‘87, 4.0, red, two door, tinted rear windows, 330k (cause I have a ‘92 Saab vert that gets the nod on sunny days). My fave Jeep is MY Jeep. Even after 2020, when it got rear ended, then stolen, she’s back on the road, and runs sweet. Steal my Compass, and I won’t shed a tear!
I have a 92 XJ with 268,000 and still going strong. I paid $550 with very minimal rust. I did a custom 5" lift with 33's and it's my work vehicle/weekend wheeler.
My first xj was an 88 with 340k miles. The only repairs I made was 2 U joints, and a tune up. Thing ran great. I'm doing a full build on a neglected 00 xj right now.
Wow..88! mine too! I dragged that poor thing along way past it's time.. it couldn't even accelerate up hill. Sad to see it go but I was impressed that it never wanted to quit.
The blacked out look is insanely badass! I've got a light blue 97 myself with a 3in rough country lift on 31s and over 250,000 on the original motor, still pulls like a beast! Oh, and I've driven my buddy's auto, and for me, I'll stick with the manual all day every day.

Sold my 01ram 1500 to a guy for 1100 bucks. I was like is that all youve got, he was like well ive got my moms old xj that has no heat and a blown HG. Went and checked it out.... so clean and minty, very little rust so i made the deal. Had the heater core and ac condensor replaced even though it had ice cold air. Had the HG checked out, works just fine, one of the best deals ive ever had. Worked flawless this winter, Heads up if you have the 5 speed they really do wake up the motors, feels like your driving a wrangler.
I got me an extremely low mileage rebuilt rear wheel drive transmission for $100.00! exact match for my 98 rwd XJ!! The kids had it rebuilt then a year later decided to up grade it to 4wd. Skeptical I was but we are jeep peeps so I got it. No metallic dust anywhere inside looking good. Now let me tell you the secret to solo trans swap 1) a trans jack, 2) new hex hex bolts to spec length if longer use washers 3)*** second set of housing bolts 2 inches longer*, chop* off the hex head on all 4 and use them as guides***, thread them into the block also front tire ramps and rear axle jack stands. I am 500 miles into the replacement trans Not a single glitch from installation. Also did in place hack rebuild 6 months ago, upgrade 2000 intake, new timing chain, all seals, all bearings, remove cat, fix the rear sag with Durango center spring swap and got small lift runs like a dream! When the wrangler is done I will be set perhaps an RV to hit the road! with a tow behind. Woo Hoo!!!

I am getting ready to get a late 80s early 90s Jeep Cherokee and do it all over again it was extremely financially inexpensive because all I have to do is replace windshield the old boy that has it had a tree limb fall on the windshield
mine is a 98 and is by far my favorite year. No head issues, but has all the modern luxuries of a 97-01. I like the overhead console from the classic. I got the sport/classic body/harness so i can hook it right up to the classic harness. Upgrade to ignition coil packs and ur done.
i have an 01 with 100,500 miles on it and its basically rust free. I just put a 4.5 rc lift on it and i love it. I plan on sealing the underside with por 15 to try and preserve it because theyre hard to find rust free and i'll probably axle swap it in the future
Just found your channel. I love it! Great content😎 Always been a huge xj fan (TJs too) havent owned a XJ for probably 10 years but I got the itch and just had to buy another one. After this latest buying experience I have to say I have one nitpick with your video.... the part where you said you could pick up a good rust free southern XJ for $3000.??!!?? 🤣 I beg to differ, I scoured the southeastern United States for months and finally found a nice one, a 1998 4wd SE with 65k miles and no rust but had to pay $10,000 for it!!... and that was cheap compared to any other decent ones I found. Many of the really nice ones were selling for over $20,000🤯🤯. That is so absurd it's hard to comprehend but people are paying it. Seems rust free, low mileage xjs have gone from a budget 4x4 to a high dollar collector's item. Lol
Holy cow! 10k!!! That's nuts! I guess the XJs are increasing in value exponentially. Glad you got one though. Welcome back to the club 😎. Thanks for your support!
I got my first one for $600, rocker panels were rotted out and my electric was temperamental but it still goes strong and has over 200K miles on it! I’ll own that thing until the good lord takes me away!
Great Video! I was hoping you'd do your 5 Favorites soon. And of course I will agree with loving the 00-01 XJ's! ;) Are those the after-market smoked marker lights? I'm thinking about putting the clear ones on mine. Love the looks of your Black Beauty!
I've always preferred the pre 97 xj's myself due to looks and general feel of the build quality in comparison but, you certainly make a good argument. Yours looks the dogs bollocks! Might have to find another one to add to my Fleet. Nice vid
Well thank you Sir! According to Eddie Izzard the dogs bollocks mean I did well! Haha. I agree the 2ng gen XJs have a cheaper more plastic feel compared to the older ones, nonetheless, i still like em very much! I hope you add more to your fleet and Thanks again!
Love that they are square body, love you don’t have to do much to make them look cool. Love there so badass to drive. I love they have something go wrong they all seem to have the same thing. Easier to figure it out. I have a 99, 2000, and a 2001 one. All in good shape. Ya need some rocker work. Have a 2000 for a beater and 99 for parts. Should part with some. I gave my boy 16 the 2000. My other boy has the 99 he will be 16 next year. Yup the XJ family for sure, love your channel! Keep up the good work! Thank you, Rick Batchelor from Maine
Wow. That sounds amazing. I recommend starting with bolt on mods first.. until you get the feel for the style you want to go with. whatever you do don't cut the fenders!
99 xj classic amithist blue/ purple overland style. I love the styleing of the xjs . The affordability the 4.0 solid axles (caint find anymore on modern SUVs) the reliability
I just got into an accident and totaled my 1999 toyota tacoma that also had an inline v6 and i've been looking into getting a 2001 cherokee xj, I've found one that has a 4in lift, an aftermarket bumper, and new wheels and tires with only 91k miles on it for a decent price. appreciate the tips and stuff you give on these suv's man.
Paid $400 for a rust free south Texas almost mint 98 XJ that only needed a fuel pump and battery. Even came equipped with a JL audio system. Beats my Liberty in the looks and cargo space.
I have a 99 xj with 306k on the dash and she still runs like a champ. This is my first jeep. But if/ when mine finally does die, I will be searching for another one.

