- Looking for something to play on the TV in the background while you gather around for the holidays? Something that isn't a ball game or Hallmark Holiday movie? I've got you covered! Here is the full length nosecam video of my July 2012 flight from Wenatchee, WA to Hillsboro, OR.
This is one of my earlier efforts and lacks the cockpit POV or narration you'll find in other videos on this channel. Instead, it's just the entire 1 hours and 22 minutes of my direct flight, from takeoff at a friend's house in Wenatchee Heights to landing at Hillboro Airport. Along the way, you'll pass over forests hillsides, snow-covered mountains, craggy peaks, fogged-in valleys, lakes, rivers, and farmland. You'll get a good look at Mt. Rainier in the distance and a much closer look of Mt. St. Helens, which I fly right by. I've added music from RUclips's royalty free library, but if you don't like it, turn down the sound and listen to your own music.
Any way you watch it, I hope you enjoy it.

About Me and the Helicopter
• I have been flying for about 20 years. My nearly 4,000 hours of flight time is in Robinson R44, Robinson R22, and Bell 206L (Long Ranger) helicopters.
• The helicopter is a 2005 Robinson R44 Raven II -- the same one that appears at the beginning of the video. You can learn more about them here: robinsonheli.com/r44-specific... I own this helicopter. It is the second helicopter I've owned since 2000.
About the Video
• The video was recorded with a GoPro Hero 3 camera mounted on the helicopter's nose with a proprietary mount.

Wat a magnificent blast from the past for this Pacific NW native and child of the Cascades. Crossing the Crest via Goat Rocks was a definite highlight. My only regret was that you passed to the east of St. Helens, but I'm fully aware of the flight restrictions on the northern side and around the caldera, so the choice is understood. For what it's worth, the "dream flight" I hope to see one day will be another installment of "Nick Over the Rocks", circumnavigating the Stuart Range from Malaga... ;)

1) a comment: For those non-helicopter riders watching, the swaying motion seen on the video is not really apparent when flying in a helicopter or light plane. While both the helicopter and camera are constantly moving, as a human you mostly "adapt", compensate and don't notice.
2) a question: Much of my flying was from Falcon Field, Mesa to Douglas Muni on the Mexican Border in a Cessna T210 at 5-8k AGL at ~ 150 kts. The route taken always had numerous nearby airfields in gliding distance. In this flight, AGL seems to be ~ 1k AGL and speed ~ 100kts, typical of light helicopter usage. While this gives a more detailed view of the ground and terrain, I could not see a lot of "set down" opportunities in the 1st 1/2 of the video, especially given the low glide ratios available. How do you deal with this?
