You are on it! Top channel for the 7300! Just got my radio a week ago and have been binge-watching your A-Z series. Thanks for your hard work putting these presentations together.
Thank you, Tom, for another superb instructional video on the IC-7300. Your work is very much appreciated and I look forward to the next one. 73, Bob, AI6ZG
Based on your great video I updated the firmware on my IC-7300 and IC-9700. Your pointing out the save settings was great advice! Thank You. 73 de N2LRB
Thanks OM. I followed your very good video. So many people rush through their step by steps, but I can follow you in real time. Thanks again. de K2PMD.
@@Capecodham Burt fast forward to timeline 18:25 on the video clip above and you will hear him say there will be a part 2. Hope that answers your question.
Yes. I wish there was a better (easier) option for dimming. I find bright backlight way too bright for nighttime use. Then when I dim it, I have trouble seeing it during the day. It is a pain to have to work through the set menus each time. I have an idea for a fix that may be in an upcoming video. Stay tuned…
Thanks Tom. I will use Scroll mode always. Hated center mode and loosing the pointer. Good thing I didn't complaiant or they would not have fixed it :)
Hi Tom, am i right in saying if you have no particular personal settings i the ic 7300, like memory channels and stuff like that, when you update it can you go straight into the update firmware file and not worry about saving old settings etc....F
I noticed the kHz up in the right corner of the screen also like my IC-705. The scope scroll is great because I hated that scope out of range message or maybe that didn't change? I like to attempt to listen to CB radio but there is no scope. Maybe this doesn't help though. I'll check it out. Did they fix the Scope in the IC-705 in this last update?
hi i enjoy all of your a-z ic-7300 videos thank you so much. here is my question. I am a general license brand new ham and like to set the band edges (1 of the 4) to the frequency's i can use as a general licensee, works fine except for the 6Meter band. it does not let me set an edge from 50.100 to 54.000? is there a work around thank you very much :-)
Thx for the overview Tom. Do you know what happens to the N1MM external 'Scope' when the IC-7300 has the new 1.4 update. Does it mirror the Scroll features ? I am just wondering if that N1MM display feature breaks if I do the update from 1.3 to 1.4. Having the larger Waterfall on my Laptop has been a real asset.
I have a IC 7300 with 1.3 firmware. Also is has the menu and audio directions in Japanese. Will the 1.4 firmware fix this program or do I need to do more programing to get the radio into English?
The 1.4 update is not related to the display language. So you need to set that back to English manually. To do this, press the MENU button. Then select SET mode. It is the bottom, right option on the menu screen. Then select DISPLAY options. That will be the 4th option down from the top. Display Language is the very last option on the display menu. So scroll all the way to the bottom. Then tap that option and you should be able to select English
Hi Fred. Thanks for the comment. I’ve seen similar comments several times over a couple years. I have gone back and played my videos on RUclips several times after seeing these. I hear everything fine with my computer at normal volume. So, not sure what is going on. In any case I’ll try to look into it further.
Hi Tom, do you know what causes the horizontal interference lines on your spectrum display? I have the same issue and have failed to track it down. It happens on mine, even running from battery and house isolated from the mains grid.
Updating the firmware will reset all of the previous owners settings to factory default, so no need for you to backup the settings data prior to your initial firmware update. Good idea to save backup files along the way as you personalise your settings. I'd suggest you save the factory defaults immediately after updating the firmware, making it easy to start again from scratch if need be. If you're not already aware, one thing not mentioned in this video is the need to format the SD card using the Format option under SD Card in the 7300's Setting menu before loading the card into the device you have the downloaded/extracted firmware file saved.
I don’t imagine you’re stupid at all. Everyone learns and thinks differently. Many people probably wish there was a contest filter button. One way to avoid contest traffic is to stay on the WARC bands ( 30M 17M 12M). Contests don’t use those bands.
@@HamRadioA2Z Neither does anyone else. 30 is almost vacant, 17 is sparse and 12 is dead. I made changes on, "Normal" but when I try and save them is asks me if I want to delete them. Can I widen AM to 3+ Khz?
Thank you for this well made video! But I do have a question. Is REF really the frequency calibration? I think REF is the reference level of the band spectrum!?
Hi Uwe. There is a REF for the spectrum scope reference level. However, the REF that the warning refers to is the REF Adjust setting that you will find under the Set -> Function menus. The REF Adjust setting allows you to calibrate the internal reference frequency for the radio. It is a number from 1 to 100 and each radio may have a different number from the factory calibration.
I so appreciate your tutorials. I would appreciate it if you could slow down a tiny bit and try to keep your hand from blocking the view of which button you are selecting. I’m computer illiterate, and need to clearly understand each step. And again, I-love-your-work! N8STN

Wish the ic-7100 would get an update. They could do so much more with the menus like add dimming to the quick menu for a mobile radio.

The largest span that the spectrum scope can show is 1Mhz. So for 6 meters you need to divide the band up into 1Mhz segments.