I had two xj’s but figured I’d make the switch to the Zj since there basically the same vehicle with minor differences in between them. Oh it’s just about to crack 215,000 also it’s the 4.0 not the 5.2 or 5.9 limiteds just the plan Jane Laredo 4.0.
Ha just bought a garage kept 2000 cherokee up here in ne pa..perfect no rust 4.0 no rust at all..165k miles for 900..old man bought it to turn it i to a lifted jeep...hope it isnt hard installing a lift..cant be worse than a lift on a WK limited i got.
My ex-wife, my dog, and I had the 4.0 I-6 let go at 225,000 outside of Las Vegas, Nevada on the way to take photos in Beatty and Rholite, NV. We bought the XJ used, and it was a really weird model nobody had ever seen before (rear wiper and right side rear view mirror factory delete among other oddities). We bought he XJ at 210,000 miles and I can only wonder the abuse it suffered in its prior life. We where heading up a decent incline and I looked behind in the mirror and said "wow, someone is really smoking up here" and then it hit me that we had not seen another car in the last 30 minutes. I pull over, engine running, and look under and the engine is literally vomiting oil - from everywhere. Now, I'm panicked. We are away from town, may need a tow truck, have our dog who is a co-equal member of the family to the humans and we have to get back to Las Vegas so we can tow the XJ home to North Carolina behind the motorhome. Long story story we made it back to the camper after refilling the new total-loss oil engine oil system a couple times and we towed the crippled XJ home and had the engine replaced this to much curiosity as the engine shop had never replaced a 4.0L I-6 having never had the need. That Cherokee was the family favorite and even though my dog destroyed the interior because of his demon-crazed barking/slobber fest each time he rode in it that was one of the best vehicles we ever owned. I wish I still had it. All that remains with me today is the old license plate and a head full of great memories.
Dan you said in one video the cherokee didn't come with disc breaks, no offense but is that right? The reason I say that is I recently bought a 2000 (from that little ol lady from Pasadena), except it is from Tallahassee here in florida. I know the owner was the only one who owned it, and never did any work to it,but it has front dics brakes, also this beauty has only 57,000 original miles and only paid $1300 for it. while I have you what product would you use to fix up the plastic bumpers that have turned gray? Rustoleum bed liner paint looks promising!!
Dude! 57k ?? awesome score!!! Sorry If I wasn't clear, but XJ did not come with REAR disc brakes, only Front disc and rear drums. ZJs were the first Jeeps to have rear disc brakes and they came on the same axles as XJs. That's why its very popular to do a ZJ rear disc brake conversion to the XJ. You can restore the trim like new, all you have to do is scrub the heck out of it with a scotch bright pad (do not scratch the paint!) then when its dried you have to heat it with a heat gun almost to its melting point. It will turn dark black again right before your eyes! just make sure you use a circular motion so you don't burn anything. it takes forever to do, do you'll have plenty of time to get the hang of it.. after I do the 4 bumper ends I usually peal off the door trim. lol good luck brother!

