@@ideal9544 I played an unreasonable amount of DD:DA (around 2400 hours to this day). There are obviously different topics that could be brought up. The first game with DA installed did a few things better for sure, the end game loop for example, but this one doesn't annoy me too much yet, since I'm almost certain that DD2 will receive a dlc which should achieve the same. The quests seem to be a bit better than in the first game, so no complaints here. The story is just as incompetent, so that's not a let down, for I expected it to be bad from the very start. I could go on, but I think you catch my drift by now. I would've mentioned the performance issues as a big minus point, if I would've experienced any, which I didn't oddly enough.
I'll have a lot more to complain about if the DLC doesn't do much in regards of end game content. I wouldn't mind a few more vocations and armour sets either. Getting my Dragons Dripma back is the top priority for me.
As it stands now, I put 280 hours into DD2, that's a bit more time than I spent in DD1 before DA came out. I'm certain that the armour system isn't getting fixed tho, that's why it's the only thing that really annoys me.

A couple of things to mention.
    1. Dragon's Dogma 1 had all of the vocations unlocked the moment you visit the capital city for the very first time.
    2. I can assure you, that nobody will defend the DD2 soundtrack, because the DD1 soundtrack exists. Into Free, and Coils of Light are certified bangers, there is a reason why OST from DD1 is as DLC for DD2.
    3. Yes, I was disappointed with lack of variety, considering that for some reason they removed bosses from DD1 like Hydra, Cockatrice, or Beholder(giant evil eye mob)
    4. Once again, in Dragon's Dogma 1 you could switch between gear from storage anywhere you wanted, not sure why it is not here in DD2.
    5. Story is an absolute downgrade, the personal main issue is that story related, there's almost zero Dragon in Dragon's Dogma 2, it is a far cry from DD1 Dragon which was an amazing character(also they get ride of iconic VA of this Dragon)
    6. Ultimately the game suffers almost the very same issues everyone had with DD1, but DD1 had DLC that fixed quite a lot of issues, which they did not too takes note from and seemingly decided to take a step backward.
    7. The end-game of DD1 is vastly superior to DD2, DD1 has two different end-games, a Base game, and DLC, and both of them alone dwarf the DD2 one.
    8. Also, DD1 had a much cooler final fight, where after the Dragon, if you had online mode on, you eventually fought another player's main character who manage beat the game before you.
Not-so-fun-fact: Capcom did not have faith in this game in the first place, if you look up credits, you can see that on DD2, it worked around 300 people, vs other Capcom tiles like RE4, or Street Fighter 6 which had around 1000 people.
Not-so-fun fact 2: Director of Base Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2 was Hideaki Itsuno, however, the person responsible for DLC and the Online version of the game was one of the Designers, Kento Kinoshita. This may give us some clue, as to why all the changes and improvements that DLC did to DD1 were not in DD2.

    • @Aedrion-
      @Aedrion- 17 дней назад +1

I played and loved DD1, the story was weird but still felt coherent and cool. Grigori was a total chad - David Lodge's voice uplifted the cool dialogue to the next level too - and fighting him felt epic. The endgame was unique and felt like another challenge, which made sense considering the very last fight.
I don't have time to rant about all the things this game does outright worse. This is a flat out downgrade in all but graphics. I'm glad I waited to buy it because I won't until they fix all this.

The story was clearly an afterthought but I think what the developers underestimated here is that the story and characters are a hook for you to motivate you to get invested in the world and go exploring. Mindless walking around and killing monsters is fun but when you have a well made setup and lore for the worlds you’re in makes you wanna do all the side stuff even more. It’s the reason that I do absolutely every side quest in the witcher 3 every time i do another playthrough and the reason why I’m enthralled with baldurs gate 3 and try to explore the entire map before doing any main quests cause I wanna get the most out of its world and not miss out or get locked out of a quest in that game. Of course those two games are the best the genre has to offer, but in this game I don’t care at all about who’s who and why I’m doing what i’m doing. It’s just where can I get the best loot and where’s the next enemy to kill. Nothing about its storytelling incentivizes me to explore anything or get invested in the world.

Buying a round of beer supposedly makes npcs forgive you. If you accidentally angered, npcs in that city may attack you on sight and buying a round supposedly stops that. It also raises affection with everyone in that town if you wanted to romance someone (despite how lacklustre the romance system is)

-DD1 had a coherent story to follow. Even the end boss post game was more story driven and the twist reveal was perfect back than.
-There's actually LESS pawn customization with personality in DD2.
-You could legit sit down with your pawn first game and tell them to shut up.
-I MISS THROWING OIL BOTTLES AT GOBLINS AND SETTING THEM ON FIRE RAH
-Also store vendors would unlock more end game items if you higher thier affinity or do quests.

