Yeah I didn't remember how it worked in DD1 but this is the worst part with vocation switching. I did just find you can deposit or withdraw multiple though the other day so that was cool.

@@alemswazzu another thing that pissed me off the most is the equipment slot. In DD1 we have individual clothing slot like head/arm/underarmor/armor/boot/cape, the diversity is INSANE! Why did they cut that away? merging arm/armor/underarmor into 1 is such a big L.
Its such a shame because no words can describe how i absolutely love the combat, i have never play anything like that before especially the way you fight big enemies ( i was already blown away by DD1 combat ). And the graphics and level design, man, this game is beautiful its almost remind me of Red Dead 2 enviroments.

It's a shame because the game really is good beneath these obtuse systems.

A couple of things to mention.
    1. Dragon's Dogma 1 had all of the vocations unlocked the moment you visit the capital city for the very first time.
    2. I can assure you, that nobody will defend the DD2 soundtrack, because the DD1 soundtrack exists. Into Free, and Coils of Light are certified bangers, there is a reason why OST from DD1 is as DLC for DD2.
    3. Yes, I was disappointed with lack of variety, considering that for some reason they removed bosses from DD1 like Hydra, Cockatrice, or Beholder(giant evil eye mob)
    4. Once again, in Dragon's Dogma 1 you could switch between gear from storage anywhere you wanted, not sure why it is not here in DD2.
    5. Story is an absolute downgrade, the personal main issue is that story related, there's almost zero Dragon in Dragon's Dogma 2, it is a far cry from DD1 Dragon which was an amazing character(also they get ride of iconic VA of this Dragon)
    6. Ultimately the game suffers almost the very same issues everyone had with DD1, but DD1 had DLC that fixed quite a lot of issues, which they did not too takes note from and seemingly decided to take a step backward.
    7. The end-game of DD1 is vastly superior to DD2, DD1 has two different end-games, a Base game, and DLC, and both of them alone dwarf the DD2 one.
    8. Also, DD1 had a much cooler final fight, where after the Dragon, if you had online mode on, you eventually fought another player's main character who manage beat the game before you.
Not-so-fun-fact: Capcom did not have faith in this game in the first place, if you look up credits, you can see that on DD2, it worked around 300 people, vs other Capcom tiles like RE4, or Street Fighter 6 which had around 1000 people.
Not-so-fun fact 2: Director of Base Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2 was Hideaki Itsuno, however, the person responsible for DLC and the Online version of the game was one of the Designers, Kento Kinoshita. This may give us some clue, as to why all the changes and improvements that DLC did to DD1 were not in DD2.

    • @Aedrion-
      @Aedrion- 6 месяцев назад +31

I played and loved DD1, the story was weird but still felt coherent and cool. Grigori was a total chad - David Lodge's voice uplifted the cool dialogue to the next level too - and fighting him felt epic. The endgame was unique and felt like another challenge, which made sense considering the very last fight.
I don't have time to rant about all the things this game does outright worse. This is a flat out downgrade in all but graphics. I'm glad I waited to buy it because I won't until they fix all this.

      Disagree on the end-game.
Everfall was bland IMO, and even though I got frustrated at DD2's end-game that I won't openly type due to spoilers, I found it more engaging than just grinding RC. Story-wise I felt it also transitioned into endgame less awkwardly than the first game.
The Dragon is absolutely a worse fight in DD2 though... I guess. I honestly can't remember it too well, whish is why I assume it is lol

@@ideal9544 I played an unreasonable amount of DD:DA (around 2400 hours to this day). There are obviously different topics that could be brought up. The first game with DA installed did a few things better for sure, the end game loop for example, but this one doesn't annoy me too much yet, since I'm almost certain that DD2 will receive a dlc which should achieve the same. The quests seem to be a bit better than in the first game, so no complaints here. The story is just as incompetent, so that's not a let down, for I expected it to be bad from the very start. I could go on, but I think you catch my drift by now. I would've mentioned the performance issues as a big minus point, if I would've experienced any, which I didn't oddly enough.
I'll have a lot more to complain about if the DLC doesn't do much in regards of end game content. I wouldn't mind a few more vocations and armour sets either. Getting my Dragons Dripma back is the top priority for me.
As it stands now, I put 280 hours into DD2, that's a bit more time than I spent in DD1 before DA came out. I'm certain that the armour system isn't getting fixed tho, that's why it's the only thing that really annoys me.

