances. I was so disappointed with Erba Pura by Xerjoff and it's such a favorite among a lot of reviewers.
I’ve only tried le labo, byredo, dr marly, bond no 9 and Kilian. You’re right that Byredo isn’t very long lasting at all, and I actually HATE the bond no 9 Tribeca and Greenwich Village so holla at me if you want a small decant of those 2
Not that I know of! But then again I haven’t really paid attention and since I started getting into perfumes we were on lockdown haha so I haven’t gone anywhere. I have however been walking through a mall and smelled people walk by, sometimes I could tell what they were wearing and sometimes not.
Great video Ilythia!! I think I'm about half niche and half designer in my frag collection. A few of my favorite niche fragrances are MFK gentle fluidity, HOS Holiday, Xerjoff Lira, TF lost cherry, and Rassasi jasmine wisp. Edit: I really like the sample variety from Twisted Lily and just like you, I have had my share of duds or scents which didn't work for me. I also look for decants whenever possible rather than buying a full sized bottle.
Unfortunately for my wallet, I have gone down the rabbit hole when it comes to niche perfumes 😔 but there’s nothing I love more than niche perfumes...There are so many gems out there and I have only just scratched the surface!! It’s going to take a while (like years) for me to have a decent collection as I can afford only so much but I am happy to explore this world of niche perfumes further and further! Down the rabbit hole I go!🐇🐇🐇🌹🌹🌹
Most alluring thing with designer fragrances is when you know the design houses, their style and you are already sold on that. So you find their fragrances as an accessory that reinforces that same sense of style (wether or not you actually can afford their clothing, bags or shoes). THIS aspect seems to be lost with millennials though 🙄 And who says niche fragrances aren’t recognizable and oh so unique 😏 In some places all you smell is Bacarat Rough as an example.
I just got a decant of baccarat rouge just to see the hype and let me tell you it smells cheap asF I don't know how a person can spend that much money on this cheap smelling perfume.

Does the word niche mean that the fragrance is unisex?
Exactly:)
I wonder if a niche house becomes designer once it's as popular as the Lancomes of the world?
Most alluring thing with designer fragrances is when you know the design houses, their style and you are already sold on that. So you find their fragrances as an accessory that reinforces that same sense of style (wether or not you actually can afford their clothing, bags or shoes). THIS aspect seems to be lost with millennials though 🙄
And who says niche fragrances aren’t recognizable and oh so unique 😏 In some places all you smell is Bacarat Rough as an example.
Do you consider jo malone a niche or designer brand? :)
I thought Niche - I could be wrong :)
Once you go niche designer perfumes start to smell the same.
How do you not have a million subscribers?
Thank you! 💕 I appreciate your kindness.
