Just a reminder, you don't need to force your opinion onto others. You can play old Minecraft and you will be able to play old Minecraft for a long time so just have fun.

i personally do not miss the old horror elements however I love that minecraft is still so big and beloved that this is even a video that can be made. I hope to see another 10 years from now
I used to play Minecraft on the Xbox 360 and it was pure nostalgic to look back, but I still think modern Minecraft is better
It's a nice argument, and to add a bullet point to both your "discovery" and "horror" elements:
- The recipe book has removed the experimentation element of trying various configurations of materials to craft things. The "Eureka" moment of trying something on a whim and it giving you an output just isn't there when it tells you everything you can make with the resources you have.
- Phantoms make being out after dark mechanically very risky, so the game pushes you to sleep through nights now instead of braving them or holing up as you hear the mobs outside. Ironically making the nights more dangerous made them less scary because you don't experience them as much anymore.
Yeah completely agree with your points here. The game's complexity has actually opened it up to be "simplified" in some ways that aren't really conducive to the original gameplay.
Honestly, I prefer modern minecraft than old minecraft, but I do wish mojang were to do something that will let you customize your world in a way that you can somewhat revert to old minecraft, we have access to the textures, but not mechanics, imagine being able to toggle the ability to have off hand, or the ability to block with a sword, maybe toggle the recipe book or customize which mobs are allowed to spawn or not (so far it's either all mobs, or a few specifics, imagine being able to toggle creepers off only).
Ofc, the best way to make those changes is via game rules, but too many would clutter them, and honestly, i was wondering, why not make sub-rules, like the following (doMobSpawning) to toggle all mobs but (doMobSpawning.phantom) to toggle phantom only instead of a separate game rule.
As well as add game rules like (doSwordBlocking) (default off) and (allowOffHand) (default on) and (allowRecipeBook) (default on) with sub-rules (allowRecipeBook.messages) and (allowRecipeBook.limited)
Good video man. When you brought up the horror elements being more prevalent back then i thought that was very insightful. As someone who is a big fan of horror I think it is an essential part of why I have a fondness for old minecraft; it never rly hit me with the fog til you gave that example, it really did give it a different atmosphere that I had managed to forget over the years. It was nice to be reminded of that element as well as the fact that creepers mixed with fog do suddenly become more creepy and less mascot-y lol.
It's simply because 1. The game was very straight forward and basic. 2. Everyone was learning the game together for the first time. You have no idea how great it was playing MC for the first time back in the day and with friends.
Yep, just messing around, getting hyped for finding diamonds or fishing out an enchantment book, first time finding out redstone and trying to do stuff with it, being scared shitless of enderman and creepers, ender dragon being the final big bad guy that seemed super op, strugling to get food etc.. Now everything just seems old and super simple + most of the friends you used to play with have jobs or stuff to do
old versions are cool and stuff because of the old memories we had, if we talk purely about the versions theyre clearly better, i dont think anyone would spend hundreds of hours playing the old versions without getting bored
@itziiko7268 of course not, that is because everyone know the game now, and there's a million YT tutorials. You can pretty much be a pro at the game before u even play. In 2011, all u had was terrible quality let's plays that took weeks to progress. Watch noobsniper. One of the first let's play people
@itziiko7268 no one will enjoy old versions now because everyone knows MC already. There are a million tutorials, and people are so good and advanced at the game that motivation is simply not there.
Personally I don’t really like old minecraft. I myself played the alpha version of the mobile and the version of Java minecraft in 2014-2015. It really kinds of makes me wonder a lot of things. I could do a lot of buildings now with much more variety, much more blocks, much more mechanics. But if I want to keep it simple, I also could. Survival and beating the game isn’t everything for me
Guess another important aspect is the connection between the older minecraft version and their young age. As i remember i was 13 when i got minecraft and i had no big topic besides school in my life but now im 20 im studying, going to gym, meeting regular friends and many more.
The Memorie of old and light times is a huge aspect in combination between a game and the age of the game
Loved this video. personally, my biggest reason on why i loved old minecraft was the mods, especially from yogscast and later on creators like popularmmos, dantdm, ssundee and etc. I do miss old minecraft, but i think its perfect to leave it as it is.
Really, modern Minecraft is well, better. More polished, more features, etc.
People denying that Current is better, are delusional.
But, better does not always mean something is more fun, sometimes simplicity is best, especially when taking into account the nostalgia that old Minecraft brings.
I personally prefer modern Minecraft, but I understand why people would prefer old Minecraft.

reminds me of another game that makes me feel that same way aswell. breath of the wild - i loved this game and played for a long time and i was so excited for the new "tears of the kingdom" game to come out and its release date has came and passed and i tried it and have hardly played it at all and objectively it is a better game but in my heart i will always have love for the original and cant make myself play the new game. coming from your normal viewers i enjoyed this video because i made a jokey suggestion in SBM that the admins should make a seperate sb gamemode where its all from december 31st 2019 and before and just like old SB, so this video fits in with that idea.
the beauty of minecraft is that its a game where you can enjoy any version you like at any time, anywhere, and it would be fun to see SB get the same treatment considering its IN minecraft

great video derailious. it inspired me to do more derailing. the answer is that it's not (for me). legacy minecraft is over 10 years old and uses a 10 year old version of minecraft. in my opinion, it's incredibly unoptimized, featureless, and quite frankly soulless.
mod development, features, the code base, everything has been improved in modern minecraft. the times i've played legacy survival are nostalgic, but they feel clunky when i know how modern feels like today. even simple things like textures and swimming make all the difference as you move up the versions.
not to mention from a mod developer's perspective modern minecraft is infinitely better, with modding tools and apis being improved greatly.

people say old minecraft is better purely for nostalgia ik cause im one of them but i can understand that modern minecraft is better also when we were playing old minecraft we were young and impressionable and it was all new and interesting back then
nostalgia doesn't work like that my dear, if you play a game out of pure nostalgia you risk getting bored after a few hours and then stop playing it, I never played Minecraft before 1.20 and yet I love and plays regularly in beta
@@kholispo6800 which is what these guys do and I do we play for a few hours and get bored but still say it's better because we want it to be better you say you've never played before 1.20 so then you wouldn't understand the nostalgia of old Minecraft the reason it was so fun back in the day was cause we played with our mates all the time but now no one plays at least not the original ones

People who think old Minecraft is better are kind of dumb in my opinion. The newer and well polished version we have now is way better. But old Minecraft has a charm to it.

The last Monecraft version I have downloaded is 1.16, as I belive the older versions are better and personally 1.12 is the best with all those og mods
i've been playing since 1.2 so 2012, i cannot play pre 1.14 minecraft, it doesn't look good and it's pretty boring
I don't think old minecraft is better at all, the only reason I might enjoy it is because of nostalgia. I think the game today is far better, there's much more content than in the old versions.

True, but I still enjoy the calm nature of the older versions. I dont need there to be a ton of content in minecraft. I just want a calm nice world to go around and get lost in, a nice space to build and thats it. I dont know why exactly but I just dont have the same motivation to do that in the newer versions

IMO 1.12.2 is the best version, as it has most of the meaningful features of modern minecraft while still having that lonely but comforting feeling which I think Minecraft has lost in newer versions.
