There's a clip somewhere of the Royal Marines singing I Vow To Thee My Country 🇬🇧 its beautiful I loved it 🇬🇧 I'm a proud Brit mother my youngest son is in our Royal Navy serving on HMS Prince of Wales ⚓🇬🇧⚓ The Marines singing this are up on a misty mountain somewhere 🇬🇧
I was at the matinee performance of this concert, it was amazing. I'm ex RAF but it doesn't pain me to say the the bands of HM Royal Marines are the finest musicians in the world, not just of military bands! It takes 3 years to qualify and each musician has to be able to play three instruments. Great reaction again Joel. Check out their drum n bugle Corps, very entertaining!!!
It should be remembered that these musicians are also active duty Royal Marines. They get deployed to combat zones, very often in logostic and medic roles, and some also in patrol roles. I was in school from age 6 to 16 with a friend who always intended to be a Royal Marine band member. By the time he was old enough to join he was proficient in bugle, trumpet, drum and oboe, qualifying him to enter RM band school. Before that, though, he also had to pass basic RM military training. I didn't see my friend again for five years after he left for RM training. By then, besides training and playing with the band, he had served thtee tours in Northern Ireland. Notice that the lady singer (Sam) is wearing several medals. The UK military does not give out participation trophies so it's safe to assume that she was not awarded them for just being there.
The original singers Simon & Garfunkel said that the best version they ever heard of this was by a band called disturbed you should check it out it’s amazing
I hope you have also heard one of the live versions sung by the original singers, Simon and Garfunkel. For me, nothing tops the original. The concert in Central Park version and the Concert at Madison Square Garden version are both on RUclips.
Watch Pentatonix A cappella version and then Disturbed’s version totally different but Disturbed is amazing. Also check out Pentatonix performing Bohemian Rhapsody. You won’t believe there are no instruments.
Your a lovely young man I have a son who is also at college 😊 I love your channel and love this song, very moving. I'm so glad your interested in our culture. Bless you 😍🇬🇧
Glad you found the royal marines bands, they are the best. I would love to go to one of their concerts, but I'm disabled now, so wouldn't be able to get there. Will just have to watch online and enjoy from my armchair.
Beautiful voices and splendid orchestration but what I found particularly attractive was the fact that neither singer indulged in the tortured facial contortions so beloved of commercial pop stars.
This is really beautiful but with a full orchestra and two incredible voices it reminds me that Art Garfunkel's solo performance is supremely unbeatable.
Yes that was the sound of silence when it went dark I just love the way you take time out to appreciate this kind of thing especially when it’s British we all thank you for that Joel you are a really special person and I know your parents are really proud of you because we definitely are love 💕 from Denise in Yorkshire England 🏴👏👏👏👏👏👍🥰👋
Yes,and also see them singing Brothers In Arms and the the whole band playing the theme from Gladiator, the female Marine in that has the voice of an angel absolutely stunning,
Out of strength comes sweetness I agree only Simon & Garfukel can only ever own that song but some other artists can get the S&G seal of approval (in my eyes)
A heart touching moment of a song Joel & you are a wonderful young bloke to react to our British culture & other things. I enjoyed your Cadbury tasting video from yesterday also. Sending love from Somerset, England, UK 🇬🇧.
The sound of silence was written by Paul Simon over several months in 1963 and was on the debut album of Simon and Garfunkel in 1964. Garfunkel said that the lyrics to the song stand for, peoples inability to communicate with one another. This song is as relevant today as it was 58 years ago. Now fyi, I’m old, but not that old. lol I’ve heard all of their songs growing up, because my sister was a huge Paul Simon fan. She had all his albums.
Just a suggestion as i have noticed you really enjoy british millitary music please react to the pipes and drums at the Queen mothers funeral, they really do hit the emotions and even the horses are in sync with each other.
I am lucky enough to have grown up (and live near) near Lympstone (near Exmouth at the end of the Jurassic Coast) this is where all the Marines complete their basic training. The band frequently treats us to mini concerts in a car park by the sea front. These are always well attended and much appreciated
So glad you have reacted to this stunning rendition of a most beautiful song. Another one was I vow thee to my country. The marines also did a cover of Neil Diamonds Sweet Caroline. This was recorded at same venue as the Proms. Royal Albert Hall. Love you’re reaction as always. Your emotions reallshone through.
Hi Joel, just came across this, my home town is Portsmouth UK and is one of the places that the RM band are based. As a an ex brass player I have been fortunate to have many players as friends. On that note I know you like our history, so take a look at the Royal Navy Field Gun teams. Sadly it doesn't exist now, I think the last run being in about 1999, though I could be wrong. I lived 5 mins from where the RM bands and Field Gun happened. The atmosphere at gun runs was incredible, check it out it was highly competitive, I am sure there will be some RUclips videos.
