  • Artist Favianna Rodriguez was the first to have an installation at Presidio Tunnel Tops after it opened in July 2022. Her piece, "Ancestral Futurism: Looking Back to Repair the Future" featured outdoor temporary installations honoring the diversity and interconnectedness of all humans, flora, and fauna that have lived on the land throughout the centuries. The work uplifted the stories, experiences, and images of BIPOC communities with an emphasis on the Ohlone Ramaytush, the original stewards of the land.
Favianna was one of 13 members of the inaugural Presidio Activator Council: Bay Area community leaders, activists, and artists representing communities historically underrepresented in national parks. They developed innovative ways to incorporate art, culture, food, healing, wellness, and music into Presidio Tunnel Tops’ opening season to make it feel like a welcoming and inclusive space. The council was formed by the Partnership for the Presidio: The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, Presidio Trust, and National Park Service.
This video captures the importance of the Presidio Activator Council and community-building at Presidio Tunnel Tops. If you've visited the Presidio, joined the Parks Conservancy as a member, or enjoyed other parks across the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, you are supporting this incredible work. Thank you!
