- The Byrna SD is the perfect self-defense tool for anyone looking for an easy to use and non lethal option. With its pistol design and powered by CO2, you can use this weapon in any situation without having to worry about causing any serious damage.
Love my Byrna SD XL - never had an issue with it. Don’t pay too much attention to many of the reviews on RUclips; they shoot the damn thing incorrectly (not loading properly, etc.) then they wonder why it isn’t perfect. It’s perfect enough when you operate it properly!
Do you think the pepper projectiles effective enough? … or it’s worth it to pay more for the Max?
@@Arkane117 some people have a kind of immunity to capsaicin.. capsaicin is the stuff in pepper that's hot... These are the people you see walk through pepper spray with minimal effect.
The max ball, is a mixture of pepper spray and a chemical... So in theory it gives you more protection than straight pepper should you face an "immune" or very determined attacker.
Can you open carry Byrana in california?
well-spoken review. the little allen wrench tip on the butt of the magazine is just the right size for securing the CO2 cartridge, in case no one mentioned it yet. Great emphasis of cartridge being always ready. Your cautions were stellar. You really know your stuff. Your customers are lucky!
Best description of the items I have heard yet!
Hands down the best byrna breakdown video every kind of information I needed and want some I didn't even know!! Awesome video 👏🙌
I cycle on a bike trail where homeless people coyotes and wild dogs roam. I definitely want this
Shut up
Great video - better information and explanation of the differences than you get from Byrna ;)
Seriously
I'm sharing this to all I know. Thanks.
Very necessary to have one of those at home, superb video, thanks very much
Very good explanation.
Looking to get one myself, I prefer air weapons over powder and would rather carry and use a less lethal for self defense.
Great video
Great product… nice to be able to count on a non lethal weapon weapon if a situation requires
El mejor video sobre byrma
I have one and I love it!
Looks like a good road rage tool.
It also comes in a solid black color
How long can I leave the projectiles in the magazine
Great video. Instead of using an Allen key to secure the CO2 cartridge cap, why not use the Allen key tool that is built into the magazine?

Were can I buy this
Great Review. I own the SD and looking to become a dealer in the Dallas area.
in CA civilians are not allowed to have the pepper and tear gas, only law enforcement and security can have them. I think if they take the exam on the website they should be able to get the pepperball and tear gas ball
the exam allow you to buy them but you still need to apply for the "guard" card to carry them
@@musk-eteer9898 can I use them in the states that are allowed even though I live in California. Let's say I get them sent to my friend that lives in Arizona. But I only use them if travel outside california?
@@musk-eteer9898 if you pass the exam, you don't need to apply for the guard license unless you just want to have a security guard license. The Byrna exam is all you need to satisfy the California requirement to purchase, own, and use the chemical rounds.
@@Aivas As long as they are legal in that state I would say Yes, but to be safe always check with law enforcement in that state first.
@@Joreelthank you for clarifying that. I'm in So Cal
great launcher, the company should get rid of the screw load gas mechanism with a tray load or a side load with slider or button.
🤔 you're making it a hard choice between this and the umerex HDR 50.
Just depends on which one has the better price
Not sure on the Umarex, but the feature we liked on Byrna was the CO2 stays un-pierced until you take the first needed shot.
I own both and they’re so different but the BYRNA is better for EDC in my opinion. Get both of them and you’ll be glad you did.
the Byrna has more impact, i got both.
I've seen videos where the target didn't feel anything because he was wearing a jacket. I wish they would crank up the pressure on this a bunch.
I've been shot by the kinetic rounds while wearing a nice winter jacket and I can tell you that it still hurts like hell getting hit by those rounds (never ask your spouse to shot you after 25 yrs of marriage 😔). I did test shooting the Pepperballs at a mannequin wearing a winter jacket to see if they would break and only 1 of 5 didn't because I clipped the edge of the jacket so it didn't have anything to break on. Honestly though if someone is wearing a puffy jacket, you'd then shoot the legs or a solid surface next to them if there is one.
@@Joreel 😂 I can imagine! Thanks for the reply.
Looks like it would piss someone off would you really trust your life with one of these.. but it looks kool to plink with