Let’s do it again.” It definitely feels last minute slapped together. They could have added so much more to make the story better and the game more dynamic. To make the queen regent more evil throw in greed, lust, envy, and some power aspects in there. High prices, give the brothel ladies more of a story, have the queen’s army harassing near by villages, and have her sending assassins after you. Then give her a twist of an ending. Oh! That elf guy comes over to my house in Vermund once in a while to ask me to go on a quest with him. Same with the old knight guy but in Harve village.

Story wise I feel like I 'get' what they wanted to do, the blue boi ghost is basically using you all for his amusement, the reason everything feels like a stage play is because IT IS, you're are there to be the hero and win the day and everything revolves around lining up for you to do it so the cycle can repeat, there's constant talk among NPCs that that dont know if they made their choices because they truly want to and in the rare time an NPC would make one that prevents you from fulfilling the role as hero, they're 'changed' as seen when you get the Godsbane.
The Dragon knows his role will never change and has become so apathetic he doesnt care anymore and is subtly guiding you to making true change. Similar vibes are felt with key characters that are outside the cycle like the Maesters, Dragon Forged and Mad King.
It could have been done *so* much better though.

The most recent patch has made my Pawns say various things I've never heard them say before and reduced the amount of times they say the same line. However, it seems like they accidentally increased how often Hired Pawns are in suggesting you follow them for a quest they have knowledge of. I am so glad you decided to make a video on this game, I've also got just over 100 hours in it and it was probably my most anticipated game of this year and I was... conflicted. The game is both really addicting because of the combat and pawns but horrible dated with all the awful NPC dialogue, lack of RPG elements, and just a ton of questionable design choices. The "world-building" if you can call it that is the worst in any RPG that I've played in 10+ years (coincidentally, roughly since I played DD:DA), not a single NPC is interesting, the story is laughably bad. So disappointing.

My guess is the Jack missed it because the prompt to go back is some off handed comment by Brant. If you miss then you just find him in his house in harve village.

Really disingenuous on a few points, my fighter pawn launched me up all the time. I shot an explosive arrow, switched to my sword and my warrior pawn launched me up to the explosive. They learn by fighting, you can’t just expect them to know everything off the bat.
My pawn was also hired, so I hired their pawns in return and met a few pawns that leveled up around the same speed as mine. I’d send them away with a gift and then summon them later to see if their Arisen was playing. Still have those pawns saved in my favourites.

I keep finding things I had no idea were possible. The main moment I had like this was ending the quest for the guy being poisoned by the nun in vernworth. It felt a bit abrupt but I thought fuck it I’m going to go kidnap the doctor using a ferrystone and bring him back to the church but it turned out you could convince him to go help after the quest had ended and there was absolutely no indication that was an option other than my own intuition.

To give the game some credit back you seem to have missed many interactions with PNCs, including quest lines and lore explanations.
You would have understood who the watcher is, how to reach the volcanic island, even the story behind the little tree in the ending credits. The exploration in this game isn't just running around finding chests, it's also going back to places you've already visited to talk to PNC you've already met before.
That being said, it's not a natural thing to do and I even finished the game a first time in 20 hours not knowing this. Took 80 hours for the second playthrough.

yeah I agree that Jack has missed some interactions in the game, but honestly I doubt that would've changed his view of the story.
I've played DD2 for over 160 hours and did virtually everything there was to be done in the game, and the story is still a mess, with some plots that make no sense and some storylines that seem clearly unfinished or rushed. The game is fun when looking at combat and exploration, but the story is TOTALLY not the reason to play it. It lacks the charisma of the first game. It's weird to see Itsuno speaking about the game with such high praise, when it's clear that the game shines for technical reasons (clearly not speaking about performance here), but not for narrative ones.
To add insult to injury, game progression is all over the place, with some oddly terrible choices such as locking certain classes until the late game

Enemy variety blows. It's ok at first, but there is nothing to buy/upgrade with 98% of your crafting materials.
First game had like 15 different plants, and tons of combinations of items. There always felt like something was yet to be discovered/combined. Not here after 15 hours. Same 5 plants, same 4 enemies (with different colors), no materials are made by crafting, so just collecting junk. I had so many materials that I never used once at the end. WTF is point of exploring if you don't use the materials.
Really really shallow compared to the first. Tons of QOL I like, but just as many taken away. Like the inventory issue in the video.

There’s a point to the main story being completely unrelated to the dragon. The dragon is pretty much like a force of nature that chooses you, and then you have to get strong enough that when he comes back you dont die. The main story of both games is basically a long training arc of your character preparing to fight the dragon. I do recommend playing the first game before the second, because of lot of lore makes more sense, and there’s a lot of hidden things that I picked up on that new players wouldn’t have. Also do every main quest before the move on part. Like Brant’s quests, do all of them before going on to the ceremony. They’re very easy most of the time and give more explanation for what’s going on.
Edit: The whole becoming king thing is a false ending. There’s another like 4th of the game to go through.

