    I have planted a few in my land in siquijor..first i thought it was a good wind breaker because of the deep roots,but now i want to plant more to get a nice yield.

    The exterior nut pulp is another potential product which, with sugar added has strong pili flavor locals call "tampuyak". Someone should research how to prolong shelf life to be sold commercially.

    I used to climb pili tree to gather nuts when i was a child,.we would put them in hot water for a few minutes and remove the outer skin.
    After they are dried i would sell them,there comes a time na nauumay na ako kasi sa dami kung nakakain but now that i am here in The US miss na miss ko sya.

      Maria. it is put in a warm water (if hot it the outer meat will get harder). the process is called paglanta. you can eat the outer meat either plain or dipped in sugar as dessert or dipped in patis as viand which is my favourite.

    • @tanlo94
      @tanlo94 6 лет назад

      sorry there is an error in the preceding. Hot water makes tne outer meat harder

    Oh my, those way of cracking the Pili nuts require experience and precision to open the hard shell without splitting the nut. I guess Bicolanos really know how to handle them.

    It's time to rebrand this product in a climate of food lifestyle conscience consumers. It's one of the lowest-carb nuts known which is a major plus if you're living a very low-carb or "keto" way of life.

    What about the PILI leaves ? The nuts have once source of nutrition but the shell although hard has a entirely different chemical composition
    What happens to the outer shell after oil is extracted from the hard shell?

    In brunei we use to boil the fruits and eat the outer flesh. Bruneians like the rich n fatty taste of its outer flesh. Expensive as its cost B$10.00 per kilos. That is equivalent to almost peso 370/ kilos.
