Another LAYLA ALBUM QUESTION for Bobby:
Who is playing tabla on "Bell Bottom Blues" and on "I Am Yours"?
Is that Jim Gordon or an uncredited guest tabla player?
I've never seen or heard Jim being credited with tabla anywhere else, and while it isn't master level tabla technique, whomever it is is displaying legitimate tabla skill - like they actually studied and practiced the instrument for at least a little while.... unlike many western drummers who just hit them like bongos or something.
Also, Carl Radle is credited with 'percussion' on the Layla album. Do you remember what he may have played?
Thank you in advance for any insights!!
Love, love, love all of your video discussions!
(PS - And I apologize if this question should be posted or submitted somewhere else. If so I don't know where other than randomly on a recent video.)

About your friend Bob (sorry, couldn't catch his last name), it's funny but my dad was in Vietnam, maybe a little earlier than your friend (he was there 18 months,1964-65), and was assigned to a South Vietnamese Ranger battalion as an instructor to teach the Vietnamese Rangers how to call in airstrikes, but he really did all the work. It's true, that was a dangerous job because they were at the point, looking to attract enemy fire to get their location, so that the pilots could drop their bombs on target. Luckily he made it home without a scratch after doing two tours there.

What young men went through there. And just as you said, so for many who made it home the suffering continued all their lives.
    💔
Tony Sheridan (you guys may know him?) got a band together to play for the American soldiers in Vietnam. Not the usual way, being flown in for one show and right back out. (Which is fine, too, of course.) But Tony wanted to bring upbuilding music and...love, really, to the boys in the jungles. Many of them were feeling unsupported. Tony and the band lived with them for months. They were fired upon plenty, one bandmate got killed.
Tony was reported dead back in England, but he survived---with nightmares, loud sounds setting off panic, drug issues. (He said he'd buy Marlboro cigarettes in Saigon packaged with the plastic just like new, but they were actually from China and spiked, so kids making it back to the US would be addicted.) The US army made him an honorary captain.
I got to know Tony just a little. But almost all of this I learned from a video of Tony's reunion with one of the band. His song "Indochina" is here on youTube, it's beautiful. He was fiercely private, and more than little volatile, and people (Beatles fanatics, I think!) have written all kinds of baloney online about him. He was really a very sweet guy.
    ❤️
Thanks so very much Bobby and Coco for these conversations. And you have to know that your singing and playing is on another level of expressive. It helps. With everything.

yes, you are right, we must thank All the veterans that went and fought to save all of our freedoms. My cousins son is 49 years old did 4 tours over there in the middle east since 1994 and just two weeks ago just got promoted, dig this to a General of the U.S. army at Fort Hood, there in Texas. Very impressive a General in the Family. Dang I haven't seen him since 1987 but still he is family however distant it may be. He did a great job for our nation to be promoted to a General. WOWEE. I WAS SO SCARD BACK IN 1974 WHEN TURNING 18 AFRAID till they finally stopped the draft. I was so scared I figured gosh guess I will have to go to Canada I figured, I couldn't even climb the ropes in Gym class, pretty weak if they were going to have to count on me to conquer the enemy we are in big trouble. all I wanted to do back then was play my guitar a nd become the BEST I could be.. seemed that was all I could do really well compared to the more macho fellas out there so to speak. The bigger burly football guys etc.. anyway my hats are off to all the men and women that have served and are still serving this country, my dad too was in world war II . all my uncles as well like yours were too I am sure although I am guessing. We where I live also have Luke Air Force Base out here fairly close or near my home oh maybe 10 or 12 miles or so away, so, Phx. is very military aware I think, so that is a good thing,, be safe & stay Healthy guys. and enjoy.... great story....... ........ Kick it up to full auto and watch them cut down row after row. There's nothing like the smell of napalm and burning flesh to stimulate your senses. 500 hundred pound bombs going off all around, they fell like you got kicked in the gut by a mule. I did two tours with the 173d airborne brigade. Want to see a day in the life, RUclips "C" company 2nd battalion 173d airborne. I went to Vietnam at 17, I turned 18 in a fire fight in a open rice field nowhere to hide so I ran and down behind a berm between paddies about 18 inches high. I'll never forget that birthday ever.

I'm a retired veteran. I remember how those guys coming home from Vietnam got treated by many of their peers who opposed the war. It was nice to hear someone such as yourself speak respectfully of those who served. War takes a heavy toll on those who participate in it, a good portion of which occurs after they come back home. We need to be conscious of that today. The generation of career service members who came up behind me have spent their entire careers fighting a prolonged war, the longest war in our 2 1/2 century existence as a nation. Far too many of them now feel alienated from our society. This generation of vets also needs the kind of compassionate perspective that you expressed in your song. Thanks for writing that song when you did, and thanks for the love you wrote, and breathed into it. ✌❤

A question just popped in my head and forgive me if it's been asked, my memory isn't always what used to be. Pot holes, you know what I mean, haha!
I was wondering if Bobby had any memories or stories about the making of the movie Vanishing Point, and if he could shed light on how DandB wound up in it?

Another great video. 👍 Bobby, your singing voice is as strong now, if not even stronger, as it was 50 years ago. What's that dog's name?

George Eubanks, may he rest in peace, was in Nam and friend of yours who introduced me to you. Nam seemed make George a troubled soul. Just another Millington boy.

So cool. Thanks. Can you please ask Bobby about Badge? In the fall of 1969 when I was living in Martin, TN that song helped me. I figured Bobby would know the story. Peace y'all.

Thought I'd give you the little insight I have about "Badge". George Harrison wrote the lyrics, got stuck after the line "I told you not to wander 'round in the dark" & Ringo came up w/ "I told you 'bout the swans that they live in the park". Eric Clapton saw George's handwritten lyrics upside down while sitting across from him & where George had written "Bridge" at a point in the song he said "what's that, Badge?". Clapton I believe wrote most of the music & George played rhythm guitar on it credited as "L'Angelo Mysterioso" on the original Cream Goodbye album sleeve so the record company wouldn't have to pay him royalties! Common practice at the time to disguise performers in such fashion. Hope this gives you a little insight to the songs' origins. Mark.

Oh I got the new TTB Layla Revisited today. I've only had time to listen to a few songs so far.
Its weird hearing Derek and his slide. ABB was a jam band too, and its hard not to hear it in some of the songs.
Kind of bitter sweet when I remember you talking about Duane getting a lot of the recognition. I do like Trey Anastasio's voice. Always love Susan's voice. :)

Just an aside from your discussion Bobby. I have just listened to the Layla album performed by The Tedeschi Trucks Band. They have done you proud!
