Mavis Staples - Since I Fell For You

- There have been lots of covers of "Since I Fell For You" over the years since it was composed by Buddy Johnson in 1945. The versions by Dinah Washington and Lenny Welch are very lovely but for sheer breathtaking soul, power and emotion, this version by Mavis Staples is the best in my opinion. I would go as far as to say that this is one of my favorite female vocal performances of all time. I hope someone out there loves it as much as I do :).

What an Amazing Voice this Lady Had!
She Could Stand Shoulder to Shoulder With All the of the Greatest Female R&B Vocalist's!
She Never Got All the Recognition She Deserved!
Facts💯🙂
She still HAS an amazing voice!
she OWNS this song!
I absolutely love her cover of the song.
WoW! I never heard this before! I am speechless,tongue-tied and bewitched by this vocal! Thank you for sharing.
I saw her live with Buddy Guy and it was amazing!
MAVIS STAPLES IS ANOTHER GENUINE R&B SINGER SONGWRITER
AND MUSIC PRODUCER AND I HAVE ALWAYS APPRECIATE HER AS
ANOTHER GREAT LEGENDARY RECORDING ARTIST, YES ONE OF
THE BEST DURING THE LATE 60'S
AND 70's STILL AROUND AFTER
HER BIG HITS, W/GOSPEL & SOUNDTRACKS
FROM THE MOVIE
"LET'S DO IT AGAIN" etc.
this is the best version of this song, without a doubt. MAVIS is extraordinaire. I love her
Incomparable rendition by Mavis.
The greatest - this is the definitive version! Mavis is amazing!
her tracks on boy meets girl LP are some of the best soul ive ever had the pleasure to hear
Mavis is outstanding. This is also my favorite version.
i like her singing this tune, but the Dells own it.
@@gregorybatiste1524 This belongs to Mavis!
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 73yo Aussie fan.
There is never a lie in her song.
I love MAVIS STAPLE , she the real deal Since i felt you, you made me leave my happy home, i heard manny version of this song but MAVIS STAPLE has that bluesy sound, The STAPLE SINGERS was Gospel ,and folks, chorus with blues music sounds, if Mavis STAPLE has started out with Blues, and Rhymes and Bluses singing, all i says move over Athera franklin here comes Mavis STAPLE. Mavis STAPLE was Second to none! Her voice was Barton, deep and sexy, and make you feel every bit of love and note. That she sang, i love my self some Areath franklin Queen of Soul musice, but i think Mavis STAPLE would have given her a little bit Challenge, Mavis STAPLE been around about the same time Queen of Soul, or maybe Pop STAPLE been around about the same time The REV.C.L.FRANKLIN did i read some where Pop STAPLE was Singing with his own Band back i 1945 they all knew each other they all came from Mississippi. And Jackson Mississippi. So Please listen to MAVIS STAPLE sing Since i felt for you, sing by MAVIS STAPLE solo in 1970 the year. THANKYOU.!
THANKYOU
I fell for it back in '71 bro. At her best, Mavis was one of the best "soul" female vocalist of all time. IMHO, no one has topped her version of " A House is not a Home"
Luther Vandros has topped Mavis for his version of "A House is Not a Home".
Eli Fountaine’s saxophone riff adds a perfect touch to the song. Mavis voice is untouchable to this day!
@@whodatsuperbowlqueen5778 Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but mine remains the same. While Luther's version is good (even great, if you like), my opinion is that his version's absolutely cannot top Mavis' version.
@@weyde1 Like you said everyone has their own opinion. Enjoy your day!
@@whodatsuperbowlqueen5778 Enjoy yours too.
Marvelous Mavis!
The incomparable Mavis sings it well, and it's one of the few arrangements that rides out the ending, rather than drawing it out. A must.
Simply awesome. Every time I hear this woman sing I fall in love with her
Mavis got straight to the point with her version..no fluff just straight soul!..
Lady Mavis took it to the mountains. Plural. Every single damned one of them.
So soulful, God she is amazing.
maybe the best version I ever heard. feeel it.
So Beautiful.
Damn that voice!
Absolutely beautiful! All feeling...
Mavis Staples is the best, can't wait for her and Patty Griffin tour this summer! Going to Colorado to see them.

Mavis you have such a beautiful voice sang the song I could listen to you all night 👧 girl you is putting down on this song
Thank you for giving me a beautiful companion to have my morning coffee with. She's with me many mornings but i haven't heard this particular version of this until just now. Of course I knew it was going to be perfection because it is after all, Mavis Staples. This lady could sing the HELP WANTED ads from a newspaper and touch my soul.
And now I know why BOB DYLAN asked for her hand in marriage!! This woman is the most talented female singer alive today - 2010!!! I can almost hear her very spirit. Ah ha. Soul music..
So NASTY, so Sultry!!! Go on with yo BAD self Ms. Mavis.
With heartfelt & deepest sympathy!
Wonderfully sung.
Love Mavis Staples.
Wonderful !!!!

This is a great version of Mavis Staples' heartfelt voice and soulful sound.
Laura Lee also has a great version of this song too.
Thanks for posting!

LINDAJONEDS
While I love Mavis Staples and this is an amazing version of the track that I have known most of my life. In the 70's the track was also released by Laura Lee on Hot Wax Records and it is a dynamo. Check it out there are a few copies on RUclips. At some point we will make a production of it.
If you like this one, you should also check out Nina Simone's rendition, it's very bluesy
And Laura Lee, these women are so, so, so soul.
EVIDENCE-YOU
No version of this great song can equal the power and emotional depth of the great Laura Le,you cant listen to her version without breaking into tears but Mavis is clearly the second best
Laura Lee has a fantastic voice but I find the arrangement of her version too fussy. I much prefer this, more straight forward interpretation. It's a simple song, no need to over do it and Mavis got the balance right in my opinion.
Speedo Jones
I much prefer this cover. Mavis is great. Laura is merely good there. My choice.
I do love MAVIS but no one sings this like LAURA LEE and I have heard lots of people sing it but LAURA has my vote, man can she sing this song ,love it love it ,the singers of today need to listen to these singers and learn how to really put out a song , you see these singers knew how to put themselves in a song, man I miss that.
Dwight Graves good looks that version is bananas!
i wanna know how to get the guitar sound out of my Stratocaster
TEMPTATIONS
@taddyd1 Al, Al Jarreau , The one and only version!!!!!
Although I love Mary J , Aretha, no one comes close to Mavis !
....what can I do, I'm SO in love with you...
Please listen to Laura Lee's version of this song. These sisters are so very great!
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a 72yo Aussie fan.
Laura Lee's version is simply inferior to Mavis Staple's.
Really annoying all those spoken lyrics by Laura!!!!!!!!!!
John Benn they’re about her affair with al green.
Laura lee is the bomb singing this just listen to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bonnie Raitt and Nina Simone deserve honorable mentions on this also, but Mavis rules.
Aretha and Patti we're waiting. Johnny Mathis could rock this too- live- but his recording has a cheesy orchestration.
The is awesome, but the drummer should’ve been slapped for those over powering rim shots in the beginning
Mavis is great, but I prefer Annie Laurie
Oh my...