The story was clearly an afterthought but I think what the developers underestimated here is that the story and characters are a hook for you to motivate you to get invested in the world and go exploring. Mindless walking around and killing monsters is fun but when you have a well made setup and lore for the worlds you’re in makes you wanna do all the side stuff even more. It’s the reason that I do absolutely every side quest in the witcher 3 every time i do another playthrough and the reason why I’m enthralled with baldurs gate 3 and try to explore the entire map before doing any main quests cause I wanna get the most out of its world and not miss out or get locked out of a quest in that game. Of course those two games are the best the genre has to offer, but in this game I don’t care at all about who’s who and why I’m doing what i’m doing. It’s just where can I get the best loot and where’s the next enemy to kill. Nothing about its storytelling incentivizes me to explore anything or get invested in the world.

If you look into the original dev diaries, the lore was the forefront, but unfortunately tons just got cut, additional races and their backstories, and entire extra half of the map, on top of additional land mass, and a multiverse theory involving worlds stacked upon worlds and an endless tower (the everfall) which connects them, it woulda been way cooler than what we got, unfortunately it looks like BOTH games now cut more than half of what the creator originally intended

@@CaeridLock. In this instance it matters less what the "creator" "originally" "intended" because if they were competent they would have started with things that impact the player feel and story and worked from there. Just a few corrections I feel I should mention at 20:40.
Buying a round of beer supposedly makes npcs forgive you. If you accidentally angered, npcs in that city may attack you on sight and buying a round supposedly stops that. It also raises affection with everyone in that town if you wanted to romance someone (despite how lacklustre the romance system is)
Going to the spa gives a buff and removes scars that build-up on your pawn from deaths. It also raises pawn affection (which impacts the ending)

    • @IDark_IHammer

This game is full of secret mechanics and interactions. I feel like it has two types of exploration. One being exploring the map and the other exploring how deep the mechanics and systems are. I keep finding things I had no idea were possible. The main moment I had like this was ending the quest for the guy being poisoned by the nun in vernworth. It felt a bit abrupt but I thought fuck it I’m going to go kidnap the doctor using a ferrystone and bring him back to the church but it turned out you could convince him to go help after the quest had ended and there was absolutely no indication that was an option other than my own intuition.

29:30 Japanese game devs are known to be very traditional and not evolve (I know I hate it too) in more than UI, alot of gameplay aswell. not only the dlc, the online game too, Dragon's Dogma Online was crazy good and crazy annoying to play outside of japan, it had a lot of enemy variety despite the many recolors (literal recolors like a white Chimera with different magic), the Sphinx came from online actually, it was the first introduced new boss in Online if I remember well. There where even raids of up to 12 players fightings caves, rading a castle full of monsters or the one i really liked that was fighting a huge tree fella that had people on the ground fighting while others where climbing into the thing, it also had interesting classes like Alchemist or Sceptor which is similar to the spearhand they introduced, they could have added the Alchemist too but didn't.
Hope the expansion dlc they will do will add in more stuff from online cus its such a wasted potential/material that is locked behind a game that can't even be played to its fullest or even it middest with the current private server development.

