the 2023 rex looks so good imo. would the rangefinder being in the correct position make it better? sure. but i'd prefer this new helmet to no rangefinder at all.

How so, exactly? And don't get me wrong here, I absolutely love the way the current P2 Rex looks as well, and maybe even prefer it to the old P2 Rex, but still though. How has it aged like milk, exactly if I may inquire? Because I just don't see it aside from the painfully obvious lack of a range finder that just makes a Captain Rex...a CAPTAIN REX! lol. Never felt right to me to ever see a Rex minifig WITHOUT a range finder attached. His look just isn't complete without one, y'know? It's become apart of his overall look and feel through the years. But almost everything else, I thought, was pretty much nailed to a T. Yes, sure, the arms could've indeed used some arm printing and not just a straight, bland blue all around and the mouth piece COULD be a bit bigger but other than that, it's really not that bad of a figure. The mouth piece is honestly pretty accurate as that's how his mouth piece always looked like in the show, in a way. It was generally more smaller and narrower than most other P2 clone's mouth pieces, you can tell especially from Umbara scenes on Google Images. Overall, it's a solid minifig in it's own right even to this day, it's good. But I might agree that the newest P2 Rex is better, and great, for sure.
I think the reason why people think it has aged like milk is because it is largely inaccurate because there are tally marks on his torso and legs which is not accurate at all, and like you mentioned it has no range finder and finally it is strangely dirty next to his molded marks which is just weird.

I think the dirt all across his armor, especially around the torso, is not only accurate (you can tell there's a LOT of burn marks, ash, and some yellowish residue allll over after close observation of various general P2 Rex pics also on Google), but it's also really neat looking, for me at least haha. I know there's this whole debate about this, but I like my clones dirty just as much as I like them shiny and clean! ;) I guess it depends on the clone for me though, really. For Rex, he looks fitting all dirtied up. His P2 version, at least. Shows he's progressed and gained experience thru the war, much like other surviving clones around his age.
I would love if lego made a helmet mold with the holes lower, were they make more sense and then make new visor molds that fit the lower holes. I feel like for a collector set this expensive they could have tried sth like that. Also I wish there was a cloth waist cape instead of a printed one (for all the clones), especially cause the printing doesn't go around the legs and it just looks kind of off to me.
I realized that the ARC Trooper helmet they used for the battle pack is pretty much a Phase 2 helmet with accessory holes in the right place, I doubt they have the mold still around considering they used it in just that one set to my knowledge, but if they did all they would have to do is round off the fin and it would be perfect
That's what I've been saying from the start, all they had to do was make a new visor mold, and the drama surrounding clones would've been completely avoided.
I agree that new p2 rex is great, only thing that is a bit off in my opinion, except for the kama, is ammo pouch being too big but i don't care much really
This is just my take but I think the best way to improve the 2020 official rex is to buy a CAC Kama as well as their folded pauldron and one of their gray rangefinders
Gosh, i remember being so disappointed by the captain Rex back in 2013. Him not having a rangefinder was the reason I never got that set (plus the figure is just kind of ugly in general) it’s nice to see all the improvements made on the new one

And there's genuine problems and inaccuracies with certain modern Lego Star Wars figs, you can't deny that. The Fox especially is a gross misrepresentation of the character. How do you screw him up so badly? Lego is a multibillion dollar mega corporation which stands by their own words: Only the best is good enough! Ok, so then why not make these the best then?? These aren't even complicated and over the top critiques we are making here. Just make them accurate to the shows they are directly based on for crying out loud lol. Don't make his chest plate some type of weird pink, put the white on the RIGHT side of his armor, better printing, etc, etc. Not hard at all. They've done it before, they can do it again.

