I'm happy for you, man. It's cheesy to say "you raised me" here on RUclips but you really did teach me a lot, and I don't know if I'd have ever made it this far on my own. I have a lot of great memories going to conventions together and helping you film videos. I can feel myself falling into the repetition sometimes too, so it's always nice to be reminded to pursue creativity instead of getting consumed by the numbers. After such a long time of no uploads, I always assumed, “He’s workin on an absolute banger just like always!” Then this dropped, and it took so much effort not to cry. I personally never followed you outside of this RUclips channel, I’m a fan, not a fanatic. 8 years really does feel like a lifetime in a weird way. I remember the first video of yours that I saw, it was the habenaro challenge and playing old urgot. I remember me and my friends playing league laughing and joking and every time there was a new actual spotlight, we'd go watch it. The gameplay videos, not just with league but others as well, the tier makers, even most recently, the arcane summary/review. Even though it's been less than a decade, it feels like we all kinda grew up with this channel. Can't wait to see more, and HUGE congrats on the engagement
The phrase "do what makes you happy" also refers to long hiatus and even quitting. So I expected everything. And honest to God, after all you went through with RUclips, I wouldn't have been mad if you said "I'm out for good".

Matt, you won’t see this comment but I feel the need to say it regardless. I’m a league player. I watched for league. Some of the content I think you did best is league. Don’t lock yourself in to league if you don’t want to, but league is why I’m here. Even in your prime, you weren’t my favorite league RUclipsr. That said, some of your videos are legitimately my favorite videos on the entire internet, along with bricky and darkkmane. Some of them are league videos and some aren’t. Doesn’t matter. The videos i truly enjoyed are the ones I feel like you made because you wanted to make them. You had an idea and loved it and put it out. My favorite being the jeopardy and hentai or not episodes. We do love you and miss you, but that doesn’t mean force yourself back to make us happy. It means you did something very right along the way, to make us love you. Congratulations Matt.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was "Only you can make you happy." Wrote it off at the time as it just sounded selfish and hokey, not at all like the grindset we were taught to go for to achieve "success". Wish I'd listened better and gone for my dreams instead. Happy to see you doing so man, looking forward to see what you come up with next.

Damn that hits hard man, this is big reality check for me. I cant express how much your words hit deep and makes me realize what i need to focus on and not overthink stuff just because people expect something from me. Thank you
I was never upset that you dont upload much content. Take as much long break as you need. Hoping the best for your future content that makes you “Happy”
It's actually really awful advice, but there are other things he mentioned in here that are solid pieces of advice. A very small minority of people can afford to do what makes them happy in life. Most have realistically impassable barriers that prevent it from happening. If everyone simply did what made them happy, modern society would collapse in an instant.
Edit: to add to this, it's good to stop & assess if what you're doing is making you miserable & finding ways to change that, but the general "do what makes you happy" is just a nice thought that doesn't translate well to real life. Things likex "take time for reflection", "if you're unhappy with your work, continue your career search & know that you aren't stuck", etc are much more direct & applicable pieces of advice.
This was honestly kind of inspirational, I've been thinking about getting into making videos recently but I kept making excuses like "I don't know how to use my editing software", But this makes me really want to try. Thank you
Editing software can be really overwhelming, maybe using an easier type of software to try out basic stuff could help you start building motivation to use more advanced software. Good luck!
I'm in the same boat, making excuses even while I'm in the middle of making my video to kick off my channel. I worry that there are so many better editors out there than me, and a nagging voice keeps telling me to give up. I'm trying to ignore that and keep on looking up editing tutorials every time I hit an obstacle. You can do it! Keep on learning and go for it. :) I'll try to do the same.
I just really dont understand how channels like this get hit with major ad restrictions but rap videos that are absolutely degenerate and disgusting make unbelievable money and dont get restricted.

After my father passed away i stared playing league and thats when i found out about you through your actual spotlights. Then when i heard about youre dad it made me want to support you even more. Honestly hearing your words now reminded me of why youre one of my favorite if not my favorite youtube creator. You have not only been a sorce of inspiration to me but a source of laughter in one of the darkest times in my life. Hell i still try to play a game of league with you on epal i try everyday. Dude I’m so excited, i started watching Matt around the Kled Spotlight’s release, and I thought those videos were so good that I went back and watched some of the older ones from years before. Idk the exact timeline of when you became unmotivated or your mental state started declining, but all those earlier videos felt so full of life. I can’t wait to get back to that. Also congrats on getting engaged to Bea, kinda weird to think it’s been 5 years since the video of you guys going to Hawaii. I still think it would’ve been the perfect setting to propose, but now was for sure the right time.

Now I can honestly say this video surpasses it. I cannot imagine how hard it was to not only record this video, but edit it, make the thumbnail, title and post it. I'm glad you are finding your way, I'm still in the process coming up on my last year in school. I've been on my own hiatus focusing on finishing my degree along with getting into the industry to find what I want to do afterwards. As someone who constantly loses motivation when it comes to GPA, rejection letters, and the anxiety of being so close yet so far; I needed this. I've been watching you for 5 years now and in those 5 years I have went from a dumb edgy teenager to a lost man. For months now I've been stuck in this loop of not being able to get up from bed and not having any motivation, because I don't even know what having motivation meant. This video resonates me, because the last 2 weeks have been eye-opening. I'm probably getting my border-line dream job, I am waking up with a smile and I even am starting RUclips as a hobby. And I can't stop and smile at this video as I reflect on the journey that I had to get here, and the fact, that I'm not this weird alien dumbass that is making it difficult for himself, but that other people have felt that too. That said, if I'm being honest I was truly upset, with the stagnating content you had been making in the past 2 years. It just wasn't funny at all and it was getting repetitive and boring. I always thought you were the best League content creator long before like 4-6 years ago, you were not afraid to drop your most successful series (actual spotlights) and do what you really want (documentarie stuff), this alone makes you more unique and better than all the League creators that kept going for the same content over and over until someone replaces them (I remember Brofesco was like, as big as you or even bigger than you at some point).
After the documentary stuff you just straight up became my favourite content creator not just League. Tbh I kinda forgot about you for a while since you are not posting consistently and I was not into warhammer, but I am so happy to see you pop up in my notification after so long, can't wait to see your new content!

