Kennedy to that of George H. W. Bush. Ray’s duties included chairing National Intelligence Estimates and preparing the President’s Daily Brief, which he briefed one-on-one to President Ronald Reagan’s five most senior national security advisers from 1981 to 1985.

The borders of Ukraine were drawn by the Soviet Union. The area lumped various ethnic groups, including a large amount of Russians and Ukrainians together to water-down the factional strength of any one group. The 1990 collapse of the Soviet Union was an accident of good fortune for Ukraine. Ukraine did not fight for its independence. It was a not too carefully, hasty agreement by Russia and Ukraine. As early as 1997, NATO/US viewed this as an irresistible, geo-political opportunity. Had they acted then, they might have enjoyed more success.
    Not so 25 years later.
NATO/US must have known that Russia knew every facility, every road and every strategic asset in Ukraine. They also had plenty of agents, perhaps within the government. Ukraine has been used by the West.
When you take into account the nightmare that the Russians suffered at the hands of the Germans, (1941-45), Putin did the right thing. If he hadn't he would have been removed.

Putin’s job isn’t to run the military or the factories. Putin’s job as head of state is to build relationships with other countries such as China, Saudi Arabia, Iran and so on. Putin is focusing on this side of Russia’s influence, which is what he should be focused on because it’s the most important for long term development and gain in Russia. It’s also the area where the US and the west are the weakest right now and has the most ability to hurt them.

There are a lot of misconceptions about this war. 1st of all Ukraine never actually accomplished a maneuver operation, the October counteroffensive was a strategic Russian withdrawal, and in their retreat the Ukrainians got half of their army destroyed by blindly attacking the Russians and getting blown up. Therefore it was in a sense a tactical victory for Ukraine but a strategic victory for Russia.
2nd Russia adopted an attrition strategy due to the fact that they didn't have enough forces for a war of maneuver, and it has proved more successful. 3rd, the Summer counteroffensive of Ukraine was such a disaster, and it mainly failed because of the lack of one basic component of maneuver warfare, Air Power. So everything that NATO told the Ukrainians was total BS. The Ukrainians were never capable for successful maneuver warfare, and this ignorance from the West has allowed the war to go decisively in Russia's favor.

Russia has failed to respond to myriad escalations and infractions of Russian border integrity. Red lines have been not just ignored, but trampled over and danced on. The west has made mock of Russia's supposed nuclear deterrent, and must understandably feel confident that they have the upper hand to do just whatever they wish to in the ucraine and Russia.
Compare and contrast. Still Russia has failed to respond in any meaningful way to the destruction of the nordstream pipeline. Well, not quite perhaps, since it has kindly taken to giving India more oil for it to sell on into the global market, to make up for any direct supply of it's energy assets to the west. The USA, has clearly and unambiguously threatened to invade a european country, should the ICJ launch a prosecution of netanyahu, and I believe they would do just that. After all, president bush the younger passed into law a bill authorising such an action.
Had mr Putin been more confident and aggressive, this war would have been over a long time ago, and fewer Russian service personnel, not to mention citizens of the donbass, would have died

From an essay by georgesoros from November 1993:
"Toward a New World Order: The Future of NATO"
An interesting section is the ninth paragraph from the buttom:
"Incidentally, the combination of *manpower from Eastern Europe* with the technical capabilities of NATO would greatly enhance the military potential of the Partnership because it *would reduce the risk of body bags for NATO countries,* which is the main constraint on their willingness to act."
    Filtering out the essence:
" … Eastern European manpower … would reduce the risk of body bags for NATO countries … "

Her is a nuclear reminder to Russia if she ever attack the West with nuclear weapons. Israel and the United States did not unveil their most advanced anti missile system when Iran attacked Israel .England, France and Germany have advanced anti missile systems. Germany being the most advanced. Russia should think twice about having all their missiles shot down while having to absorb nuclear retaliation from the US, UK, France and possibly Germany and Poland.

  • @RobertoAtkinson-q3x

In todays warfare, having more shells is no guarantee of victory. Russia fires thousands of shells at Ukrainian targets while Ukraine is taking out Russian targets with one or two missiles. What is the sense of having thousands of shells in an ammo depot only to have one ATACMs take the ammo depot out. Russia is expending men and ammunition at WWII levels while Ukraine is fighting a 21st Century war. Russia lost 90% of wars. WWII was only a victory because England and the US gave Russia massive help. Russia lost to Japan in 1904, lost to Poland in 1920, lost the first invasion of Finland, The second invasion of Finland ended in negotiations. lost in Afghanistan, lost the first Chechen war, The Chechen war ended when Kadyrov was paid to eliminate other Chechen units. Russia's only clear cut win was against tiny Georgia.
