This is something I'm really hoping for! It's not only augmented reality, but also, a little further into the future, enhanced vision with improved focus, night vision, shading bright lights and even telephoto. There are so many possible uses such as marking aircraft in a pilot's vicinity, spotting pedestrians on dark streets and eyes-on-the-road navigation.
For the health of your corneas, either the lenses should be gas-permeable or else you shouldn't wear them for long periods of time. Given the multiple layers and the need to protect the components from the proteins and other chemicals in your tears, I doubt they could be gas-permeable. That means the contacts will be uncomfortable for many people and you probably wouldn't want to have them in your eyes for long periods.
I'm a VR enthusiast but as someone who wore contact lenses for 35 years I'll pass. I had Lasik several years ago to get rid of the need for contacts. FYI, these will probably be hard lenses as well. Good luck with that lol.

as a clutz who's cut my eye twice, wouldn't it be risky putting li-ion batteries in your eyes if they get hit with debris?