I believe the meme you mentioned from the first couple of lines of the song, come from the Disturbed's version of the Simon & Garfunkel(?!?!); also who is, to my knowledge, the only cover to get a seal of approval and respect from Paul Simon - publicly! A lot of artists and groups attempt to cover Disturbed version and arrangement of the song now, but please, go check out Disturbed - Sound of Silence (Official Audio Video) and perhaps compare some of the other versions available including the original!?!?!
Thanx for showing the clip. Lovely singer and pitch perfect. Just off the record, I like watching your clips because they are relaxing and make me laugh and feel good in a horrible world of violence and nastiness. Also you never swear or use profanities. Thank u for making me happy watching you and your clips.
I love this song it's so emotional and they sang it well. Best cover I've heard is sang by a band called disturbed the lead guy sings it alone and does it well
The Royal Marines Bands are one of the best military band in my opinion. I recommend checking out more marches/performances by the various different Royal Marines Bands.
I was there! Lord Mountbatten concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London! It’s a yearly concert by the Massed bands of the Royal Marines! Never fails to disappoint!
Well done correctly identifying 'HM' as 'Her Majesty's' - it's a familiar identifier here, although you don't always welcome a communication from Her Majesty - it could be a court summons 😃. Crowns & kingdoms & majesty mean the Queen technically prosecutes us as well as rewards us & represents us the community of the realm.
These are our young men and women who are part of our armed forces the ribbons and medals that they wear you only get for service in conflict e.g. Iraq Afganistan to mention but a few so proud of all
You have already commented on I Vow To Thee My Country but could I suggest that you react to Ramin Karimloo- I Vow To Thee My Country- Festival Of Remembrance 2020.In 2020 The Festival Of Remembrance at The Albert Hall was held without an audience and with all the participants socially distanced due to Covid but was televised as usual . I’m not sure why I find this version so moving ,but I think that it’s due to the situation we were all in at the time as well as the astounding voice and performance of Ramin Karimloo. S
To qualify for entry into the RM band, one has to be proficient in at least two instruments, and is expected to be able to write a musical score by the end of two-three years. These guys - male and female alike, are no corner street kids with a token musical ability, they are at the top of their tree in all genres. If you liked this, watch this for comedy and pure professionlism from these guys: The Mountbatten Festival of Music 2020 | The Bands of HM Royal Marines.
If you liked that version of the song, then check out The Gregorian Monks version of The Sound of Silence. They have covered some popular songs from the 1980’ and 90’s as well like, My Heart Will Go On (Titanic movie) Imagine by John Lennon. Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Simon & Garfunkel Chasing Cars, by Snow Patrol Sweet Child of Mine, Guns & Rose Clocks, by Cold Play. To name but a few. It’s weird hearing Monks singing pop music, and quite refreshing at the same time.
Man Americans just love this kinda stuff, just so you know Joel your one of a very small number who would even bother to watch this. And I’m pretty sure no one in the Uk that’s your age finds this stuff remotely interesting or cool…it’s laughed at for being pompous and old fashioned
Hey Joel! If anyone suggests or recommend Disturbed on the conan show - PLEASE ignore and go straight to the Original Disturbed Official Audio Video first before checking out any other version!!! You won't regret it!!!!
You're such a sweetheart. Don't feel like you need to hold back your emotions. I'm the same as you when I hear beautiful music. :) Try Leona Lewis's version of Summertime that she did in UK X Factor 2006. Stunning.
I was looking at your face during this performance Joel and you seemed to be getting really into it, you have to check out the version by Disturbed, it's amazing Lyd x
You should give a listen to the version of this song by Super Vocal from China. For me, it's the only version of this song that I can listen to over and over and over again!
That was amazing......the guy sings The Greatest Showman too............Jps, if you like duets you must see Calum Scott and Leona Lewis singing ~"You are the reason,,~"......it's beautiful.
Hi Jps, I don't know if you have reacted to James Blunt and Monsters. If not do so. His words are so deep and meaningful and personal. It takes a lot of maturity to understand his words are more than its just words and music. At your age you should not be in that part of your life with your elders and family. If you have any unresolved issues with any family, or friends, resolve them as you never know when death or separation will come knocking and its too late then. I speak from experience. Cheers DougT in UK (Manchester)
I know your listening to the Royal Marines more than the song, but if you like the song give Simon and Garfunkel's The Boxer a listen, one of their best, in my opinion
Please follow the royal Gibraltar regiment..they are trained by the Royal Marines, Gibraltar being a British territory the rock guarding the straits of Gibraltar.. the regiment has the insignia on their helmets of the Royal Marines as they fought the mighty siege for gib..very proud of having been born in Gibraltar..good viewing..also view world war 2 tunnels in Gibraltar I am sure you will find it interesting👍❤️🙏