@Vandicoup Lego didn't print pink on Fox. They printed white, which, because it was printed on red, looks more pink. I agree that Fox has inaccuracies, but this stupid "pink printing" problem is NOT a new problem and has always been the case when Lego prints white on a darker color (go look at the bomb squad trooper from 2011 for example).
I bought the venator day one (I swear it wasn't just for the Rex minifig, I've been hyped for this set since it was rumored in April, AMAZING set btw). The new Rex is such a gorgeous minifigure, the helmet holes allow for so much customization, blows the 2013 one completely out of the water (which really isn't saying much that figure looks so bad lol). Still going to keep my 2013 rex for collector's sake tho even if he is REALLY ugly lol

Here’s a tip: if you don’t want to pay £60 for p1 Rex buy the helmet then buy the armoured clone from the clone walker pack swap the helmet and give him blue arms
Everyone is complaining about Rex’s ammo pouch and Pauldron, if that’s your thing, you can do it, but these would not fit Lego’s “cartoon style” especially for the micro fighter, plus the Kama is printed because it will tear and you won’t be able to sit the figure down, maybe another Ucs set gives Rex a cloth Kama.
He also ordered off of Amazon. He ones that J’s little things has an Amazon will typically have one exclusive figure and fill the rest with other Chinese knockoff brands. He probably would have had a better experience buying from his actual site.

Just a couple wipes, as always, and it looks perfect and brand new again! I love that they maintained the kama and pauldron for the 2013 P2! Big mistake not adding in any kama whatsoever to the new current P2!! Printed kamas will forever SUCK and they're the ones that TRULY age like MILK. >;(
Newest one is def a huge improvement, but I still prefer the torso and the physical kama. Those were always fire and very accurate to TCW while the newest one's torso is a mix of movie realistic + TCW and it's alright but they need to be more consistent is all. Make an animated Rex and a realistic Rex if that's the case. No need to mix the two together lol. Star Wars themselves don't. Just look at how different Rex looks in Ahsoka vs. animation!

@@Vandicoup I just think the old Captain Rex isn't that great as people make him out to be. You may be right on the mouth piece, but I still think the visor is too large and bulky and not as sleek (it's kind of hard to describe for me). The print is cleaner overall on the new one and I don't mind the helmet holes or the rather large weapon pouch. The only bad thing about the new one is the missing cloth around the waist obviously. Again, the old fig isn't bad, it's just that the new one just looks better with an added waistcape, the rangefinder and the sleeker visor imo

I just saw a side-by-side comparison from a recent MandR short, newest one looks more cleaner by far. I guess it's because it's more squared-off than rounded on the 2013 one, which is why it looks better and more accurate and really does sell this whole Rex look waay more than prior. @@Vandicoup cheers man, same here. Kind of rare to have a respectful discussion in Lego communities (especially Star Wars) nowadays, it's always nice to keep things civil. And now that I think about it, it'd really be nice if we had gotten a smaller pauldron, but I guess Lego stopped producing the smaller Stormtrooper type pauldron some time ago which is why they're sticking with the big pauldron size. I actually forgot Lego had this smaller one in production for the artillery Stormtrooper. Those arms really are too nice to be covered up just like that. Still better than no pauldron at all, tho a cloth kama should've been a must, but I guess printed waist capes are the future from now on (sadly)
I’m sorry but rewatching this. The p2 Rex did not age like milk at all. Idk how you can say that and then say the 20p2 Rex is much better. Which it is certainly not because of the major inaccuracy’s in it and it having a printed waistcape.

I like you, Mayday, but don't you go dissing my boy J's Little Things. I've been buying from him for years before you even had a RUclips channel and have followed his store from Ebay to Etsy to Bonanza and now to his own website. J's is the most trustworthy seller I've ever bought from and, while he is selling knockoff figures, most of them are pretty good and also very cheap at only $20 for ten clones. I've only ever been missing a couple of things in one or two orders from him and, once I let him know, he sent those missing things immediately. You can dislike knockoffs, but don't talk about J's being "hot garbage."