I've played both games, and this one has a downgrade on A LOT OF EVERYTHING. I'll just list it here.
-Can't sell from Storage(DD1 did this)
    - LESS ENEMY VARIETY
-DD1 had a coherent story to follow. Even the end boss post game was more story driven and the twist reveal was perfect back than.
-There's actually LESS pawn customization with personality in DD2.
-You could legit sit down with your pawn first game and tell them to shut up.
-I MISS THROWING OIL BOTTLES AT GOBLINS AND SETTING THEM ON FIRE RAH
-Also store vendors would unlock more end game items if you higher thier affinity or do quests.
-Mystic Woods in DD2 is a husk of what DD1 had. There was a legit witch in DD1.
-And There were actually Bandit fortresses.
    - I could go on but I'm actually sick of all these changes.

Played on PS5. Never had any issues. But I honestly can't tell if you got the "TRUE" ending to the game. There's a lot of details story wise that you missed. But you have to go to the Unmoored world to see the true ending of the game. Technically speaking, if you never go to the Unmoored world, you never actually play Dragon's Dogma 2. You just Played Dragon's Dogma. That's the reason why it's the "same game"
    SPOILER WARNING
The way the lore works is in Cycles. Every cycle there is a dragon and an arisen. The dragon finds the arisen, rips out their heart, the Arisen gets strong enough to fight and kill the dragon, everything is great, the arisen eventually becomes/transforms into a dragon, and then they repeat the cycle. Everything is always the same. The characters in the world are supposed to be there to play their role in making sure the dragon and arisen complete the cycle. In order to get to the Unmoored world which is hinted at in the main story if you talk to the crazy old guy on the beach before the sunken castle pops up. But the true ending to the game is what happens once you break the cycle of the Dragon and the Arisen. You both have to die.
The reason the game keeps making you replay that dragon fight is because you're supposed to climb down onto the dragon's heart/chest area, use the empowered godbane sword or whatever it's called on yourself while holding the dragon, and that's how you get the true ending. The dragon is giving you hints about killing yourself when you're flying to the last fight and that's why the ghost resets things if you talk to him. So that you can get the fake ending the first time experience fighting the dragon, then get the true ending the second time.

yeah, i am playing ddda right now, as i bought dd2 and "no lessons were learned" part summaries dd2 in it entirety, and thats really sad. dd2 is not worse or better than dd1, its the same, but the problem is dd1 is a diamond in a rough and absolutely no intellectual work was done on dd2. So now we have two poorly realised openworld arpgs with cool ideas and no story whatsoever.

Solid video and a lot of fair points made, I agree with a lot of what you are saying, especially anything regarding the lack of polish with the writing, character plotlines, and presentation. Also, I laughed out loud at the real steak being cooked at camp lol. I gotta say, I have no issue that the over-arcing story and ending can seem confusing and vague. It really does require talking to the right NPC's to get what the game is trying to say. Like many elements in the game, it doesn't hold your hand in understanding the story, but it's there if you look and listen. This game is a classic, just like the first. **spoilers below**
    @39:12
I missed it myself when I fought the dragon at the end. So when I was sent back to fight him again, to reaffirm my choice, I really listened to what the dragon was saying and he spells it out in a nuanced way. I was impressed when he bluntly called us a fool for not understanding what he was saying. I get this type of story telling isn't the strongest.. and can be frustrating when you just want them to spell it out at times. But in hindsight, I think the dragon's monologue + the pathfinder's dialogue in the throne room work really well. The first time you hear it, it just sounds like he is hyping you up before you both fight to the death, which is kick ass.. The second time, you realize he is explaining that by simply engaging in battle, any further discussion is pointless because our fate is doomed to perpetuate the cycle regardless of the outcome. So the third time I went back to reaffirm my choice, I noticed the deafening beating of our hearts when you climb up near his, and it should also be noted that his flight path is ridiculously out of the way if he was just going to take you to that final battle ground area, which is a clue that he is giving you time to make the decision you are supposed to make.. and truly prove your resolve by doing what needs to be done. Again, I know this isn't what some people want but, I think it's awesome. And besides, when From Soft tells stories half baked while forcing communities to piece together lore, people love it. So, I'd say DD2 story works if you seek it out. But if it's not for you, that's all good too lol.

it is possible for two people you have max affinity with to both show up at your house and start fighting over you, however it’s incredibly rare unless you are visiting your house every 30 minutes OR you force it to happen by raising the affinity of two people and bringing them to your house yourself. at least that’s what i had to do to get the achievement for it. you also can’t really do anything but watch it happen and there is no dialogue at all between the two people, just on sight violence so if you aren’t actively attempting to cause it you might not even understand what the hell just happened.
