Hey man nice case there i got a exp gdc beast as well and was looking to build a custom case for it, any ideas of the dimensions of the case you built?
subbed back! always a pleasure to be recognized by fellow thinkpad lover. unfortunately i had to shelved my x230 because broken lcd. I am planning to run my greasy hand all over it again and turn it into handheld pc. cheers
nice! this is a really neat idea. i wish there was a nice way to implement this so that you could switch it with just a button or something. Like i'm imagining you have a all in one sff pc , with cpu and gpu and everything, and then you could just run a usb c cable to a laptop, power on just the gpu and use it as a egpu...
to be honest this only works with older machines. for newer laptop or sff pc, simply just use thunderbolt based egpu since it is most likely newer model has tb3 port or higher.
Just the video I needed my ssf system is so small I can only fit a single slot gt1030 even thou I wanted something a little stronger like the gtx 1650 , great video man , and great case epgu case
Hello, im new to pcs and what not and i wanted to ask if i had a i5 6500 sff optiplex 7040, if i used a strong gpu will it bottleneck ? or will it run fine ?
if you play at 4k using rtx 3090 or rx 6950 xt, i'm sure it will bottleneck. but logically, if you can afford any strong gpus right now at scalped price, why not to just upgrade all your machine instead of using sff pc.
if you dont want to bother doing some diy shown in the video, just add newest lp gpus (rx 6400 or gtx 1650 lp) and you will be golden. but i dont recommend buying those at current price since both of them are just bad price/performance cards rn.
btw I have some questions: since im only gonna connect the GPU to my pc ill only need: GPU, pcie riser and power supply right ? and also for the power supply the wattage that the GPU take is about 180w - 230w so does that mean I can just buy a 310w PSU or do I need a stronger one like the one you used for your build?
in theory all gpu can be used as long as you powered it through dedicated psu with sufficient power. one very important thing is you need to use jumper cable to connect green cable to the black one (ground) on 20+4 ATX. i recently upgraded the psu to 750W and gpu to gtx 1660 super (from gtx 1050 3g) and it works very stable since i mostly use this pc for 10+ hours render in iray.
i wasn't upgrading the PSU from sff pc but the dedicated PSU for powering external GPU that i placed inside eGPU case. as you might already know, PSU from sff PC are different in size than normal one so i feared that i can't help find what you're looking for. have u considered to use low profile GPU instead (e.g. GTX 1650 LP) so u don't need to upgrade ur sff PC's PSU?

Nice done bro
X230 + eGPU + homemade case = me subbed

@Aircrate DIY aw thanks!
Handheld pc sounds like a great idea 💡 😀

glad you liked it. please don't hesitant to ask some questions if you decided to build similar setup.
can you send a link what psu you used on the dell sff PC I'm trying to upgrade my psu on the dell 7010 sff
Same problem with me when I start my egpu with external display
I have this EXP GDC EGPU dock but where can i find the connector for thunderbolt 4 enabled 11 gen laptops?
exp gdc only have expresscard, mini pcie and ngff cable but does not support thunderbolt afaik

@@aircrate wow i didnt mean super gpus just relatively stong ones.. will it work just fine ?

@@aircrate aight thanks
Hi man its me again I managed to get a HP 400 G4 MT and im planning to do the same buid that you did with an rx 580, wish me luck

you probably want to use 450w psu for safe measure. also u need 24 atx psu jumper (its around 1-2 bucks).
@@aircrate oh and 1 more question, what material can you suggest for making my psu and gpu case
fan better off facing out so you don't have all the heat being drawn out just the power supply
do you think a rx 550 4gb work with a sff pc with a pci-e extension cable?
in theory all gpu can be used as long as you powered it through dedicated psu with sufficient power. one very important thing is you need to use jumper cable to connect green cable to the black one (ground) on 20+4 ATX. i recently upgraded the psu to 750W and gpu to gtx 1660 super (from gtx 1050 3g) and it works very stable since i mostly use this pc for 10+ hours render in iray.

the 750w psu you said earlier

@@aircrate ohhh I see now
1050 3gb???
yes. but it can use any gpu as long as the psu has sufficient power
I left mine clear so you can see all the parts
