Not immediately trying to chop, saw or mush her husband’s handcuffed hand had me all but shouting at the TV…. I figured the porcelain lid on the tank of the nearest toilet would make quick work of it.

For a start, when I found that phone, I'd have pulled it out of the water and LEFT IT OFF. I'd be planning on leaving it overnight before I attempted to boot it up, in case attempting to turn it on earlier broke it. Also breaking the ex's hand to get the cuff off, and when the friend showed up telling them the instant I saw them that I need his phone and to shut up and give me his phone there is a literal emergency and my phone is broken and just steamrolled him until I had his phone and had called and reported my location before I reported the self-end. Then the others show up and it's just a matter of how long until I get my hands on something I can use as a weapon.

Step 1 - get free - use the most ancient smashing tool known to mankind... my foot! Smash the hand until it is malleable enough to get the stinking handcuff off. This takes more energy at first, but as soon as that body is free, it starts saving WAY more energy than dragging it around would waste.
Step 2 - mental assessment - this is an unusual situation, caused by a controlling, toxic, person. And it's smelling like an "escape room" situation, so being able to understand the mentality of that person would help with how to tackle the situation as a whole.
Step 3 - physical assessment - (this can happen DURING Step 2, so don't go thinking they're mutually exclusive) I'm in an isolated cabin, in the freezing cold, with who knows what to keep me alive? Find out what I've got to use is going to be essential. I assume the phone is dead, as in, ya gotta wait for it to dry out before turning it on or it could easily develop a short, more importantly is that the water probably drained the battery, so that would be dead too. Deciding where to look, what to expect, and how valuable things are likely to be can be determined by Step 2 (hence why we did that one FIRST)
Step 4 - accomplice - once we get company it is important to get allies. Since we're already free we, in theory, can hop into Tom's vehicle and drive away. Forget trying to "get rid of" other people, just having a vehicle that can push them the other way or risk crashing, drive like a jerk, can get them to back off. They don't know what you're packing or the situation here, so they don't know want to play a game of chicken, and will likely back off. What's more is that they don't want to get the police involved, so odds are, they'll back off just from that.
Step 5 - confrontation - assuming they don't back off, immediately stop the car, but put it into reverse. If they don't back off then it's a stand-off, until they get out of their vehicle to confront us about ours. This is their mistake because if they think to trap us or threaten us, then our vehicle is already in "reverse" so simply letting off on the brakes will allow us to get away from them. It also reveals their hostile intentions, having the phone already out is another decent scare tactic here, limiting their options and maximizing our own.
Step 6 - blast-off - I was going to go into what to do if their vehicle blocks the drive way, being too snowed in to retreat... but looking at the images we get, the driveway is NOT too snowed in to simply take the car a little off-road, especially with some built-up momentum. So yeah, take that sucker for a spin and hit the open road. You can call the police later... or not.
Step 7 - arson - in a "cover my tracks" moment, I would return, perhaps a week later or so, and see what state the house is in. If the police are investigating, then there's nothing to do, maybe tell them what happened but otherwise, they'll likely contact me anyway about it. If the police are NOT investigating then... well, nobody's going to wait around a week for someone who may or may not show up. So, I'd place the body in the middle of the second-floor and begin piling up furniture directly underneath. Gather everything that can burn, gasoline, books, furniture, all of it. After all of this, nope, double-check, EVERYTHING that could indicate that I had ever even been there (a death occurred and I'm the only witness... not good). Then, with all of that, set it ablaze and get the heck outta Dodge! Doing my best to forget that this ever happened, no mementos, no keepsakes, nothing.

