Good morning, Steve, from Windermere Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 I only grew Principe Borghese Tomatoes 🍅 and the Everglades Tomatoes 🍅 aka, Current Tom's! Both were lovely and sweet 😋 I'll be trying some of your choices next year. I watched your entire video and gave a thumbs 👍 Well done, My Friend 👍🍅👍
Great to see a tomato on your flag. Love your reviews, we have had rain every day this week so need a bit more sunshine to get my toms ripened. Really appreciate opinions on the taste of different tomatoes, I think I will have to look for Heinz and brads atomic one foe next year. Have a good week
Hi Steve, I absolutely loved this, I’m defo going to grow brads, Heinz, red alert thanks so much Steve 😊. I agree with the Roma I won’t be growing again. Looking forward to the next 😊. Leanne 🌻🍅🍓🍇🌽🥕🌶🥕🥬🌸
Great minds taste alike LOL Waiting in the Oishi Pink and a few others for a micro part 2 taste test. I've topped off the OP at 6 trusses as it is at the top of the cane! Have a good 'un Leanne
I was all for packing in when the bioassay was not going well but they said to carry on because if there is a problem they want to sort it out with the compost maker! Cool 🙂 Have a great week San
Nice reaction to the Minibel tomato Steve. It looks like you had a good growing season so far despite the heat. A lot of friends here in the US have had a terrible season this year. Even old standbys have poor flavor 😣. Take care.
Thanks, guys 👍. It has been a challenging year worldwide it seems! I'm just popping out to pull up the Minibels before I stop for the day! Have a great time
Great taste test Steve, the only variety I grow that was amongst your lot was Heinz and maybe that's because it was from the Veg Grower Podcast? Anyhow I am tempted to grow Brad's Atomic Grape after seeing your reaction. My Heinz haven't ripened yet as they are outside but there are a few fruits on there, I look forward to trying them now. I'm terrible, I just grow the same varieties to use up the seed packets every year, I may ditch a couple and branch out next year 😂. Take care 😊
All of my toms are outside, Bethan, but against a south facing white wall so nice and cuddly warm for them LOL I want to try new ones each year but as I find "keepers" then that will be more and more difficult! Have a great week
Great video. I'm growing my beef/large tomatoes at the centre next year apart from the Raspberry Oxheart which I like to have access to for the weekends, I'll also be growing several plants of each variety as the yield is lower in quantity compared to smaller sized tomatoes 😁🌱☀️
I have around 20 different varieties at present that I need to wheedle down to 10 or so. One though is to not grow the big ones except the Raspberry Oxheart. I know I already like the others so maybe give new ones a chance to get on my list of preferred varieties. But, me being me - I know this will all change when I start sowing LOL 🍅🍅😂
Brilliant Steve as per normal on your Tomato taste testings, i managed to get hold of 5 Brads for next season and i have already got some Heinz 1350 so i'm ok for suggestions, oh and i agree what you say on different places saying different descriptions, same goes for the dates of sowing and harvesting does me head in. One question, where did you get that sharpener of yours because all the ones i have had over the years have been crap, from battery to electric to the any sharp, and i don't fancy buying those sharpening stones just for Tomatoes. Take Care and Stay Safe mate. Barry (the Wirral)
Great Barry. I'm sure you will like them. The Brad's Atomic id such a complex flavour - certainly full of umami! The knife sharpener is from a seller on Amazon - best I have ever found! There is a link to it in my Amazon Store in the video description but here it is again: amzn.to/3ON9jzJ Have a great week mate
Hi steve, brilliant video. I love hearing your opinion on them. Saves us having to grow them 😂. I might try the brads next year. I did marmande this year at the request of my 89yr old mum. She only likes beef toms. Any recommendations for a different one to try next year? Thanks for sharing
Thanks, Ann . I grew Gigantamo in 2020 and it came top equal for taste etc. As I recall though (like many big tomatoes) the wass a trade off between having a nice tomato and not having many of them. The plant can only grow so many.
Hi Steve, can i make a suggestion? A clip board for your piece of paper will make ot eadier for you tobwrite & record your results? Really good tomato comparison, i have ordered the heinz variety to try next season. Thanks for sharing and take care 🙂
Great idea! I threw one away about 2 years ago as I never used it LOL After the lovely taste of the Heinz 1350, I'm going to try a few more varieties of Heinz next year. Have a great week.
