Wow, your grandfather is part of the history then. When did you find out he was his teacher. Did he talk about that period? I would like to hear more about this.
Outside of Gene Pitney, this is quite simply the BEST rendition of this classic song ever performed, and with the guitar solo, even better. With his big band, he takes it to the next level.
Very good version, certainly the best I ever heard of that song. I love the background voices. The Stray Cats were the greatest rockabilly band for sure....
@anewengland if I'm right that's his first teacher, a saxophonist named Henry Scurti. He thought him musical lessons. Did not play the guitar. I forgot where I found the pic on internet. Mr. Scurti passed away some years ago.
Okay I love the way Gene Pitney sang it . Then The Dickies did a cover too . There version is great as well . Now I'm listening to the stray cats take a crack at it . There cover really sounds really great as well !
Thanks for uploading. I've got to say that I much prefer the Gene Pitney version from the movie "Town Without Pity". Here is a link to a live version of Pitney performing the song: TOWN WITHOUT PITY. Once again, thanks for uploading this version, since I didn't know it existed.
Two similar, but unique styles. Love em both, though I am a biased Setzer fan. But, Pitney is one of Setzer's two favorites, Eddie Cochran being the other.
Stray cats did a great job they did this classic justice
What a great video! I was excited when I saw my grandfather, Henry Scurti, with Brian in his kitchen. Henry was his teacher in Massapequa n.y.

Thanks so much for this clip. The Stray Cats did a great job on this one. Gene Pitney was a hard act to follow. Just love this song.
I love this album! Why has this not got more views and likes?
One of my faves, too
YT ai only wants garbage music now. Thats why. 🤡
The legendary Stray Cats did a grest version of this sing. The kings of rockabilly still ❤ them in 2023 and beyond.

The best you've ever heard? You've never heard Gene Pitney sing it? this is a nice enough tribute, but he owns it
I luv the Cats but this is just horrible compared to GP.
Gene Pitney originally sang this song. It’s way better with him. Not a fan of this version.
Sorry Guys, I knew the original version but I love this cover! Probably because I'm a huge Stray Cats fan...
I agree about the legendary Stray Cats the whole package no competition.
Gent Pitney put this song on the charts...the best by far.
Those pictures take me back....I was 12 and miserable. This song was perfect; I played it over and over on the record player.
Outstanding harmonizing by the lead singer.
Didn't know this existed - thanks for posting.
Yeah that's a great version!
Me neither.
great version!!!
Lily from the Voice took me here. May 2017 :-)

Check out Ronnie Montrose's instrumental version. It's spectacular as well--and I'm the world's biggest Gene Pitney fan!

Where's the old "bump and grind" sound about midway through?
Never in same league as G P`s one ........not heard it before and it was a nice change but really not quoted to original .
I forgot: congrat for the video...
With Nile Rodgers and Herbie Hancock
Massapequa’s Own.
usually you hear this song with the big band
You know there were White ball players on the Brooklyn Dodgers case you forgot
You know his BSO version too?
Not bad but not Pitney.
Trying to check over Gene Pitney is like trying to cover the Beatles.