In case you haven't seen, in the official set photos, Rex has a pauldron, so if you get the figure, you'll only need to add the kama

How so, exactly? And don't get me wrong here, I absolutely love the way the current P2 Rex looks as well, and maybe even prefer it to the old P2 Rex, but still though. How has it aged like milk, exactly if I may inquire? Because I just don't see it aside from the painfully obvious lack of a range finder that just makes a Captain Rex...a CAPTAIN REX! lol. Never felt right to me to ever see a Rex minifig WITHOUT a range finder attached. His look just isn't complete without one, y'know? It's become apart of his overall look and feel through the years. But almost everything else, I thought, was pretty much nailed to a T. Yes, sure, the arms could've indeed used some arm printing and not just a straight, bland blue all around and the mouth piece COULD be a bit bigger but other than that, it's really not that bad of a figure. The mouth piece is honestly pretty accurate as that's how his mouth piece always looked like in the show, in a way. It was generally more smaller and narrower than most other P2 clone's mouth pieces, you can tell especially from Umbara scenes on Google Images. Overall, it's a solid minifig in it's own right even to this day, it's good. But I might agree that the newest P2 Rex is better, and great, for sure.
@@Vandicoup I just think the old Captain Rex isn't that great as people make him out to be. You may be right on the mouth piece, but I still think the visor is too large and bulky and not as sleek (it's kind of hard to describe for me). The print is cleaner overall on the new one and I don't mind the helmet holes or the rather large weapon pouch. The only bad thing about the new one is the missing cloth around the waist obviously. Again, the old fig isn't bad, it's just that the new one just looks better with an added waistcape, the rangefinder and the sleeker visor imo

And I think it'd be absolute perfection if the pauldron was shortened too. It's more accurate + shows off the first ever, newly-printed arms for Rex that much more rather than covering up all that goodness. Kind of defeats the purpose and ruins those gorgeous printed arms Rex gets. And yea, I can see your point about the visors now too. I just saw a side-by-side comparison from a recent MandR short, newest one looks more cleaner by far. I guess it's because it's more squared-off than rounded on the 2013 one, which is why it looks better and more accurate and really does sell this whole Rex look waay more than prior. @@Vandicoup cheers man, same here. Kind of rare to have a respectful discussion in Lego communities (especially Star Wars) nowadays, it's always nice to keep things civil. And now that I think about it, it'd really be nice if we had gotten a smaller pauldron, but I guess Lego stopped producing the smaller Stormtrooper type pauldron some time ago which is why they're sticking with the big pauldron size. I actually forgot Lego had this smaller one in production for the artillery Stormtrooper. Those arms really are too nice to be covered up just like that. Still better than no pauldron at all, tho a cloth kama should've been a must, but I guess printed waist capes are the future from now on (sadly)
The worst part about both p2 rexes are the cloth pauldrons. They are both way too big.

I’m sorry but rewatching this. The p2 Rex did not age like milk at all. Idk how you can say that and then say the 20p2 Rex is much better. Which it is certainly not because of the major inaccuracy’s in it and it having a printed waistcape.

Imo, the 2013 p2 rex aged even better then the p1. When i saw how ugly will be the new one i didnt hesitate to buy the 2013 for 100$. Its perfect in nearly all ways.
Right?! People are tripping with the old P2 Rex. It still looks gorgeous to this day sitting atop my dresser rn, even with all the dust it's collected. Just a couple wipes, as always, and it looks perfect and brand new again! I love that they maintained the kama and pauldron for the 2013 P2! Big mistake not adding in any kama whatsoever to the new current P2!! Printed kamas will forever SUCK and they're the ones that TRULY age like MILK. >;(

I like you, Mayday, but don't you go dissing my boy J's Little Things. I've been buying from him for years before you even had a RUclips channel and have followed his store from Ebay to Etsy to Bonanza and now to his own website. J's is the most trustworthy seller I've ever bought from and, while he is selling knockoff figures, most of them are pretty good and also very cheap at only $20 for ten clones. I've only ever been missing a couple of things in one or two orders from him and, once I let him know, he sent those missing things immediately. You can dislike knockoffs, but don't talk about J's being "hot garbage."
