My girlfriend got me this boxset for my bday, recently, I didn’t even open the thing, we went and returned it. Insanely overpriced for what you get, especially compared to the Pelennor Fields set. Which, Of Course, is no longer available
Honestly the thing that broke the camels back for me was the "Art book" they realised recently the day I came out I had to spend 7hrs in AnE so I was just waiting in excitement to get back home and look at some amazing warhammer art n read what the artists thought about the character or their process of drawing the character(s) which when I finally got back home I was extremely disappointed to see the "artbook" was 99% lore and 1% art with zero credit to the artists and only to the writers
simultaneously laughs and cries in tyranids. ( most of there models are from early 2000s or even earlier)
not getting a year out of a codex is freaking annoying
It really makes me sad the LOTR miniatures don't get much love from GW. I'm at a point where I'd rather just go with 3rd party proxies.
i like to use LOTR sculpts in oathmark. and i use mostly 3d printed miniatures and m8. there is some very good sculpts out there.
I do agree with you here. On one hand, yes, it sucks that the models are old. But on the other hand. I take a look at the box *before* I purchase it. I think the reason that the Lord of The Rings stuff is so old is because of licensing. Everything has a tm after it and I think partially that hinders new model production. As for models, I am ok with buying expensive models and, indeed, I did buy the Wrath of the Soul Forge King box. But I do also consider beforehand (and a look at the back of the box).
You may want to avoid Eldar and Tyranids
I feel your pain, I cry with you and support your frustration. I'm sorry you were hurt so badly and I hope you can heal over time. Good luck and stay strong my fellow plastic addict.
It's a luxury niche product. If you want to actually protest - spend your money with another company.
I gave up on GW. Constantly increasing prices without updates to their model lines... I'll just stick with my 3d printer.
Hi, what kind of 3d printer is the best in your opinion ?
@@bp1759 Really depends on what you are looking to print. For terrain you really need either a FDM printer, or one of the expensive resin printers with a huge build plate. For general minis I would recommend any Mono screen from Phrozen, Anycubic, or Elegoo. They are all more or less the same in price and quality. I have an original "anycubic Photon" which runs fine still(tho have had to replace screen a couple times but that is common on all models, especially non mono screens because the printing process is pretty brutal on the LCDs), and an "anycubic mono" which is a little faster, and the detail is a little higher as the mono screens are designed specifically for 3d printing, and not just repurposed LCDs that work like the older models.
a tip for helping and give engaggement by commenting: try getting some 3d printed "LOTR" models. there is a few on the market. pick something and paint by your best standard. and compare with what gw is doing...
Just... look at the box before buying it?
It was honestly pretty difficult to notice they were older models. Even when first opened it I didn’t notice, call me stupid if you wish so but still who would have thought they’d put all those super old kits
@@ataraxiapainting The fact that you needed time to notice it speak well for the quality of Perry brother's sculpt. They still hold up for a game that is super niche and very few people still buy.
I too want new minis for Lotr but honestly is even a miracle they still sell the game making occasionally some heroes/buildings, so if I can agree with being sad that those are old minis, being angry at GW for this reason is not well... reasonable given how licensed game works
I can tell you don't have any experience in this game system and its model ranges 😅
I’m in two minds about this. I play and enjoy Middle Earth and I would 100% love some new troop sculpts for the main factions but at the same time I totally understand the business decisions GW are making. It’s a licensed game and the new movie licence has just been acquired by Warner Brothers, GW are not going to commit to making new troops for a game that may be legally pried out of their hands (depending on how the contract is written). I think the new box is GW making what they can out of the license whilst simultaneously demonstrating their track record for future license negotiations for the upcoming films. Ultimately it’s a great game but it’s not the money spinner it was, they are keeping it alive in the hopes that a new license will make them mega bucks.
🙏
Early thirties are chill tho, good money to energy ratio and what not
Completely agree. I want to play the game so badly but I cannot bring myself to buy the miniatures. If they would just update the full range to be in line with Warhammer I think the LotR game would become one of their biggest earning games.
I actually quite like the old models, but fuck me they shouldn’t cost this much
They should not..
I actually like the older miniatures from WHFB days. Not mono pose, easy to build, lots of bits and easy to paint. Now just too difficult to build and too difficult to paint. I still do both. Just not the enjoyment it was back when.
Well I agree with the building part, new kits are pretty annoying and time consuming to assemble… but the painting? Having sharper details can only be a plus for beginners
For the Algorithm!
Ive been in the hobby since I got allowance as a teenager and this is very much GW's usual stuff.
I'm surprised you didn't mention that their paints are almost double the price of any other mini paint line too! You must spend out the butt on Citadel paint!!!
Lol. My 'Nids from the 2000s era. I had 20 models in my army that required rework of parts because of wrong sprues or parts. Tyrant Guards with all left legs... An Old One Eye with only one claw...