You’re a lovely young lad, Joel, and mature beyond your years. I love your reactions to us Brits. Keep at it.

It’s beautiful to hear a man use the word beautiful to describe another man’s voice.
Thank you for another lovely video What a lovely young man you are Keep going all the best from England 🏴
It should be remembered that these musicians are also active duty Royal Marines. They get deployed to combat zones, very often in logostic and medic roles, and some also in patrol roles. Astounding...such powerful words and to think Paul Simon was just 21 when he wrote them....lovely reaction too x
Absolutely beautiful, the singing is breathtaking.
One of my favourite tunes by Simon and Garfunkel.
But this version gave me goosebumps
Mine too. I often play my Simon and Garfunkel CD…..I was there at their beginning!…..tho I’ve got Alexa to command now!
The original singers Simon & Garfunkel said that the best version they ever heard of this was by a band called disturbed you should check it out it’s amazing
Just watched the official video of Disturbed singing it and I agree.
I hope you have also heard one of the live versions sung by the original singers, Simon and Garfunkel. For me, nothing tops the original. The concert in Central Park version and the Concert at Madison Square Garden version are both on RUclips.
Disturbed sing this song beautifully.

JPS certainly admires the classier things in life.
It's even more impressive trying to get a harp and a piano on a landing craft.
I think this was at The Albert Hall.
Beautiful so emotional, thanks to these two lovely young people with amazing voices.
Beautiful voices and splendid orchestration but what I found particularly attractive was the fact that neither singer indulged in the tortured facial contortions so beloved of commercial pop stars.
Beautiful song, beautifully sung, beautiful reaction as always xx
This is really beautiful but with a full orchestra and two incredible voices it reminds me that Art Garfunkel's solo performance is supremely unbeatable.
An old Simon & Garfunkel hit, great song from the early 60's. Was used in the film The Graduate with Dustin Hoffman.
I live watching your appreciation of everything instead of taking it all for granted!…beautiful human! 😇

I agree with the last comment. The Disturbed cover is probably one of the greatest ever done. Beautiful and powerful.
I saw the Band of the Royal Marines Christmas concert last year; they always put on an epic show
Absolutely beautiful performance. I'd not heard or seen it before . Thankyou for sharing xx

Yeh, this one is good
ruclips.net/video/hF7cyerSohU/видео.html shows the approach of the pipes in all their solemnity very moving
Get goose bumps everytime I hear this.

Also the Pentatonix cover. Equally beautiful, equally amazing, very different.

This was the Mountbatten Festival of Music, it's held every year at The Royal Albert Hall for 3 nights
First recorded in 1964 by Simon and Garfunkel, before those marines were born.
The sound of silence by Disturbe is amazing, and the video
Your a nice young man, hope you make it to the uk sometime soon, don’t forget Scotland too.
It’s been wonderful watching you grow as a person 👏👏🥰🥰

A beautiful version of this song. But doesn’t quite beat Disturbs version.
In reference to other popular English food.Toad in the Hole.Sausages in A giant Yorkshire Pudding with HP sauce. And cheese and onion pie ..divine.
Paul Simon wrote this. He went through some rough times in the 60s, and wrote some dark lyrics. But, they became some iconic songs.
Thanks for that dude. Enjoyed it a lot
Wow, that was stunning. My new favourite version of this awesome song.
That’s originally Simon and Garfunkel song it a beautiful song very apt for the times we’ve been living in.
Check out the royal tournament.
PLEASE take a look at Disturbed's version of the Sound of Silence. It's a powerful video.
.. amazing. That Marine (male) looks just like actor Richard Madden
the male singer sang at the remrance service in november he was so good
Beautiful.Thanks Joel.
