When asked 10 years from now, to describe some of the most memorable gaming moments, my first time sailing in Valheim will be one that is mentioned. I've been gaming on a pc since the 80's, so that is saying a lot.
I was too busy getting harassed by Serpents every six meters in every direction to be able to enjoy it. I heard everyone felt epic sailing their first time, but I just hated it. Still do. The sailing mechanics are absolutely astonishing, but those serpents are just fucking annoying since all they do is spawn right in front of you so close there's not a way in hell you can brake or turn before they aggro. Then you have to change course and pick up the wind to shrug them off or shoot them to death, causing countless unnecessary delays. Horrible feature honestly.
I was out on a solo scouting run at night on a raft when we got hit by a raid, so I did a 180 and my friend finished it before I got back. then he goes "well at least there aren't sea monsters right?" sea serpent: *SCREEEEEEEEE* YOU JINXED MEEEEEEEEE ...I then proceeded to have my raft eaten and i went out beating the shit out of it and drowned
Sailing in Valheim is so.. freeing. Like I am home.. or on my way home after a long journey. They completely nailed the atmosphere. It's difficult to manage to give a 36 year old man memories that will be treated like nostalgia.. but Valheim genuinely managed just that. I long to log on and have a new adventure, but we're waiting between builds to have Hardcore runs as that gives us new content each time and is often just long enough to forget the smaller details and have to redo the training. That moment when we get our first ship is *every damn time*, and without fail, such a blissful experience. The map opens up to you and now you are going to explore.
I remember when me and the boys built a Dakar and just sailed to the unknown. We faced many perils, from defending our boat from hordes of zombies after it crashed in the swamp, to been forced into making an outpost in the plains after a deathquitos just murdered one of our companion while sailing. Those moments will stick in my soul for ever
Nothing better than standing at the prow of your longship in a thunderstorm with a strong wind in your sail, a fine axe in your hand and the spray of the sea on your brow, looking for somewhere to raid! Skål
I remember my first time sailing on the sea. On my little dinky raft. I had absolutely no idea what to expect and I was completely shitting myself at every little wave. Knowing full well if anything happens, my loot would be lost to the ocean below (turns out this isn't the case.) It honestly was just, an amazing experience. Sailing for the first time in Valheim is such an amazing and terrifying experience. Truly. One I wish I could live again.
We were 3 friends to sails to the unknow, with the most shitty boat, we were so much afraid because we were caught in a storm ! So much emotions, i can't even listen to this music cause it's makes me feel so much nostalgic. You're right, i think it is one of the most intense video-games experience i can remember. I really hope valheim will keep exists and that we will be able to explore new biomes.
@@morgancaors180 I actually got caught in a storm at the very end of my journey too! I was like "I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN! PLEASE CROSS THE FINISH LINE AND SHORE ON THAT ISLAND!!" XDD
@@derrick.t4031 Yeah !! Finally the fact that it's so hard to make up your stuff create a huge feeling of "I DON'T WANNA FUCKING DIE BRUUU" And everything is more intense. Finally, after that epic and frightening trip, we arrived on an island, very confident, and we got all killed in 30sec. This is Valheim, one of the best game i've ever played.
Hearing this music for the first time in every game is a special moment. I truly feel like I am about to see things I never seen before every new game when I get this music kicked in. What a stylistic game. 8 million copies sold is frankly not enough people to experience this masterpiece of art and play.
The hardest music to hear a lot of in Valheim, because every time it properly starts and you're at full sail, you cross over a tiny spec of submerged Meadows or whatever and the music gets interrupted.
I was really hungry one night sailing. "I'll get up and grab a snack real quick. Nothing will happen in 2 minutes." I come back to find my boat half destroyed by a serpent. What followed was a long night of retrieving my watery grave with my friend.
Last weekend i was part of a small crew on an ocean going yacht. We are out in the Andaman Sea sailing around the islands. We had good winds, an epic sea and when we were settled at full sail, an amazing wind and 6/8 blue sky i put this on full blast on the sound system. It was EPIC. The crew just wanted to leave it on a loop. Its the first piece of music i ever heard that truly captures that kind of sailing. I will never forget last weekend. Thanks to the devs for getting an awesome composer and making a game i couldn’t turn off. 👏🏻👏🏻
this music is special because you know you're gonna sail to the unknown. Like when you're exploring land, the new things you discover are always unexpected. You just bump into it. But sailing, you just go on an adventure, go to the unknow on the ocean, you just go on an adventure, and this music perfeclty describes this adventure thrill.
The greatest thing about this music is that it fits the game so well - but it also makes any other sailing game feel instantly 10x more amazing when you put it on.
I started playing with a large group of guys from rust, the server was always full and prosperous. I remember being the first one to actually sail into the oceans and I ran across the floating islands first, and then a serpent later on. Completely took the crew by surprise because no one had known anything about the game yet. We later cast off in a small boat fully geared up with arrows, sank, came back with 2 more boats fully loaded and killed our first serpent. I vividly remember the world we had and the experiences and buildings we had. I really wish the devs would care a little more about the game and finish it because I'd love to have another home on the docks.
I feel sad for everyone that has already experienced their first serpent encounter while this music is playing, because they'll never experience it for the first time again. So exhilarating!
My friends always were like ooh your gonna meet the serpent i never did in my 100Hours of playtime. We killed only one in the whole time we just dont meet them
I remember first time me and my friends made the bronze nail boat and sailed. And we found our first swamp like 15-20 minutes away from our base and only went close to the shoreline. A slime managed to poison us all and only I survived, sailed back to pick them all up, and sail to get our stuff. This time a slime managed to jump INTO our boat and kill us all. So we just had to run around and gather new leather and stuff to make a new boat to go back and get out stuff again. As we got there our stuff was surrounded by enemies and we had to make a run for it, and I grabbed my stuff and managed to get on the first boat to take it back too. This time "only" one of my friends died again. Was among the most fun I've ever had in a game in recent years.
There's mods that allow you to sail with your entire base. I PRAY the devs add something like that for the Ocean biome update, and add a few terrifying new sea monstrosities to keep it interesting.
The first time you sail and hear this, you have achieved a true gamer moment.

Hey mate, just replay. and take your time. Every run has new challenges. Make a run to just build. That's always a challenge.

The sailing controls are rough at first but once you get used to them, sailing is actually fun. I like how wavy the seas can be.

I feel like this absolutely fits the narrative of the game. For some reason, it gives me "Sailing away to the afterlife" vibes.
They nailed this one. Really makes you feel like you are on a grand adventure/carrying out a gravely important task