GW quality control is piss poor.
lol good video. "I Need Plastic!" is a craving I've been getting since I got into the GW hobby in 1990 lol. It's only gotten worse over time.
I love the MESBG game and some of the models very very much but it does pain me how they still push old minis in the new boxes. It sucks.
GW just does it’s best to avoid making new stuff as much as possible as they’re caught in an infinite loop of space marines releases that they got themselves stuck in a long ass time ago. They will reach a point if they’re not careful of losing most of their not as cared for games and factions to people putting actual effort into decent proxy models
The age hurts less than the fact that most of those models will 100% break at the slightest chance. So many LOTR spears I have.... detached and floating around, body-less.
This was a big drop in quality from your usual content. The thumbnail and title were just clickbait.
Possibly yes, you need to understand that I have to play the RUclips game otherwise my 30/40 hours work I put in for you for free is gonna be wasted because such a small number of people will get to see the video.. Hopefully people will understand that.
Plus if we want to be very nit-picking if that’s the term, I did write the email for real and what happened is that they ignored me as expected.
@@ataraxiapainting I think the reason I was upset was the thumbnail is created in a way that implies they responded and apologised to you, so I watched the video to get to that part, and it never happened. It was just one step beyond my normal clickbait tolerances.
But I get it, I understand, I appreciate how much hard work your channel must take and how the RUclips algorithm doesn't help you. Thank you for the usual and super-useful content.
@@Dragonnox it’s totally fair to be upset, I honestly don’t like it either that I have to invest most of my time thinking about how to make people click, sometimes risking also being less then “honest” with my titles. It’s upsetting for me to. I really wish I could simply do tutorials and not put so much effort to get notice… but it is what it is..
I tried this way of titling the video because while studying the algorithm I ran into a video where the title was changed from “1ml $ loft apartment in New York” to “the best loft in New York… and no one wants it!”
Watching the video, of course there was no reason whatsoever why people didn’t want it.. but that title made a HUGE difference.
I’m still figuring things out, what’s right and what’s wrong, but hopefully people will understand that’s just part of my journey and part of my own effort to make you guys see my content! Thanks for taking the time to reply in a very polite and human manner!
This is the first video I have ever watched of you and it’s absolutely hilarious! You earned yourself a sub!! Aaaaand of course you made some valid points.
At the end of this video I was laughing soooo hard :) I hope you feel better after venting, everybody needs something like that from time to time :D
I think the game in general deserves more love.
I also bought the Osgiliath set recently and I've loved painting and playing.
The rules are much easier than other games.
Lord of the Rings is garbage
No i am
It's strange as the game has such a good fanbase that more new models aren't churned out more frequently.
Forgeworld bring out new models more frequently than mainline GW.
Would recommend thranduil on elk as being a prime example of what can be achieved, such a cool model.
Totally agree with you!
I still get really annoyed when they release brand new models in boxed sets (often for factions that haven't been updated in a long time) lumped in with old models that need to be updated to match the standards of the new releases.
And I just think - Great, now I have to wait for them to be released individually (and cost more) or loose the big boxed set savings I'd make by getting old models I don't want/need.
Yeah, I have a bunch of those same minis that a guy that got hot and heavy into painting and then burned out gave me, and they aren’t great. You’re doing a beautiful job on that horse, though!
Good video with valid points.
Glad you think so! Tho I still love gw stuff ahah
i made my own video off of this not realising how old this video was XD but you make some very good points. i would love to see the oldest LOTRs kits get updates. @@ataraxiapainting
love the rant, equal parts outrage and humor, run for office please Quebec and Canada need your energy.
That's really disapointing, glad you got 4 new models
My guess is they assume fans of the books will just take any miniatures that are associated with the book, and considering how poorly some of them are painted on the web store I'd guess they aren't putting much effort into trying to impress people. It is disappointing for sure, I love LOTR and The Hobbit and love painting minis so having nice minis would be preferable but, at least the bar isn't set too high in terms of painting them better than the box art, and if you can make dog sh%t minis look cool that'll be a pretty good achievement.
The new stuff is good. I think they're just older minis they haven't gotten around to updating likely because they can't/don't need to
@@catcadev you're probably right, in terms of sales it's likely not their biggest seller so it's not worth their time to devote a lot of attention to the line. some of the paint jobs on the webstore are a bit questionable though. I reckon they could look better if someone took the time to paint them well.
@@tabletop-mini-showcaseAbsolutely. I think if the popularity increases they will... Or if they run out of ideas and things to add.
Lol Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Embracer Group recently bought Asmodee and the right to LotR, which could mean GW looses the LotR license in the not so far future. The old miniture problem for LotR might be solved soon. Which sucks, cause I have Lothlorien and Mirkwood Elves which need some more miniatures and my Rohan is rudimentiary. But I have Beorn, Gwaihir and four Eagles painted, which is nice.
If you don't expect anything, you won't be disappointed.
