Thanks for the video, Robert! Picking my Model 3 up next week so I've been watching videos like crazy and came across your channel. Keep it up!
I appreciate it, thank you! Enjoy your new car!!!
Thank you Robert. That was a straight to the point video and I got my Tesla up and running in no time after watching. Best of luck.
WOW WOW WOW! I truuuuuly appreciate you and this video! After hours of trouble shooting, Googling AND EVEN speaking directly with Tesla, I was super frustrated and exhausted - and thought something may be wrong with my vehicle!
THEN YOU CAME ALONG! It’s the last step for me (creating that folder with the specific name - that was the key and one I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere else!) Thanks tremendously!
Rob this is super - so simple and clear to follow, thank-you for taking the time (and delighted you started with the Mac version ;o) !)
Thank you so much! I was able to set up my dashcam quickly. I’ve watched several videos but yours was the most helpful!
I’m glad! Thank you! Enjoy!
Just got my Model Y yesterday and this video was a life saver. The format option in the Tesla renames the drive correctly, it doesn’t put the needed TeslaCam folder in there and I wouldn’t know about that folder if it wasn’t for your video. Thank you!
Thank you so much Rob! Just purchased a model 3 2019. These links and the video have been extremely helpful.
Thank you very much. I looked at numerous videos on how to set this up, and yours did the trick. You put this video together so someone, like me who is not proficient on technology, could set up the drive properly. Thank you very much
Thanks John! Happy to help!
Thanks for this video. Got my Model 3 a week ago and now it's clear what to do for sentry mode set up.
Enjoy!
Thanks for making the process easy. You said it would take 5 minutes and I don’t think it even took that long.
I have watched several other videos, they are bits and pieces. Your video is awesome. Thanks man.
Thank you!
Followed this step by step on a Mac and it worked perfectly! Thank you!
Great video and helped me setup very quickly!
Hi Robert - THANK YOU for making this so easy and including step by step instructions!
Thank you Richard!
Thank you so much for this Robert. Seriously!
Worked! I have a 2021 model and the USB is in the glovebox. Thank you very much!
Great video and instructions, just got mine set up as you described. Thanks, Ian B
It was very useful! Thank you for had taking the time for this!
Thank you José!
Nice, clear explanation. Exactly the way to explain things. :)
really helpful and easy to follow - thanks!
Easy to follow step by step. Good job.
On my new Tesla M3 I'm using the iExpand Sandisk 64GB and had to format it using NTFS with the TeslaCam file. Works perfectly.
Thank you so much! I've been putting this off 'cause I didn't know how to set this up with my Mac.
Same ! :)
Thank you for the easy instructions.
Thanks for the video...VERY INFORMATIVE.
good quick video on TeslaCam, great job
Thanks Sy!
That was really useful thank you
Very concise and informative. Well done!
Thanks Erik!
Great video! Three questions...
1) Is it recording all the time or only when you click the camera icon?
2) If it's all the time, does it keep re-writing over the old footage?
3) If it's only when you click the camera icon, how far back does it record?
Thanks!
Thanks for your video! Direct and easy to follow. I have problem selecting the system when formatting my drive--SanDisk Ultra Flair USB 3.0 Flash Drive. I have Windows Edge. The only 2 formats are NTFS and exFAT. I tried both and my Tesla didn't respond to neither. HELP!
Really helpful. Thnx
Thanks for the video! Worked on my Tesla model X. So when you click that record button, does it start recording from when you pressed it? Or does it record the moments before you pressed it - and how long is the recording?
Thank you
Thanks so much!!!
Thanks this save me
Great Video! Have a good evening!!
Thank you!
Thank you, Robert..
thanks love you 💪🏽
Would you recommend the usb drive/key or the card?
Also is 32 g big enough?
Sorry for my English, but I'm French 😊
Hi, Thanks for your info. How about Sentry Mode is close. What should I do?
Thank for this, even tesla couldn't help me so this.
Thanks for the video. Do I get a notification for a new recording ?
How to view recordings ?
How to backup up a recording to a pc or Mac ?
Thank You
Just hit the subscribe button! Good vid! Does the sentry record for a long period of time when the vehicle is parked. And how can you review if anyone is near your car when you can’t save the clips while you’re away from your car? Thank you
Thanks for the video
Wat i,have to do when is full ?
Thanks for the vid. I have a question that relates to something you mentioned in passing at the end. You mentioned having the Nomad Charger and that you have a splitter. I'm assuming you have that set up so that both Nomad USBs come out of the same Port with a splitter. Is that correct? I would assume you want full USB contact for the drive. If that is the case, does the Nomad still quick charge and what splitter are you using? Thanks
Thank you so much
Glad it helped!
Does this save for every cam like if u get rear ended or t-boned will those cameras record and save as u click that button?
Hi thanks for your perfect explanation. It does unfortunately not work on my model X 2017. Does it only work on the newer models with MCU2? Best regards Ernst
Can you use an hardware encrypted drive to protect your data??
When removing the drive from car, do you need aldo to click on Eject somewhere in a menu? or can you just take it out? Also, is there a option to format the drive in the car itself?
Great video! If I don't save a recording on a drive, what happens to the footage. Isn't it recording while it is on red?Just wondering. Thanks again! :=)
Great video. I tried this on two different USB drives but neither are recognized in my 2017 MS90D. When I plug then into my USB port, I never get the dashcam icon. I tried both of my "front" USB ports (the ones located just above my 12V socket). Any thoughts on why? Does this not work on my model Tesla?
how often do u need to reformat the flash drive to make sure its not full?
Are any of the USB drives compatible with the app 'Tesla Cam'?
Thanks!
at first, there was a video that had the same thing but missed some stuff, but this one had everthing!
