"like" button clicked, obviously, but Johann deserves a "love" button! The dude is as talented as he is chill! For those of you who understand French, listen to his interview with Fuzz and Furious from a couple years ago, it's also pure gold and will make you feel at peace with he world.
I saw Gojira for the first time in 2017 and Johann was mixing them on a Pro2(c?) and the sound absolutely blew me away. I’ve seen plenty of good bands with bad FOH and not so many great bands with great FOH. Gojira & Johann are the latter. Since then I’ve seen them 6+ times and it’s always incredible. Thanks for another really solid interview & thanks, Johann!
This was awesome! Didn't expect you to be surprised by a full-on sample kick in a metal context. I rarely ever see microphones on kicks at metal shows.
he’s the one of the best out there!! So so supportive of other engineers and always brings intelligent conversations! Truly inspiring dude! Bring him a corona at FOH - but not too early in the set tho, let him find that balance first 😘😉 ❤❤❤
Love to see the studio guys come into live because they get my struggle of non studio live engineers being completely confused of my process/workflow/etc. “too much EQ! Too much compression!” If it sounds good, it’s good.
19:38 why the hate on midi drums? He's absolutely right that it's come a long way and tbh there's DEFINITELY cases where you can't tell the difference.
I don't know if you got the presets with the S6L but with the DAW version of Soothe 2, you have a preset called "Nolly Guitars" or something and that preset looks pretty close of what we see in his screen here
Best part of this gig is watching the boys tear it up. Studio and stage are getting very close as of last 10 years. I've noticed a shift of guys doing both. Years ago it was studio snobs and road dogs. Awesome video!!
Caught Gojira with Korn and Spiritbox in Charlotte. No disrespect, but Gojira sounded massively better than Korn. Even my daughter noticed and asked why. I told her every FOH person is different.
I was also at that show, and I agree. That was the first time I've seen Gojira live, and I was really impressed by how clear their sound was. I usually struggle to understand the vocalists at shows, but I could understand every word Joe sang/screamed.
After watching this video, the kick bass drum was way too loud at the woodlands Houston TX(Korn,Spiritbox, gojira show)...however, gojira has taken the show not once, but twice for me... I've seen gojira open up for Deftones and korn and both times to me, they had a better show than both the headliners, and I absolutely loved both of those headliners 🤷
I am still wondering about that aswell. Considering how complex it is to set up bands and mic up, for example the whole drumkit on that porch, I'd really not be surprised, if most of it would be prerecorded. Im not saying Gojira can't play their songs tho, I'm rather wondering how much of the performance was neccessary to be on playback, to even be allowed to play on a huge event like that.
@@kettnsaeg from my prospective, and watching the footage! The drums and vox all looked to be in sync with probably sum tracks? But it does look like they really did it live.and congrats to the whole team for that amazing performance!! 🤘😎🤘

Johann is the Man ! So much valuable information in that interview. So glad I got him in our podcast back in 2019 ! Thanks Nick !

Mr. DeLaCruz back with another epic video intro 🔥
Thank you!!
Shout out to my editor!
Literally the best out there!
A great watch.
Cool beans !!!! Johann Is an amazing Dude! Killer Engineer and mixer !! Just a stellar bro !!!!
Amazing how simple is his show and understanding. Dont need 1000 faders all runing together to make it sound good
This guy is awsome. Heard his work with Gojira a few times. And then he is so nice

How did he managed to open soothe live? Waves has their system, i know, but soothe? :O
He’s a monster in the FOH game. Heard him pull a phenomenal Gojira mix on an avid Profile on KUDO indoors with a glass balcony in Brisbane.

They can be awesome, if done right!
Isn’t ObZen by meshuggah on midi drums?
Great video. What a nice, talented guy. May we have a preset from the soothe settings?:) @13:05
You can basically see them if you pause when they zoom in

such a cool guy, i'd really love to learn from him

Hands down, Gojira's live show was the best sounding show I have ever been to.

NO WONDER THEIR KICKS ARE SO TIGHT!!! 😮
Like the intro.which song it is?

fooken legend
I think Kruger is the Swiss band that Johann talked about.
Should have asked how it was mixing the Olympics and the experience etc..

I think it was completely backtracked minus vocals which is normal for TV
@@danielmartin9014 It was pre-recorded. I know. That's fine, you're not allowed to not pre-record it.
it was recorded live though.
He posted on insta that he wasn't at the olympics for the performance but he did work on the song in the studio
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
