I remember listening to Mavis sing "I'll take you there" in the late 60's and early 70's and her sound was magical and sensual, it made me feel up... I was 10 yrs old then and loved her style... she and her group is the "I GOT A DREAM", personified in all dimensions.
noel cleghorn ... maybe I'm an idiot but I do not know the word...litomasess ... but I could tell you... her voice is like an angel singing... and you talking about sexy that the one voice I could have married didn't even care what she look like
I love her voice, I have from the beginning! Good old fashioned mixture of soul and gospel. Ain't nothing better!! Thankyou so much for posting I love it!!!!
Amen, amen , amen!! I absolutely love it when a singer truly feels their songs. . .makes for an awesome experience. Love Mavis' crescendo and the way she is spent afterward, 7:15-7:59
i had commented 5 years ago but i now see some comments that i want to silence the staple singers are the ones that put people together in their music the message are seeking and gathering those folk that are apart it is what the world need then and now even worse these songs are needed in the churches clubs theater's parks all over we will be a better place if we practice what mavis potrays LOVE the utmost importance is love sing it mavis let them feel it in their bones their heart is tough bones softer sing on angel mavis peace
I remember having the biggest crush on Mavis Staples as young kind. All of my friends were into Funkedelics, Bootsy albums and here I am, bringing along my Staple Singers albums. But today, Mavis is still making music...so there!
Heartbreaking to know that it's gone forever -- "Touch a Hand, Make a Friend" has been replaced by 'DON'T TOUCH ME! GET AWAY FROM ME!" as we "socailly distance" ourselves (and mask our faces from one another) just in order to stay alive. Our bodies will survive --- but our souls . . .???
The Staples Singers Probably doesn't remember my Sister's My Brother & my Dad was on the Same Program with the Staples Singers in the South at East Side High School Auditorium in Cleveland Mississippi we Song one of their Song I don't remember which one but we were so Nervous just knowing we were on the Program with them we have always sang their Songs ❤️😇🙏
She's a bizarre mix of Diana Ross, Janis Joplin, Etta James, Aretha and Whitney Houston as singers and Viola Davis as show(wo)manship... or in other words they are all like Mavis Staples...
LOL!! OlaDaylax... But to answer your question, according to Mavis (from a radio interview, about a year ago) all of the siblings are still alive and well, but unfortunately, Cleotha has Alzheimer's, and it's at the worse stage where her memory is pretty much gone.
the difference is, the father is a member of the group; not the manager. Also, they embraced their spirituality; the Jacksons were at odds with theirs.
I was gonna say "this aint a gospel record" b4 I listened to the whole performance. I was thinking of the original studio version on their 1973 album, which I loved. But...THIS is indeed a gospel record here!! Wow!
Introduced to their music by my youth pastor in the 70's. Always have had an impact on my life. Makes you want to do more and be more for Jesus.... PTL
When Mavis sings it's impossible for me not to believe every single word she says. In all honesty, I never believed in the faith, goodness, and especially any sort of spirit we all have inside of us. And most definitely I had no belief in God. Mavis Staples is responsible for showing me what spirit is. How could anyone watch this lady and not know spirit or truth? It wasn't long after I first heard the Staples, and my want to believe, I was touched by His hand. And still holding hers.
i had the pleasure of seeing mavis in concert in germany a little while ago and the beautiful vibes that she floated over us let me know angels are amongst us. i would have loved to have seen mavis and the great sam cooke sing together love and peace and many thanks for posting this wonderful lady j vincent edwards
@grodvil what in hell or heaven does this comment have anything in relation to the video??? i'm actually curious now, was there something in the video that made you tick?
I so LOVE You Tube!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this footage. . .Nine minutes of greatness. . .[bowing with my arms doing that wave motion] We're not worthy. . .we're not worthy!
Absolutely awesome. God Bless them all. I saw them in ine 70's and they opened for van Morrison. It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. And I have seen a few.......
There is just something extra in Mavis - never heard anyone else like her. She took this song on away from here.

oh boy - her emotion at the end (4:02) - she's feeling it! don't know what she's thinking, but bless her soul!

+noel cleghorn Yes she is!!!!
noel cleghorn ... maybe I'm an idiot but I do not know the word...litomasess ... but I could tell you... her voice is like an angel singing... and you talking about sexy that the one voice I could have married didn't even care what she look like

A real voice.
Actually there were five siblings. Cynthia, the youngest died many years ago.(1974 i think) She did not perform with the group.
the difference is, the father is a member of the group; not the manager. Also, they embraced their spirituality; the Jacksons were at odds with theirs.
I was gonna say "this aint a gospel record"
