    I LOVE the variety that French locks have. This might not be difficult, but it’s a great lock and a fun pick 😃👍🔐

    All French cylinders have tubular platform.
    Hi price and not hard to pick and open 360⁰ .
    Excellent pick!
    Thx.

    Looks like a fun lock. I think tallan pick has two of those but I don't know if they were different models or the same. Great tensioner, worked like a charm.

    What's the odds on that probe being an old Petersons Gem?!? 😀 Great video as always, interesting lock.

      @@LockNoob Out of interest, how many Gems have you gone through now? I have a Petersons #1 which is now looking more like a Scimitar! I am waiting for it to break to make a probe 😀

    It looked like one of those 'levers'/sliders had a false gate because when you picked past it you got counter rotation. Neat lock. I wonder why they didn't think of putting a centre post in. That would have made tensioning more difficult.

      Maybe, or it was mastered. As for the design, I’m not sure, but there are a few French manufacturers that do this type of pump lock

    I found picking mine that one direction it act quite tapered but if you pick the other direction there is no taper effect at all. so one direction is much easier than the other. not sure why that would be but they are cool locks i love everything french

    Awesome job as usual. That is a cool lock the states are boring when it comes to verity of designs. Think I'll be investing if some European designs for a bit

    Just a fancier Chicago lock with less pins

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  2 года назад

      You could say that any lock type is just another lock type with less x or y though

    interestingly enough, you appear to have picked it 360 degrees, but it seems that the brass cog wasn't actuated like when you tested out the key. is there a different mechanism within the lock that must be rotated to actuate the cog?

    • @SystemX1983
      @SystemX1983 2 года назад +6

      Probably the longest protrusion of the key would engage with the cog, similar to several euro cylinders where the tip of the key pushes on a "clutch" inside the actuator.

  • @roysammons2445

    Temptation far toooooo great not to give it a 360 ; )
    I wonder how much the key had to be turned to operate the thing it was attached too?
    Reasonable deterrent me thinks if it has to be picked several times.
    A little unusual but fun : )

    It looks like a Bramah, because a long time ago Fontaine produced Bramah clones. Here is a video of one of these locks: ruclips.net/video/jr36NRYZmes/видео.html . Later they made several evolutions to end up with the version you have. Fontaine Paris is the oldest French lock manufacturer (founded in 1740) and today produce mainly high end (luxurious) door hardware.

      One of the oldest lockmakers, period, and perhaps the oldest still owned by the original family. The next oldest I know of is Bramah which was established in 1784.
