Yes it's very impressive. But remember that legion is mental above physical. I am French and hear that lots of 20 year olds fail, but 30 year old succeed (or even 35+). Because sometimes you don't have the mental strength and you simply want to say "f*** it" (especially when you are young with better options); But you're right, physically it's way easier at 20.
I said the very same thing while watching it for the first time. The hardest part by FAR is to adapt to that military life as a civilian. The biggest difference is that he's going through this selection among soldiers that's been in the legion for probably at least 1-2 years or more. Anyone that has served knows the thing about "not knowing" takes time to adapt to, even after years you still feel that it sucks. But you are adapted to it, so it is much easier. Next thing is that as a civilian you are not "trained" or accustomed to how to manage things like this. You have to rest, eat, drink whenever you can. This is something that feels "stupid" at first, but you quickly realize how much it matters in the long run. "I don't feel like eating"...nope, just stfu and eat. Last but not least. I hope people realize that Magnus is 36(!), most do simliar selections when they are in their (early) 20's. This would have been impressive even if he would've been in his 20's, but now...at 36...just simply wow! Oh, and the very final words. Magnus have what matters more than just a great physique, he was that willpower. A will to just keep pushing. It doesn't matter how fit you are, if you just can't suck it up. I've seen lots and lots of super-fit guys fail selection due to they lack the mental strength.
I am French. The hats are Képis and worn by all officers of the French Army not just the legion. The Legion does have an exclusive White Képis though, a legacy from the heat of colonial Africa.
This about taking the opportunity to sleep when you can between exercises for between 10-15 minutes, we call it Power Nap in Sweden. Because then the brain and body have time to recover, because if Magnus had taken a Power Nap, he would not have been as tired. Then he would have been able to fight better and be more alert.
The whole french armée de terre wear the képi expect paratroopers who wear their red beret. The légion wear a spécial képi the "képi blanc" which they obtain during their initial training after a 70+km. They can get a black képi after 17,5 years of service.
@@combatreadyhq The képi is standard in all of the French army "armée de terre" (and only for men the woman wear a tricorne) with color depending of your branch for the FFL its white. And with accessories depending on your rank. For the general, it is generally gray with a number of stars depending on whether he is in charge of a brigade, division, etc...
Grappling when ure exhausted is the worst, it's all about fighting against your lazy self saying "hey let's have some rest and let go we'll make up for it later on", and each microsecond you do, you stockpile a debt you'll never be able to afford ... I hated that, costs so much energy, but when you finally get out on your feet, what a relief and pride :)
You have to stay calm, these are just the tests to be admitted to mountain commando training. The real training and the real suffering comes after. You really have to be made of the hardest metal to become a "special operator" of the Legion. Much younger and in another century I did the commando training to become a reserve officer in the conventional army and I don't have only good memories of it, without my comrades who helped and supported me I don't think I would have succeeded, yet 10 years of rugby in second row in a good semi-pro club had prepared me (at least I was convinced of it).😶😶

again his go, I have the impression that there is no bcp of trials the most is when you go back to the legion and abroad, it's really still more hard, you have proofs that last for months without sleep or eating
That fight training, dang, thing is as Combat Ready HQ can attest, if you are that out of breath, i dont care how well trained you are you will lose 100 procent of the time against a rested opponent, your just not capable of putting up any resistance.

Magnus would not at all be annoyed by this. Besides, he only got 3kviews compared to the smillion views that Magnus got on the video. Magnus is probably a million naive. $10 from reactingto the video is to 99% of people okay.
Don't forget that Magnus is also 36 years old doing this, he's insane.

In the American Civil War, the caps were called kepis. The Zouave uniforms were seen as fancy and definitely stood out

One thing that I've heard someone say. Why stand if you can sit, why sit if you can lay down and why be awake if you can sleep
So true
The hat is a képi which is not exclusive to the Foreign Legion, and I think pre-WWI was even standard for the whole french army.
Ok thank you for the info

The white kepi and the Beret is only the Legion.

The real pain in the legion comes when you enter the regiment ^^
Before it is just a taste of the legion.