Would this work on a pitbull about to attack my dogs? I carry bear spray now.
Yeah it'll hurt the hell out of the pitbull and if shot in the wrong spot possibly kill the dog. Don't use the chemical rounds though as they will coat you and your dogs as well if the pitbull is too close and all of you will be hurting badly.
@@Joreel well I dont care if I kill the attacking dog. Thx for info
SOLD!
Wow that's awesome
Wow 👏 👌 !! Wayyyyyy cool
Question for you Sometimes when I pull the trigger it'll click but it won't shoot no. It's feel too out what's my problem
Launcher also comes in black color you didn't mention the one I got.
I love my Byrna, but we got it in Orange and Yellow because here in SoCal having a self defense launcher in Grey or Black could very likely get you drawn on or possibly shot by an armed security guard or a police officer who mistakenly sees what looks like a real gun on you. But I do agree the Black looks bad ass 😋
Green n blk one is tuff, I would've gotten that one Instead of blk but I works good..
Looks like a decent product… but I definitely know, from multiple personal encounters, if the person is high (and that’s usually the case) these nonlethals do absolutely nothing, I’ve had former coworkers hit people who are high in the chest from less than 7 feet with shotgun beanbag and these CO2 pepper/gas rounds and nothing.
Head shot!!!
This is true, but unless you have really sketchy friends or live in a really sketchy place, the "drugged up guy" is outstandingly unlikely for the average person to run into. I'd wager like 80% of dick heads trying to intimidate you would be deterred by a shot (or 5) of any of these rounds, even the biodegradable practice rounds. WAY more attackers aren't drugged up zombies than are.

the PEPPERBALL® LIVE-X PROJECTILES fit the Byrna Sd xl pistol?
If they're .68 then they should, but using ammo from someone else can void the warranty if it jams or damages the gun since Byrna makes it very clear they don't recommend using non Byrna manufactured rounds.
Price.
How to buy
Hi, have you instances of chemical projectiles cracking in magazine?
If you are careful when loading them and don't bang the gun around, it's very rare for the pepperballs to crack. They're pretty tough to crack or break.
@@Joreel True, I notice that if one unintentionally knocks the bottom while of the mag ( carrying/in transit/moving from on place to another) while loaded in the launcher there is a chance the chem rounds may crack.
All you do is make an adapter that fits onto the front of an air rife to pepper balls?
Huh?
I get what you’re saying and yes I believe that should be possible.
If the air rifle uses .68 rounds then all you'd need to do is load them up and shoot them, no adapter needed.
Any paintball gun will do..
can a 12 and 14 yr old carry the non pepper version?
state laws varies
No, you have to be 18 for the Byrna.
Would you really trust your life with this.. looks kool to plink with
Would you recommend the brightly colored ones to avoid being shot with a real gun (say, an officer arrives on the scene and thinks you have a firearm and takes you down)? I'd hate to lose my life using a "fake" gun mistaken for the real thing. The bright colors makes it look like a toy gun, though. Tough decision.
Good evening I just came across this video. If your state has no requirements concerning colors of less lethal launchers I would recommend you purchase one that looks more real. Firearms are available in vibrant colors so having one of these launchers in a vibrant color will not necessarily make it more safe for you. Police do not have the luxury of making a decision based on color alone in an emergency situation. As I mentioned firearms are available in vibrant colors as well. Sometimes just appearing to be an actual firearm May prevent you from having to use it in the first place. A launcher that looks like a toy is not going to deescalate anything. I hope this helps.
@@kurt9994 Yes, thank you.
don't forget black
I bought today and is not working good , leaking all the co2 en one second, bad product
Did you properly tighten the seal or over tighten it as both of these will cause that problem. I have two and haven't had any issues with the CO2 leaking. Did you contact Byrna for a replacement?
Should have been 450-500 fps... sturdy
Anything over 300-350 fps in many States is considered lethal by law enforcement, so at 300 fps it keeps it legal in all 50 States
Just bought the steel firing bolt but it comes without the most important part the part that bends out of shape and without all the rings. I also bought the power screw which has decreased rather than increased power....absolutely pointless buying these.
imo, the launcher is as good as it is
Pfff troll!! I have there awesome
it would be useful in Russia
for fighting the ukrainians
@@musk-eteer9898 no, use on mad streets
I wish ppl that do these video would do them right THIS IS NOT A PISTOL ITS A LAUCHER
True, but 99% of people seeing the video will associate it with a gun because it looks like a gun. But yeah it's a high power projectile launcher not a gun and Byrna is very clear on that distinction.