Honestly while I can understand the point is how to survive this scenario I think there's some important things to keep in mind which are kinda funny when ignored.
In normal scenarios of real life no one would already be experienced in lockpicking unless it's related to criminals activity OR if they looked up how to free yourself from ropes, handcuffs, cable ties etc. but realistically people don't look that up, because they don't consider it important and an unlikely scenario that won't happen to them because generally speaking people will always assume they are generally safe and won't expect bad things to happen.
While she was obviously nervous it's also obvious deep down she hoped for things to get better between them even if she didn't trust him.
From a third party POV he is definitely creepy and it was obvious something wrong was going to happen, but realistically she didn't realize his controlling behaviour (given people in a toxic relationship without physical abuse won't see it as abuse but a unhappy marriage most of the time, and that the partner changed not because they are actually a toxic piece of shit but because they both lost love for each other, at least that's what usually a person that doesn't recognise the toxic behaviour think, but not all of them think the same, this is one of the examples) and just assumed he was being cold and mean because the flame between them died, but didn't see it as controlling behaviour despite it was.
Also in a house he bothered to clean up entirely (aside from whatever is in the safe) it's clear that the garage won't have anything useful in it unless he forgot something small like a nail or similiar stuff that could resemble a paper clip.
Maybe in one of the drawers she might have even found one but being tied to him made it hard to move and look in every drawer, but realistically speaking paper clips and stuff are things people always forget or don't see in the drawers when emptying them so a paper clip in one drawer was definitely there by real life scenario, given we all most likely have one left in a random drawer.
    Another thing is the key.
I don't know if it's on his body but in the hypothetical case she actually looked for it on him he should have got rid of that as well, either by swallowing it, making it enter from behind if you get what I mean or most likely what happened, throwing it outside a window in the snow or maybe throwing it away immediately after buying them given you don't need the key to lock the handcuffs.
The only way some of the things explained in the video would happen only if he didn't prepared everything perfectly or almost, given it's a movie she will definitely find a way out of things but still.
Of course things like using the glass from objects and other things mentioned that apply the usage of decorative objects is smart but once again it's not in everyone book of necessities.
Also there's the emotional reaction to this scenario.
Even assuming all the helpful objects are available to use would you be emotionally and mentally stable to think and do all of that?
That's also a fundamental part on how to survive, because if you aren't in a good state mentally speaking and only think about the worst possible scenario or let stress take over you it won't work.

I agree with your statement. It’s obvious to us that Megan’s character didn’t find anything sus because he is super controlling and a narcissist. The outside perspective makes it easy for us to find it sus cause it’s a thriller, so duh. And I agree with what you said about using window glass to cut the arm off. It would take SO LONG to hack at his arm using broken glass. That would be incredibly traumatizing. I would NOT be able to do it that way tbh. The only other thing I could think of was using a door to smash/dislocate his hand to slip his hand out.

That’s a good question. I even bring my phone with me into the petrol station when I pay for petrol despite locking my car just in case there’s some kind of emergency.
I’m not someone who uses much social media so I don’t bring it with me to post or doomscroll or text but I just think it’s wise to always have it on you. It’s especially important if you’re alone. You never know what could happen. I’m prone to falls due to a disability and I’ve needed to call my husband outside to help me before while I was hanging up the washing and couldn’t get up unassisted.
The only place I don’t bring it is when I shower (mostly to avoid the moisture) but otherwise it’s always in my pocket or right next to me, or in my purse.

okay but it does not seam like its absurdly fucking cold so slam his hand, take his clothing and a blanket from the bed and move. Building an igloo isn't that hard and she doesn't need a big one which means its not going to take longer then a hour. maybe you can even burn the house and police may will come and pick you up half the way

I would probably smash the chain on the car door, then I would take off his clothes and wear his clothes. I wouldn’t wear the heels but I would use sheet on the foot. I would stay there to get resource. I would then use some sheets to use as a scarf. When someone would come I would look carefully. When Tom would come, I would stay there as they both can live around a month with water. When they realize they see the truck I would lock the door and not let Tom out as 1. It’s snow and makes them smaller 2. Somebody can impersonate as Tom in some way. I would hide but close to the door to see who goes through the door, maybe behind in the not glass part. That way if it’s trouble, they can sneak attack. But they should be careful if it is help. Emma had a Carley so I would use that as a weapon. When I see the plumber from inside I would stay quiet. When I see the second man, I would be nervous as it’s dead weight+girl+man. When they are way too in I would try locking the door from inside. It would be easy to run as I wouldn’t have dead weight as I seperate the chain. I would hide under the car as I might have an engine that can warm me up if it’s on giving me a signal going to the car when they keep distance. I would tell Tom to hide under the husband’s car. Again then hop in and DRIVE AWAY. Emma, u FVCKED UP
