    I would like to point out a couple things as the manufacturer .
    During the design phase we decided that the trigger guard swivel that was designed for
    cold weather military gloves was not something we wanted to give to the general public
    because it basicly removes the trigger guard from protecting the trigger .
    We wanted the look of the M79 trigger guard without the liability .
    The military trigger pull spec on the 40mm M79 is 10lbs . We landed in the 8-10lb trigger pull range .
    One thing i would like to point out is the large amount of extruded plastic casings on the market .
    I have never found one that was perfectly round and a lot of them are not the right size in diameter .
    There are also 38mm rounds being sold as 37mm. The orange bird bang with the yellow projectile
    in the video is most likely a 38mm projectile if it will not fit in the muzzle end of the barrel .
    A 37mm projectile should measure 1.456 MAX (37 x .039375 ) and a 38mm should measure 1.496 .
    The barrels are bored to 1.500 so a 38mm should never be fired from the launcher .
    We have ordered cases of 37mm only to find they were 38mm projectiles and the person selling the ammo
    had no idea they were actually 38mm .(made in china)
    If you stick to the 37mm metal casings or adapters for the smaller 12g usgc or 26mm ammo you should never have any issues .
    If you do run plastic cased ammo , make sure the projectile is not 38mm ! !
    The breach was bored 5.750" deep with a .250 long taper going down to the 1.500" bore of the barrel .
    Nothing will get stuck in the barrel as long as its a 37mm projectile .
    Good work on the video Remotecamper !
    And yes , you were the first to do a video review !

      Thank you. I greatly appreciate the additional information. I love mine, and I will only use those aluminum shells that are .380 blank powered. It makes the launcher just perfect. BTW I did cut down 6 of my 8" shells to 5 5/8".

      So will this ST THUMPER will fire ASA MOAB 37mm projectiles from AMERICAN SPECIALTY AMMO?

    • @russbreeden3682
      @russbreeden3682 5 лет назад

      @@rustyshackelford6834 This launcher was designed for "US Coast Guard Approved Smoke and Flares Only" . If you shoot anything else through this launcher like RemoteCamper has done Please Please Please do extensive research and measure the projectiles being fired . I have no experience with the moab rounds.
      But i can tell you injection molded Plastic Casing and Plastic Nose projectiles suck because they are never perfectly round .

      The only things I have shot through this and my other launcher have alwayas been items that fit completely inside the shells, never anything that are the same dia. as the outside of the shell.
      I have seen thise MOAB projecties but I don't like to spend a lot of money on items that are single use.. The fireworks are about $1.60 each when I get the buy one get 2 free sales.
      Also I don't feel safe shooting commercially made bird bombs. TOO much explosive power in those for my liking.
      The fireworks I shoot. I tested one in the thin fiberglass tube it comes with without the lifting charge to see what would happen if it never moved. Everythign blew out the top and tried to blow out the bottom. The Thumper's steel barrel is more than 3 times the thickenss of the fiberglass tube.

      for a $1000 and no one can tell me what it can and can't shoot I'll probably just go with a $300 under barrel instead in all honesty...

    Where did you order those long aluminum 380 blank adapted reloadable shells?

  • @raptorfences
    @raptorfences 5 лет назад +4

    Those shells that are too long for the breech are likely meant for the 37mm HK M320s, that FN thing, or a Milkor 140. The M79 was never designed past 40x46mm, so it doesn't surprise me the 37mm does too.
    If you do bore out the barrel, curious to see if that works.

    Magnificent! Sorry you had to wait so long but a lost gem. The vietnam era M-79 is rougher. But I agree with you; better what you have than an actual M-79. Your just buying the name more so than the weapon, like addidas shoes or levis pants! Your buying the name and 'they' threw in the pants and shoes with it. You got yourself a winner Remotecamper!

    The stepped tube is actually superior for distance. When you fire a projectile from a smoothbore tube, and the projectile fits within the shell itself, once the projectile leaves the shell and enters the barrel, there is an air gap between the projectile and the barrel. That's why shotgun chambers are stepped, so the wadding will keep the pressure behind it. Other cheap launchers lose a lot of pressure that escapes around the projectile.

