    You might want to seek counseling regarding your slabbing habit. Sorry, I could only get through about 40% of this video. 9.8 or 9.6 -- who cares? For the most part, these are modern books with well over a thousand or more of high grade copies in existence. The value of the census on modern day books is somewhat limited -- who knows how many are out there that have not been graded? Makes no sense to slab stuff like this. What's more, I find non-graded books displayed in a toploader to be much better looking for display on a wall. The label and overly large case on graded books is distracting. The label and grade becomes the focus rather than the book itself.

    • @Swamp-Bat
      @Swamp-Bat 6 месяцев назад +3

      I think for a lot of slab collectors the label, grade, and overly large case are more important than the book itself.

    It’s pretty simple, after you buy the book you can do whatever you want with it. If you don’t like graded books, you can crack them open. No need to regurgitate what was said in other videos or comments. I’ve read that opinion many times. You’re not tossing the book into a black hole when it’s slabbed.

    I don’t understand this at all. What’s the use having comics slabbed when you can’t read them, if they’re not very valuable.

    CGC needs to answer for a lot in order to win back my trust...especially regarding their own internal security.
    I will wait before submitting. I originally planned to drop off a dozen high value, high grade books at this year’s Terrificon in CT. However, if I don’t get some assurances on measures that they’ve taken to improve security, I’ll submit to CBCS instead

    Those are all beautiful covers, and I totally agree with u on that Batman/RedHood layout and color scheme. Plus all those books aren’t gonna get u taken out on a stretcher financially. The book I’ve been eyeing for awhile is Batman 680 the Tony Daniel variant, I personally dig that joker rendition. Check it out

    No offense intended whatsoever, but if all you want to do is display the covers on your wall, why not print out cover scans from online and just hang those up? Same effect, and way cheaper.

    I feel like you got a leanient grade on a couple of these books. Only by one grade. Even the 9.8 on the Star Wars book looked like it had a bend on the cover, maybe it was the case had a scuff. Do you press or want to try pressing yourself? Its not too difficult of a process on modern even back to mid 80’s books. Theres only a couple things to consider. Just curious. Regardless, nice grades!

    Tell me. I guess I don’t get it. 100 is OVERSTREET-Scarce, so 250 must be two-and-one-half times OVERSTREET-Scarce. ... right? I think that IF .. the [CGC] CENSUS shows FOUR 9.8s, out of SEVEN ~graded, TOTAL, on a 55-year old book, then THOSE are TRULY rare.

  • @davidtorres4514
    @davidtorres4514 6 месяцев назад

    Why can't CGC post a picture of the cover when looking on the census? Especially with so many variants out these days it would make it so much easier to look on the census. Your thoughts?

    No less then 33% of all modern CGC books have been over graded these last 5 years.
    You may like your 9.8 & 9.6 CGC books, but unfortunately they are probably closer to 9.2-9.4 range.

  • @ddougherty8266
    @ddougherty8266 6 месяцев назад

    First off... Your books, your money, your books to display - so, go for it! But, what do you think about this (this is not about the CGC grading scandal - LOL!)... Given that there is a fixed amount of wall space in any collector's "den", are you near your limit of display space? I guess that you can "redecorate" from time to time.. But there's the problem with UV light fading the covers. I have a lot of slabs, but I'd never display my big-dog books. Anyway... I'm starting to see modern slabs (even 9.8's) being blown out for less than the case-cost (e.g., 4 for $100) because no one wants them for $40 or $50. I think that slabs (CGC and CBCS) have a lot of "problems"... They weigh one pound a piece, so shipping has to be by Priority Mail (which is $15+). They take up five times as much space as a raw book, so local comic shops can't keep many in stock (unless they have a large store). 200+ bagged and boarded books will fit in a long box, while 200 slabs require about 4 long boxes (which would weigh 200 pounds!). This is something that diminishes the in-person resale value and the one-pound weight harms the mail-order vale. All of which is why many dealers will pay only $5 for modern slabs. They're hard to store, transport (because of the weight, dealers need a panel van to transport even 1000 of them to a convention) and they're so expensive to ship that only those over $100 make financial sense to sell on line. A lot of slabs now sell for the same price as raw, or even less than raw for the lower grades - storage and postage is a killer.
