Awesome demonstration. Very clear and easy to follow. But the part I never understand about these kinds of tutorials is where did you come up with the numbers? How do you know to start you princess seam three inches up up the sleeve hole? Why three inches? How do you know you needed to make the waist dart for the princess seam 3/4 inch? Wouldn't it be different for everyone? How do you get those measurements? Following each step is easy enough, it's making it unique to your own body that confuses me.

      Thank you for the compliments.
      Great question!
The measurements I use are based off a size 8 block. The link to the book is below.
The 3 inches is a standard measurement in the industry. You can change that to work with your body and your design. Sometimes with the princess seam, you might want it to start higher on the armhole. You can do that! Just make that measurement more like 4 inches or whatever you choose.
The waist measurement of 3/4 inch on the dart is based off the hip to waist measurements. This is a fitted block so take your hip measurement and your waist measurement. Subtract the waist from the hip. Take that measurement and divide by 4. That measurement would be what you use for your dart intake.
      Example:
      32” Waist
      36” Hip
36-32=4. 4 divided by 4=1. So instead of the 3/4 that we used in the video, you would use 1”.
Once again you can adjust this based on your design and your measurements.
      I hope this helps!
My tutorial is based off the book by Julie Cole. Patternmaking with stretch knit fabrics.
