I know this is late af but its not that reiner wants people to feel bad for him. You guys mentioned how reiner is trying to make them feel bad for him even though he killed tons of people. He isnt acting or anything he has a mental illness due to this whole situation. He has shown in his warrior state he is aware of all the destruction they have caused. He can't help that he seems innocent in his soldier state because he truly doesn't remember all the destruction.