Also, can I rant about this games bullshit ending? So, I loved the first game, so much. David Lodge as Gregori, the big red dragon, is excellent and I was so glad he came back for this game.. Until they totally butchered his role. Like he shows up, he sounds out of breath the entire time, literally pulls your "lover" out of his mystery pocket despite legit just being summoned, gives you a very not meaningful choice and is all like "Aight, hop on, lets go fight" and then yaps until you reach the arena to fight him.
Now, how was he handled in the first game? Zealot so full of himself is chanting Gregori's name all excited and Gregori fucking lands on the dude, smashes him and then makes fun of him. Tells you to seek him out in the old ruins when you think you're ready. When you eventually get there, he has your lover, but at least there was any window of time at all where that was possible, right? But instead of just giving you a choice, the first game also included a huge plot twist here, how the Duke of the city, all this time, was also an Arisen and that that Duke once sacrificed their lover so the dragon would leave and let him become the ruler of the city, now giving you the choice to essentially overthrow the Duke and take their place by doing the same now. It was a pretty cool wow moment because there was a sidequest to speak to the Duke's special lady and find out how much of a whackjob he is because he's so full of regret, choking the dutchess while shout a name that was, at the time, kinda random? That was the lover he sacrificed! (Says a lot that I remember all of this from like 8 years ago and can't fucking tell you the name of the bad guys in 2 even after your video straight up told me like twice, don't care).
So you choose to fight and Gregori starts spewing fire. You're 'lover' narrowly escapes, but the exit gets blocked by debris, so you have to run down a long corridor. Camera turns around as you're running to see Gregori plowing through the hall to chase you and if you run out of stamina, you die here. You escape through a door and his head gets stuck in it, so you're fighting just his head for a minute until he breaks free. Then you fight him in this big room until he smashes through the roof and you have to chase him outside. Gotta sprint across these massive sections of old castle walls while he does aggressive flybys, making the walls crumble and fall apart - again, if you don't make it across in time, you die. You reach a tower and climb to the top to shoot him out of the sky with a ballista and he plows through the tower as a result of a direct hit, seemingly eating you. Black screen. Suddenly, you're hanging onto his back as he flies. He's flying through clouds of harpies to try and shake you off while you climb up hi back to the spot over his chest and stab him, then you both fall into this volcano arena where now, and ONLY now, does it play out like in 2.
Also, I hated the final 'boss'. There actually was a final boss in the first game, full of more massive plot twists and a super cool mechanic involving your own character that made the end of the second playthrough a wild experience I never would have expected. But in 2, it's just a walking segment and then a cutscene? I wanted to fight the damn giant dragon! wtf??
I like the combat and the graphics, but in EVERY other aspect, it's either a downgrade or an outright butchering.

Let’s do it again.” It definitely feels last minute slapped together. They could have added so much more to make the story better and the game more dynamic. To make the queen regent more evil throw in greed, lust, envy, and some power aspects in there. High prices, give the brothel ladies more of a story, have the queen’s army harassing near by villages, and have her sending assassins after you. Then give her a twist of an ending. Oh! It would be easy to mix co-up in this by allowing one player to host a game (who will remain their own arisen) while the other players will take control over their own main pawn, spawning in the Host's game (but retaining their own skills and gear.)
With a max of 3 additional players, the third taking control of the Host's main pawn (like before, just looking like the pawn, but keeping their abilities and gear as Arisen.)
I'm also no expert, but I believe peer to peer co-up would be low maintenance on their servers, as it will mostly rely on the Host's game/pc

A big gripe I have that doesn't seem to have come up is Dungeons. there's two big ruins in the main quests that seem like a setup for a mid and large sized dungeon and both of them are just an elevator. The part of the game with the would-be large dungeon even has you pursuing a group of people and they go up wooden scaffolding that randomly breaks after they use it forcing you to use the other path, a classic "you're chasing the bad guy but he doesn't have to go through the dungeon" trope, and yet the next room is just the elevator the bad guy opted out of for the sake of taking the rickety horribly unsafe wooden scaffolding stairs.
Also that group does contain the false Sovran and he does either die at your hands at the top or flee after failing to stop your progress, but TBH I forgot he was there until I did it a second time AND was formulating my steam review about the story so the fact that you missed it in the same way just confirms to me that it's so forgettable unimportant he might as well have not been there.
An additional story gripe, the "dragon" in this game never shows up until it gets summoned at the end, so in the previous game where it was at least mentioned as wreaking havoc elsewhere while you try to take it down, this Dragon just picked an arisen and phoned it in, dipping out back to the rift to watch interdimensional TV or something.
Also the extent they go to to name things like 'skie" to maintain a theme no doubt trying to dodge some maybe copywrite issues with some other names is just... childish and bad this time around. I was really impressed with DD1 having shit like anodyn and how they spoke because it was fresh but real words, and this time we get things like Dangoun's Skie or some shit when it could just be dragoon's jump and even though we know that's Final Fantasy I'm pretty sure copyright law doesn't cover that deep of a nuance. A dragon knight jumping with a spear is not owned by Square Enix.

Not to mention them getting lost every 20 seconds if you turn a corner too quick. There’s absolutely no development from the first game in this regard, and it’s really disappointing.