One thing I'll add to tie list is the instrument panel gauge cluster. It's just perfect! On the thinks I don't like is fuel consumption (10mi/gal). Best American made car ever with bulletproof engine!
Yes! The cluster has a perfect layout! I cant beat it up for MPGs cuz the engine was designed 50 years ago. lol
Subscribed Dan, the best XJ channel on the internet. I have a 1999 XJ Cherokee Sport. Diagnosed and fixed many things viewing your channel. Spare parts are bit expensive though, here in Middle East. Thanks to you.
Cheers
Thank you so much brother!! If you need any parts ill try to help you 💪
1.Looks nice
2. Easy to mod
3. Engine sound is orgasmic! Just straight pipe that thing!
Hell yes 🤙
‘87, 4.0, red, two door, tinted rear windows, 330k (cause I have a ‘92 Saab vert that gets the nod on sunny days).
My fave Jeep is MY Jeep.
Even after 2020, when it got rear ended, then stolen, she’s back on the road, and runs sweet.
Steal my Compass, and I won’t shed a tear!
lol! that's awesome man!
I had a 90 Limited, 94 Country and a 2000 Classic. I traded them each off at 200,000 miles. The Classic was my favorite. I kept it for 9 years.
They Both sound like amazing machines.
I have a 92 XJ with 268,000 and still going strong. I paid $550 with very minimal rust. I did a custom 5" lift with 33's and it's my work vehicle/weekend wheeler.
That's a great deal! Awesome score!
I have a 2001 XJ, and is just awesome ...
best vehicle ever made!
The blacked out look is insanely badass! I've got a light blue 97 myself with a 3in rough country lift on 31s and over 250,000 on the original motor, still pulls like a beast! Oh, and I've driven my buddy's auto, and for me, I'll stick with the manual all day every day.
Thanks Drew! 3inch and 31s is a great driving XJ.... an AX5 XJ is definitely on my list!
@@ProjectDanH I don't know much about the AX5, I have a 15 in my XJ. Even with all those miles on her not a single gear even crunches or anything. They certainly don't produce anything as durable as these old Jeeps nowadays and I'm certainly going to treasure this one as long as I can! By the way, just watched your hate vid, and I can't agree more about the drum brakes, the disc swap is accomplishable in a day in the junkyard and an afternoon in the garage and is by far the best mod I've done. I'd love to see how you do yours to retain rear ABS, cuz I lost mine :) Cheers Dan, keep up the awesome work!
@@DrewHayes4298 Thanks a Million Drew. strange how jeep gave the ZJ disk brakes but neglected the XJ. I have most of the parts already, this will be my 2nd Conversion.. but the 1st with abs. I just gotta find the time to do it! lol. I definitely appreciate your views!
Thanks brother! Im gonna put a 5 speed in the new version of Beach Jeep!
Woo Hoo!!!
dude, that sounds so awesome! I'm stoked for your build. best of luck with it! 👍
@@ProjectDanH thanks the more I mess with it the more I love it! next is finish up the 4.7 stroker in my YJ 7120 cylinder head goes in this weekend!! With both up and running I will be complete!!
@@rc9266 awesome! Who built your stroker?
Good list. Mine is a 96 daily driver (80/day). Also a camping, fishing, towing, trail-riding rig.
That's awesome Jordan! thanks for watching
Great video. As far as mileage, I have a 92 Larado 260k and the only thing that doesn't work is the wiper switch and that's fixed. Auto, air and it runs great. Oh yeah, I paid $600 for it and I wouldn't sell it for any reason. It better to be luck than good.
WOW! that's an excellent Machine! Best of luck with it!!!
Love the XJ! Good looking Jeep Dan. Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the new rig.
Thanks Hole! The day I filmed this was a crazy day. The XK ended up being fixed that same day, and later on I acquired another project Jeep for the channel!!! Stay tuned!
My first Jeep Cherokee was a 1991 Jeep Cherokee limited
It was stock
I absolutely love the part time 4by4 all-I changed was the muffler I put a thrush turbo muffler
K&n air filter
Air shocks on the back and that's about it other than routine maintenance I upgraded the spark plugs wires and little things like
I am getting ready to get a late 80s early 90s Jeep Cherokee and do it all over again it was extremely financially inexpensive because all I have to do is replace windshield the old boy that has it had a tree limb fall on the windshield
Trees scare the heck outta me.. Sounds like a great rig tho!
Nice job Dan,we got to love our XJ'S.....
You Know it brother!
I got a 1996 country XJ.
1. Green with gold flakes.
2. Leather.
3. Original CB radio.
4. Chrome grill.
5. All American.
awesome 👍
mine is a 98 and is by far my favorite year. No head issues, but has all the modern luxuries of a 97-01. I like the overhead console from the classic. I got the sport/classic body/harness so i can hook it right up to the classic harness. Upgrade to ignition coil packs and ur done.
Dont forget the HP dana 30 front.. and youll never need to worry about Cats causing you heats soak You're golden!!!
Nice thing about the XJ are they are still reasonable but one that nice will definitely be going up in value!
Agreed! IMO its all about the rust. A rust free XJ will be a great investment!
Hey, you talked about the engine without the words "bulletproof". Props to you :)
2:48 😞
I'm so sorry.
I got a running driving 2000 classic last night for 325$ I'm pumped. I had a 94 sport years ago.
score!!! Congrats bro
Great video. The XJ makes a great beach truck.
It sure does!
i have an 01 with 100,500 miles on it and its basically rust free. I just put a 4.5 rc lift on it and i love it. I plan on sealing the underside with por 15 to try and preserve it because theyre hard to find rust free and i'll probably axle swap it in the future
Thats awesome Andrew! Best of luck with it!
Just found your channel. I love it! Great content😎
Always been a huge xj fan (TJs too) havent owned a XJ for probably 10 years but I got the itch and just had to buy another one.
Good job Dan I wish I live next to you 😆
Thanks bro!
I got my first one for $600, rocker panels were rotted out and my electric was temperamental but it still goes strong and has over 200K miles on it! I’ll own that thing until the good lord takes me away!
Amen Brother! you can resurrect her little by little. Ain't nothing on an XJ that can't be replaced. 💪
Great Video! I was hoping you'd do your 5 Favorites soon. And of course I will agree with loving the 00-01 XJ's! ;)
Are those the after-market smoked marker lights? I'm thinking about putting the clear ones on mine. Love the looks of your Black Beauty!
Thanks Bug! Yes they're aftermarket smoke lenses. Got em on eBay many years ago. I can't wait to see what you guys to to yours!
Oh No! What wrong with the XK? You are dead on, Dan! You just cannot beat the XJ for looks and lengevity!.. This video made me miss mine for sure
XK drove me insane! The dealership installed a Brand New defective water pump! A Garbage Made in M*therF***ing China pump! 🤬 All better now though. 😊
Meh youve upgraded.
@@BuBBz lol... Still jeep tho

