Thanks for the video. I literally just got my 7300 in the mail yesterday and was setting it up today when I came across this video. I did the update with zero issues.
Good job covering the update. Good tip on the pdf manual and searching. Getting acquainted with my M1 Mac, my last Mac was the SE over 30 years ago. 73
I might get an M1 soon, would be interesting to see how well they do/how compatible they are. Search youtube for #MARCHintosh for some vintage mac memories starting in March!
According to my old man when I was growing up, I could break an anvil, but this didn't break my 7300, either. I need a few days where I can coordinate some local help with no thunderstorms looming, and I can check it out. Yes, that's right. I updated it before it was ever keyed up!
Hi Steve, Seems to be easy. I'll file it for future reference in case I buy a 7300. Wish you had shown the version screen after the update. You and the family stay safe. 73 WJ3U
Thanks for the video. The document doesn't go into detail on the FT8 preset. So it just holds all the settings for when you want to do FT8? When I do FT8, I just switch to the proper sideband and click digital. Is there more to it?
Yes, there is more to it and this is supposed to get you all setup - rear data, mic off, volume in/out levels, etc. There are some videos on how to do it manually floating around. So in theory, you turn on the radio, configure it with "FT8 Preset" and then connect the software and go! Give it a crack and see what kind of contacts you get... and then join us Thursdays for #FT8Off fun.
I just now received my IC7300 from HRO. What firmware will it come with? Do I have to have an SD card to do the firmware update?. Don't have my power supply yet so i can't see what's in the new rig.
It sounds like the only risk is a power failure. If you are a night person, I would not upgrade just after the bars close in your town. Some telephone poles like to jump out in front of drunk drivers. The best way to do this any time is on battery power. But it’s only 15 seconds.

Excellent! You're gonna enjoy that radio!

I did not break my radio either. Thanks for the heads up that it was available .
No problem Steve

Glad it worked out for you. I haven't been in the presence of an anvil to see if I could break it... Bet I'm right there with you.
Should not post this early. That coordination is for getting my HF antenna in the air.
@@signalscout6020 I think I was following you
Thanks for making this video. I've updated my 7300 and will need to download the 9700 update as well. 73 N8OIF
I bet it's very similar
Thank you for the informative tutorial. I don't do update yet on my 7300.
Thanks for watching!

Yeah, me too Don. It only changed the main version to 1.40
Great Video Steve, update went smoothly!
Good to hear!
Holy crap I didn't break it!! Thanks for the instructions.
Didn't you have an upgrade that went sideways? That would stink!
@@temporarilyoffline No thankfully not. Maybe Ape?
Oh...that guy. Figures.
Nice job TO 👍
Thanks brother!
This ham radio thing is amazing.
It sure is a good way to pass the bread around and have fun!

I doubt you'll get the latest firmware in the box. You do need the SD card to update the firmware.

I've seen people do stupid things... but yeah, this is pretty safe.
Thanks for video TO
Thanks for being awesome Joe/Brett!
@@temporarilyoffline 🥰🤪
Went as planned, thanks. Russ /WJ9F
Excellent! All reports have been good.
Déjà vu.
Nice job TO.
Who did it better?
@@temporarilyoffline That's hard to say.
I'll give it to you, simply because of your Duck Duck Go mention.
I was only kidding anyway. It's a hot topic today and there are like 30 vids out already!
It's a good thing I'm not in a competition. Lol
This video is old. It is version 1.41 now.
Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look