Story wise I feel like I 'get' what they wanted to do, the blue boi ghost is basically using you all for his amusement, the reason everything feels like a stage play is because IT IS, you're are there to be the hero and win the day and everything revolves around lining up for you to do it so the cycle can repeat, there's constant talk among NPCs that that dont know if they made their choices because they truly want to and in the rare time an NPC would make one that prevents you from fulfilling the role as hero, they're 'changed' as seen when you get the Godsbane.
The Dragon knows his role will never change and has become so apathetic he doesnt care anymore and is subtly guiding you to making true change. Similar vibes are felt with key characters that are outside the cycle like the Maesters, Dragon Forged and Mad King.

To give the game some credit back you seem to have missed many interactions with PNCs, including quest lines and lore explanations.
You would have understood who the watcher is, how to reach the volcanic island, even the story behind the little tree in the ending credits. The exploration in this game isn't just running around finding chests, it's also going back to places you've already visited to talk to PNC you've already met before.
That being said, it's not a natural thing to do and I even finished the game a first time in 20 hours not knowing this. Took 80 hours for the second playthrough.

    • @nathanzisse
      @nathanzisse 7 месяцев назад +13

yeah I agree that Jack has missed some interactions in the game, but honestly I doubt that would've changed his view of the story.
I've played DD2 for over 160 hours and did virtually everything there was to be done in the game, and the story is still a mess, with some plots that make no sense and some storylines that seem clearly unfinished or rushed. The game is fun when looking at combat and exploration, but the story is TOTALLY not the reason to play it. It lacks the charisma of the first game. It's weird to see Itsuno speaking about the game with such high praise, when it's clear that the game shines for technical reasons (clearly not speaking about performance here), but not for narrative ones.
To add insult to injury, game progression is all over the place, with some oddly terrible choices such as locking certain classes until the late game

Also on the character motivation stuff, they do have motivations, but the plot will move forward regardless of you doing their quest or not. Also some no context issues where just not having paid attention to some previous dialogs or scenes, like the girl who nurses you at her house, like literally moments before you get the flashback of you fighting the dragon and you getting literally roasted alive after saving her, she then nurses you, that is why it was the second time it happened. She has some degree of importance in her little village becuase she is the chief lol, they established her importance on the shooting the Griffin down scene but that shit is not enough to establish it xd, i only noticed this after finishing her questline where she becomes chief of a different village lol

There’s a point to the main story being completely unrelated to the dragon. The dragon is pretty much like a force of nature that chooses you, and then you have to get strong enough that when he comes back you dont die. The main story of both games is basically a long training arc of your character preparing to fight the dragon. I do recommend playing the first game before the second, because of lot of lore makes more sense, and there’s a lot of hidden things that I picked up on that new players wouldn’t have. Also do every main quest before the move on part. Like Brant’s quests, do all of them before going on to the ceremony. They’re very easy most of the time and give more explanation for what’s going on.
Edit: The whole becoming king thing is a false ending. There’s another like 4th of the game to go through.

I played the first game and Rook (the starting Pawn, basically) had importance in it
In the first minutes, he spawns in the starting town with the added explanation about what a Pawn is. He can aid you should you want to explore the road for a moment, and can be marked as important if you want to hire him again into your team later on
In essence, Rook is an introduction to the player about the mechanics of the Pawns. Despite the repetitive dialoge, this made me respect the guy
Wich makes it a shame that in the second game he just goes in and dies early. Like, let him stay as a teammate until you customize your own Pawn at least

with choosing a personality for a pawn, they could have made it so that, at some various points in the story,
your pawn just slightly changes in personality depending on the chosen personality.
the inventory and its managment is really badly designed, but it is actually so easy to get it right... you just need to follow 3 simple rules:
    - use intuitive symbols
    - color-code different types of items for instant visual recognition (hello "Starfield")
    - make it easy to use without any long down-time
and BOOM, you will have a inventory, which wont get you a trophy but people wont hate it either!!

man i expect for the game to improve its essential since the combat still holds up and thats given time seeing other things needs improvements. man Elden Ring adn Armored Core 6 spoiled me w/ how these masocore titles are streamlined w/ QoL, UX, and accesibility.

I honestly think if the game had co-op I would never put the game down. After 100ish hours I don't know if I'll pick it up again
