It's crazy, when all people have to do really is just find it, but simply refuse to because they're used to being drip-fed by mainstream media. And they turn on to a series just to keep skimming it for reasons to get turned off again, at the slightest toning down of blinking lights and "fast" action. When all it is still animated pictures on the screen.
That's not really the case for me, because stuff I like such as Rideback or Toshokan Sensou, or Kemeko Deluxe will only just be discarded anyway for "turn-offs" like being too contemplative, when the anime audience simply doesn't have that dimension to them as watchers to care about such things. That's why anyone who says they "love" anime... yeah, that's the opposite of the concept of love. Just drop things the moment they start giving something against your expectations.
That's already packed in with the idea of making this special slot for japanese animation as "anime", instead of just crediting Japan as maybe they jsut make some of the best and worst stuff out there because other countries lag behind.

It is the series that touches on a pretty deep topics about humanity and life choices.
Sadly, most of the people do not stay with the story long enough for it to evolve from simple funny story about roller blades with over the top gags, to the divine philosophical phase of how the environment affects person and a meaning of choice and paths you take, being affected by your past.

Specially those soundtracks, op and ed were bangers (I have them on every device I own 😅). And if you want an AT feeling adjacent, just cruise downtown on a skateboard or roller blades during sunset with the whole musical album in the ears. Of course choose safe routes such as streets with less trafics or even 3am cruise when there is absolutly no soul around 😊 and don't forget the baggy clothes for wind sensations. It's bliss!!!

first off: thanks for the memory trip! air gear inspired in me such a love of movement itself, moving my body in a way that's fun and freeing (I love footwork in the martial arts I've practiced because of this)
second off: I started reading the manga, and I've unfortunately gotta agree that I really would've enjoyed things staying low-stakes, to me the transition to naked custom-engineering and actual literal magic was just too jarring. I've since developed a love for that kind of logic-be-damned, rule-of-cool, centered anime, but I really was enjoying watching this kids do rad tricks with motorized rollerblades. I'm kinda getting the vibe of what I wished air gear was from the first few eps of sk8: the infinity (just started), colourful characters tricking out and displaying such a clear flow-in-motion from (mostly) just good physics and athleticism.

Oh Great! was a huge inspiration to me when i was kid because of his art style. He was my favorite mangaka for years because of his style. And despite the ecchi/lewd and childish aspects of his works, he's always had a knack for dropping in interesting nuggets of wisdom and philosophy.

I grew up with air gear like u said it was one of those stage two anime I ended up watching as a kid like 5-6th grade and it captivated me I watched the whole show and went into Barnes n noble the next day to buy physical copies of the manga so I could give them to ppl to read and also the panels were sexy asf. The biggest sadness was always expecting a s2 because the soundtrack and setting carried the show more than the story. I still listen to overlooked when I go driving and I’m glad u made this video because almost no one knows much about this show . Which tbh should be considered a time piece

I went from anime to manga for all the reasons you mentioned. I loved the team battles, and I got used to the progression into dbz roller blade super powers.. but I'll be honest about one thing. The art style is phenomenal, so much so I wanted tattoos of everything in the series, but i got to a point where I didn't have a clue what I was looking at on each page.
Towards the later chapters, I had no idea wtf was going on, it was just chaos, but it was beautiful.
I've returned for a second run attempt. Last time i finished just with pure perseverance. Waiting for each chapter and having no clue what was happening was hard. This time I'm gonna try and enjoy it more.
    Great video.

I know I’m late, but before I stepped on board properly, I rollerbladed a lot. I got pretty damn good at it as a kid, and when I was pushing twenty five miles an hour down country roads and bursting into my small town as fast as the cars rolling down the road…yeah, that felt like freedom to me too. I’m gonna be picking up a pair of skates again, and I just got done rewatching air gear and discovering the OVA’s. Thank you for spreading the word g.
As a mature rider now, I’m gonna delve into the more complicated aspects of inline. Who knows, maybe I’ll learn to fly.
