@@BrianE2507-x2i it’s not ideal for sure but it’s also a river carrying extra water at the moment so the affect is really exaggerated. Tomorrow will be a great days fishing, thanks a lot for watching and commenting 🎣🐟
An interesting video as usual Adam. Just for my clarification - when you refer to the 'free' section, is it the stretch running from below the sluice gate, through Westmead playing fields? How far does it extend? Thanks.
15 years ago this was a really nice bit of river..lots of waterbirds and wildlife in abundance 12 months a year.. Very good fishing with a nice head of bream , roach ,perch and big chub around the weir pool..some really big carp cruising around too... Then just down stream fantastic chub and barbel fishing with some nice pike showing up regularly too.. Past the bridge ..Still good chub, roach, big perch the odd barbel and some good pike all the way through the woods.. Now ..it's a silent shadow of its former self..no dabchicks, coots or moorhens..no mallards or even domestic released ducks ( there was even a pair of gadwall here in the early 2000s..) ..half the big willows have gone.and the fishing is extremely disappointing compared to what it once was..hordes of minnows being the only really abundant species present..alongside a few smallish chub...it's very, very sad
@@Martin-v3v9p there are still some fish of all the species you mentioned in this stretch it’s only carp I haven’t seen for myself over the last few years. The moorhen are doing ok on this stretch but that’s the only species of water I’m likely to see here. It certainly does need plenty of tree work being done but that’s can be said for the whole river. I’m not sure how the fish fry would survive the recent floods which would in turn see the wildlife disappear? Lots to ponder when you fish here🙏
Water release from dams is a daily problem here, although I would have thought that at Chippenham, the amount of water released and the the length of time it is released wouldn't be quite low. Enough to mess with the fishing though! Here, the fish seem to feed better as the water level/flow changes...better as it falls but still better as it rises than at constant flow. No idea why...extra food washed down maybe??
@@tonylocke3010 thank you that’s very similar but definitely on a much smaller scale. I find it fishes best at it’s highest and then dropping. Oddly a constant flow whether high or low seems the best at Chippenham. I intended to share the video so as anyone who wants to fish there should be prepared to leave a swim at the drop of a hat. 🎩 thanks again 🙏
@@catalickconverta6823 it might less severe at spawning season and it gets more extreme with extra water in the river like today. Thanks for commenting 🎣🐟
It breaks my heart to see the conditions..Really hope the fish can adapt..Nature always finds a way of bouncing back let's be positive ..❤❤

Surely it will erode the banks 10x faster coming up an down like that the fish dont stand a chance spawning