A day will come when I have my "go to" varieties but I will still try ones that are new to me. You never know, they could knock a few of my "go to" list LOL
I agree with you on the Crimson Crush. Grew it for the first time this year because everybody saying their growing it. Found it a nice looking tomato but bland. Won’t be growing it again but will try your top three next year.
I found Crimson Crush to be pretty crap to be honest and have dropped it for 2023. I am however trying the re-worked Crimson Rose Crush variant, which is supposed to be a better version of Crimson Crush.
Have you every tried Supersweet 100 or Sweet million? Surprised to the the Crimsons so far down. I do prefer outdoor grown to indoor for flavour. You need to raise the bar for next year and get a sweetness meter 😊👍🏻
I did Sweet Million a while back. Nice but there were so many toms all ripe at the same time I was inundated with them LOL Sounds daft to say I had too many!!! And really, Crimson Crush isn't a loser it scored 40 out of 50 and was 2nd in 2021! Sweetness meter - now that would stop a few "arguments" LOL Hope you are improving rapidly buddy - we need a video soon (totally selfish me!) 😂
Japanese or German Steel ? This is really helpful Steve, definitely saving this video for future reference. My Mini Bell guess was so close 🤣🤣🤣 Seems to me the main characteristics you're lookin for is taste and skin, no ? I was, "1 was too many and hundred wasn't enough" guy. 16 years or so far ;) Again excellent video, and congrats on 7 months, for whatever ever reason(s) you chose :) Cheers J&C 🌱🍎🌱
Sheffield Steel - British! Well done Jason. I just decided I was wasting money and once I thought about it, I *stopped* ! Minibel - I was so close to spitting it out and today I will be pulling up the plants! Hope you have a good week J&C! 🍎
I've grown pink Brandywine for the first time this year. Fantastic yields - lots weighing arounf 1lb and so many fruits plus they were incredibly early to ripen- weeks ahead of other beefsteaks. . it was like cutting into a watermelon, just big chunks of tomato flesh but defintitely needed a touch of salt. One drawback - just so juicy that they made a sandwich very soggy and no good for sauces - they just yield up far too much "tomato water". But I will grow them again just for the earliness of them.
They are very impressive! The growing/usage notes say they are very good for sautee, roasting and grilling so I guess that will dry them up a fair bit When I use a juicy tomato in a sandwich/roll/burger I put it between two lettuce leaves so the bread stays dry 🙂 Have a great week!
Loved this Steve. of course I was waiting for you to try the Brad's - I had exactly the same reaction when I tried it last year! I'll be interested to try the Heinz variety though (hint, hint ;) ) I haven't picked one single tomato yet so I'm looking forward to being able to compare and contrast my varieties. Oh - and I love that knife sharpener!
Cheers Jane! Most of the ones on the video were the first taste of the year so Brad's Atomic and Heinz 1350 were both 100% genuine reactions! I'm pretty sure the Welsh connection has spare seeds so I'll give him a shout for you. Yes, the knife sharpener is the best I've found. There is a link to it in my Amazon Shore in the description above, it under COOKING (wonder why LOL) Have a super week Jane PS What day are you doing Malvern Autumn?
Hi steve love the tom taste test the oxheart seems to be tipping no 1 this year for me but the brads have yet to ripen so its gonna be a hard decision for the top tom of 22 take care
That is strange. Was this with the 1350 variety? This is my first year with these Heinz 1350 but I know the Heinz 1370 is sold as a cooking tomato so it is juicy, and there are others that Heinz have bred specifically for dry countries so they have no blight resistance (and should not be sold in humid countries but - hey, anything goes on Amazon!) I've been using this to help prevent blight and it is working for me so far. Quite a few have lost potatoes on our allotments. amzn.to/3OPg7N6
so far, for me, tigerella is the go to tomato for butties. i'm still on the lookout for the perfect tomato for frying. i might go back to moneymaker now i have more time for feeding etc.................brian
What's the odds the Brads atomic & thr Heinz I sent you were beauties 💪😂 I got 1000s of those seeds. ( I think I sent you a pile ) but let me know. Danny
I should have docked a few points on those for their dubious heritage 😂🙂 The Big Mama was yours too (3rd) and still waiting on the Purple Cherokee - so you may have the top 4!! (rushes off to make plans to stop that!) Have a great week buddy

Very interesting, Digwell! The only one I’ve grown out of that selection is Brads Atomic Grape. I concur. I liked it and will grow again.