wow! thanks for the sub! you must have the most mike's on an XJ over there! lol.. any rust??
Love that they are square body, love you don’t have to do much to make them look cool. Love there so badass to drive. I love they have something go wrong they all seem to have the same thing. Easier to figure it out. I have a 99, 2000, and a 2001 one. All in good shape. Ya need some rocker work. Have a 2000 for a beater and 99 for parts. Should part with some. I gave my boy 16 the 2000. My other boy has the 99 he will be 16 next year. Yup the XJ family for sure, love your channel! Keep up the good work!
Thank you,

Thanks Richard! An XJ family is a great family! I hope my XJs will last for my girls to drive!
To stop it from clicking just take the pins off the doors that's what I did and it's so nice and smooth

99 xj classic amithist blue/ purple overland style. I love the styleing of the xjs . The affordability the 4.0 solid axles (caint find anymore on modern SUVs) the reliability

Glad you're ok Jason, vehicles can be replaced, humans cannot! Feel free to ask any XJ questions.. id be happy to help.
Paid $400 for a rust free south Texas almost mint 98 XJ that only needed a fuel pump and battery. Even came equipped with a JL audio system.
Beats my Liberty in the looks and cargo space.
great score!!! congrats Keith!
This a good car for a 16 year old like me easy to work under the engine bay and the look itself is amazing
Absolutely! Best Jeep Ever
I have a 99 xj with 306k on the dash and she still runs like a champ. This is my first jeep. But if/ when mine finally does die, I will be searching for another one.
That's interesting about making it look like a newer model. I would like to see that. I wanted to do it to my truck as well.
That would be cool!
my 94 does have the clicking sound that has got louder in the last 12 years today it has 206,000 miles, some say its the vales some say its the pistons some say cracked manifold may just wait tell it brakes before new engine
Just bought a 2001 limited with 31000 one owner miles, she got to old to drive, zero rust looked new underneath and interior perfect. 8000.00 and would buy another one tomorrow for that

Thanks man. give it a little TLC 👍
Hell around my area you can find xj’s for $500 and make it run for three years. I had two xj’s but figured I’d make the switch to the Zj since there basically the same vehicle with minor differences in between them. Bought my 1998 Jeep Zj for $750.00 and was offered $2,000 for the next week lol. Of course I didn’t sell it it’s my baby now like yours is to you. Oh it’s just about to crack 215,000 also it’s the 4.0 not the 5.2 or 5.9 limiteds just the plan Jane Laredo 4.0.

All that remains with me today is the old license plate and a head full of great memories.
wow! that's a great story. sounds like you need to find a similar XJ and make some new memories
Our 2000 XJ has 226,000 miles and going strong.
Awesome! I love to hear that!