How do you set up with the new USB port
It doesn't work when you plug it in the splitter from the wirelesscharger. You have to plug it in the original usb portal.
You are really good
Thanks!
Hope you can help. I only see exFAT (default) instead of 32FAT.
Tesla recommend to use the USB of the glovebox to save battery (probably it has low power mode support) and since it's not accessible for people ...
Any info for setting up on Linux machines?
What happens when the disk gets full? Will it just delete the old videos?
how do you connect your phone to it?
I have a 64gb PNY flash and for the format option i only have NTFS and eFAT I'm on windows
How to set up for iPad pro
Windows 10 would only let me format the drive in ExFAT or NTFS. Neither are compatible with Tesla. You must format in NTFS and then download a free converter app to get the the FAT32 format.
Do you always need to manually tap to save every event or will Tesla save the video once you're parked?
No, it will save automatically
Hi, wondering if the size of 512GB is too big? I have bought a "Samsung Pro Plus" usb flash with 512gb micro sd card. The car couldn't format it by itself. Does it help to try by your solution? Cheers
So the new T7 Samsung’s default in Windows is exFAT. Will that work. It won’t format FAT32
My 128gb only have exFAT (file system "Default") and not FAT32. Does it matter wich I use?
Will the formatting process be the same for a SD card with an adapter?
Yes
Hi rob! quick question about sentry mode. Do you have to save your home & work address etc in order to exclude/include them when setting up the sentry mode?
Yes, you will have to do that.
@@RobertRosenfeld1 OK Thanks. BTW I saw in another video it was recommended that the Samsung Pro Endurance MicroSd card is a good option to record both dash cam& sentry mode. Does the SD card have to be formatted as well?
Hi when I install my sandisk endurance 64 k flask drive the camera appears on the dash , but when I try to activate the camera will not give me the red dot as you have on your show.
Do you have Sentry Mode enabled?
How do you check the footage. Humbug,
I plugged mine in and formatted it and it wouldn’t work. I read through the comments and found it needs the folder called TeslaCam. Added the folder on my computer and plugged it back and it started working. Thanks!
I tried formatting mine on Windows but my Default is exFAT and no option for FAT32. Is there another way to fix this?
My flash drive is 64GB, how do you format at this size?
Are you on windows or Mac?
So tesla dash cam and sentry mode work with just one USB that formatted and has a folder called TeslaCam? Or do I need one usb for tesla sentry mode and one for tesla dash cam?
Just one!
So I went out and bought your suggested setup. BUT, after awhile it stopped working. I brought it in and hooked it up to my iMac. It was filled up so I erased everything on it and put it back in the car and it’s good to go! Isn’t it supposed to be a loop, dropping off what was already recorded? Oh well! Working now!
You’re doing it all right! That seems to be the biggest flaw right now, the DashCam will write over itself but the sentry events will not. Eventually it fills up and you’’ have to unplug and manually erase and reset.
Hey man, so i’m using your Tesla referral code. Just wanted to drop by and say that because of how useful your videos were to me in the process of wanting to get my Model 3! Thank you so much man! Keep up with the good work on the videos !
Thank you Adnan, that’s very kind of you. Thank you!
Next to it is a black dot, if I press it it turns red. What is this?
Is there a difference with using mac vs P.C? Do you recommend one over the other?
Nope, no difference! I’d do whatever is easiest for you!
@@RobertRosenfeld1 okay!! Thank you, i've just had a lot of issues and went through like 3 usb's so far.
is sentry mode always recording? Let say someone quietly key my tesla door, and i didn't get a notification on sentry mode. will this be recorded ?
Yes, as long as sentry mode is on, as soon as it detects motion it will record. No one getting anywhere near your car would be able to not set off the sentry mode recording.
Do you have to format a new ssd? You missed going over that.
Any drive, new or old, has to be reformatted for the car. Follow along with the steps in the video and you should be set 👍🏻
Does the one drive handle both Sentry and Dashcam
Yes
That's cheap that the storage drive is an extra. I bought a Chevrolet Volt in 2013 that has a built in 256gig drive that records front and rear external video in 1080p.
What if your dash cam icon doesn’t come on? Only Sentry seem to work...do I need to format it..i have a Samsung T5 but my Sandi’s didn’t need to format and dash am icon comes on with my Sandi’s
Yes it need to be formatted a special way. You need to create the special folder as well. I have all of the steps in the video.
How do you format a drive in windows if its larger than 32 gb?
I’ve got a link in the description that should help.
Does the car automatically record prior to connecting USB
No, it has no where to record to
My USB drive does not show FAT32. What can I do?
Hi, what's the best SSD fro buy please?
I recommend the Samsung T5. I’ve got it linked in the video description
I know this video is 3 years old, so things might have changed. When I bought a new SSD I just plugged it in and formatted it from the car. Isn’t it doing the same? Any advantages or disadvantages doing it via the car? TIA
You did the right thing! Back then, you could not format it in the car.
Thanks Robert for the quick reply.
Do i have to create the TeslaCam folder or will it not work without it? Also is there a size limit if using a microSD
The new software makes it much easier. Just plug it in, go into Saftey and Security in the menu on the car, and format the drive. Not sure what the size limit is these days, shouldn’t be an issue
@@RobertRosenfeld1 thanks for the tip!
once you press eject, can you just unplug the USB stick
yes
Hello, if i alrready saved videos on my usb, if i reformat and creat new folder for the cam, does it erase the old videos? im using windown 10 btw.
Yes it will erase
@@RobertRosenfeld1 aww ok thank you!
Robert I don’t see link to the hard drive to buy
Found the description
I got sentry mode to work but not dashcam.
hi Robert. is a 32GB card more than enough?
32GB should be enough for a few days, you should be good!
Do you know of any that are Wi-Fi so you can erase from your phone?