    • @remotecamper9113
      @remotecamper9113  4 года назад

      Totally understand that. But was upset that SO many other shells don't fit. Even the ones that I love have to be cut down by about 3 inches.
      With the longer shells I didn't care how long the barrel was because all that mattered happened within the shell.

      OH HELL NO!!! I've always wanted the real one for many years. I now have a cheaper version in 37mm. This is my baby! I'm constantly lookin for new things to shoot out of it. I'm 99% just shooting the fireworks (I have a vid on how to load them), but I carry a slice of the type of shell I use with me just to see what fits inside.

    37 mm = 1.4567 inch & a SCH 10 "1.25 inch" pipe has a 1.442 inch ID , so boar it out ?!!

    I know that's gotta be frustrating with some of the shells fitting too snuggly. That be said that launcher isn't the only gun with that problem. There are several shotguns as well as revolvers that have tight tolerances from the manufacturer that dont like certain casings from certain manufacturers or certain types of casings. Like for Instance my 4570 bfr hates anything casing that is coated or plated because the tolerances in the cylinder are so tight I can only use plain brass casings which personally I'm fine with. Same goes for shotguns to which in essence that's all the m79 is is just and oversized single shot breakaction shot gun. But like some have said if it's a huge bother to you take it down to a smith and have them bore the barrel out and polish the chamber portion of the barrel.

    Man I'm pretty sure those grenades don't work because they are 40 mike-mike and that is a 37 Mike Mike flare launcher. And out of every single grenade launcher I have ever used in training and in combat I have never seen shells that long! Even the large pop-up flares that contain the parachute are nowhere near that long for the 40 mike-mike m203. So I don't know where you're getting that garbage from?!?!?!

    • @remotecamper9113
      @remotecamper9113  4 года назад

      First of all you are comparing apples and oranges. Your military experience in 40mm is great and all but that is very different than 37mm.
      What shells are you talking about exactly? Everything on that table was 37mm and fit fine in my other 37mm launchers. The stuff you trained with are short because the launcher you were using could only hold a specific length round before it hits the rifeling. All non DD 37mm launchers are smooth bore and thus can hold any length shell that can fit in the tube.
      You can see in my other vids that those shells are not garbage and work very well over the ones you have to load with black powder.

    Nice review Camper , good job . That has got to be the longest 37mm casing ive ever seen ! How long is that casing ?

    • @remotecamper9113
      @remotecamper9113  5 лет назад +1

      The Shells you are talking about are brand new( but never loaded) Multi-Baton Ruber. 37mm-2703 Aluminum shells from MK Ballitic Systems. They are 8" long.
      I have been using long shells like this (but not this brand) for many years in my underbarrel m-203 looking flare launcher without a problem. The underbarrel launcher is just a straight pipe with no step inside. The Tumper here doesn't have a taper Its a step. It goes from one Dia to another in an instant.
      I did eventually cut 5 shells down to 5 9/16" which is the longest I could fit in the launcher.
      Again about these shells. No more black power. No more black powder smell, no more black powder corrosion, or overwelming smoke. No more shotgun primers, or the inability to bring the launcher back into the house after shooting it because it stinks to high heaven of rotten eggs.
      Just a single rimmed 380 blank. That is it. Its the whole lifting charge and its smokeless and stink free.

    You keep saying military 37mm and real 37mm. The military one is 40mm.

    • @remotecamper9113
      @remotecamper9113  4 года назад +3

      I said it once! Yes the real ones ARE 40mm. But if you listen to what I was saying.. I said that if you were to find a M79 in 37mm it wouldn't be a flare launcher, but a title 1 firearm. So you would have to go through a gun dealer.
      There ARE 37mm M79s out there that were made for other than military use, police and civilian use. Most are just bored-out and a 37mm sleeve was soldered or welded in place.

    Nice. I couldn't wait on Spikes so I got a Def-Tec gas gun. I did have to trim my shells down to fit. You may find a machine shop to lengthen the chamber.

    • @remotecamper9113
      @remotecamper9113  5 лет назад +8

      Technically shooting HE rds from a smooth bore launcher would end up in a lot of duds because the spinning of the grenade arms/sets the detonator.
      Plus all other under-barrel cheap launchers are non-stepped straight tubes so its not a legal thing.