I stopped playing League of Legends because I just didnt have time in my life anymore. Now whenever I got some free time I pop in to try it out, but its just not the same satisfaction. I have friends that still play it but for me its not as fun anymore once you are out of the loop
I am very, very, very happy to hear that you found that "relaxing" feeling, that "non-anxious" feeling of knowing you are capable, even if you "change" career. I didn't become aware of you until Dicecheck, so I'm not really the audience for this video, but I kinda get the gist having watched video game streamers once upon a time. I dont know that your audience here can really appreciate what the success of Dicecheck really means. Warhammer HobbyTube is a niche that not only has its established institution channels, but is also littered with countless channels barely surviving. To be successful in the space, it's not enough to have a personality and a gimmick that works. All the big channels occupy their own niche within the niche, there's not much room for competition inside of those, and you have to carve out your own one niche within that niche of a niche. The biggest obstacle is the size and nature of the community. There simply arent tens of millions of viewers up for grabs. It's at least three zeros smaller and everyone is extremely wary of newcomers. We can sniff out a tourist on a dime because anyone involved in any aspect of the hobby is some level of obsessed. You have to be. There's simply too much information, the initial barrier of entry is so high just to feel like you have a basic grasp of a single aspect - painting, kitbashing, building terrain, playing the game, making batreps (yes, that's a separate skill from just knowing how to play competently), and the Lore good god the Lore. Each aspect is its own rabbit hole feeding into a black hole.
This is all to say, not only did you accomplish what you stated, but you did so on Hardcore mode. So, congrats. I hope some of your fans from this channel read this and gain a little more perspective. Looking forward to this recent return of DiceCheck.

I’m really glad you made this video, rather then just coming back out of where and acting like nothing happened. It’s really made me reconsider a lot of things.
There are a multitude of different things I wanted to try(Warhammer, mtg, dnd), but every time I’ve tried it I failed at it, with the worst part being that it wasn’t due to my fault.
This video gave me the courage to just try again, and maybe this time things will work out.

one of the most talented youtubers to ever grace my eyes, you helped me get through the hell whole of highschool (as naive as that sounds) and honestly built my humour up to what it is today. Thanks for always pushing through the repetition of what youtube is and making genuinely good content. My favorite part of your channel was probably when you started doing all these long form documentaries, you got some really cool stuff to say.
Speaking on the yt section, it's so bad how much yt has kind of dug itself a hole.... everyone says old yt was better and it was! Because of the creative freedom, a large majority of the yt daily popular videos lack creativity and a sense of sharing. Yt stunted creativity and turned it into a money hungry business pit, so empty now. That's why streaming is somehwhat better, but even that is getting hit by the same train. It's so hard, you make one little wrong move and yt companies ruin your revenue/livelihood. Also!! Super missed you dude, glad you found your happy, spreading hope and laughs! ♡ gl!!
Absolutely love what you have been doing on this channel and on Dice Check. Watching your content got me into 40k and is a huge reason I started making videos on wargaming/board games.

I wouldn’t take a risk if you don’t have financial stability. Saying that you’re going to “fail” anyways isn’t really a good argument. The anecdote with Jim Carry’s family is not a good example because his father made the better choice. Sure he ended up getting fired after 10 years but at least for 10 years they were financially stable. If he did the comedy path and never ended up taking off his family would’ve been much worse off much earlier. This is why you shouldn’t take financial or life advice from RUclipsrs….

Do whatever makes you happy. no matter what. I'm glad you realized that and changed your lifestyle. Manny people wouldn't have found out or if they do they wouldn't change their lifestyle or take a risk. But like you said it payed off. Is better then being depressed and while doing something you don't like. I never thought you did league and you weren't happy. Manny times we viewers just take the content for granted without thinking about the person who works so hard to do it. We think is something normal and is fun for you to do it. And unless like this video you don't tell us how you feel. We would not have guessed. Apearences can be deceiving. I wasn't aware you had a second chanel truth be told I'm not interested in league since I quit it 3 years ago after I lost my account due to some problems. But I'll check the second chanel to. Really need to hear that Matt. Ive been a long time watcher and you hit on a lot of personal notes that I’ve discovered over these years. Working from necessity is different from working for fulfillment. You couldn’t be more right. There is a sense of undeserved pride for you after seeing how far you’ve come. Matt, i am happy that you are happy. I hope that you don't mind that some people like me find your "low quality content" more enjoyable, maybe in the future i will give a chance to your more ambitious projects. I know that it's not something that really matters, but your content is one of the things that i cling to when having worse days myself. What i mean to say is that what you view as low quality is still valuable to people like me, and i rewatch them over and over, maybe it gives my fragile mind stability.
That said, I hope you will push your boundaries further, and achieve your goal
